Welcome In this Issue 1. Affordable Private Dental

Hello and welcome to the Winter edition of PULSE.

2. Move better with our physiotherapy Groups

Exploring this edition of the Pulse newsletter, you’ll find information on our affordable private dental services, our physiotherapy groups, the Victorian Carers alliance and much more! It has been an exciting few months at DPV Health. In April, we hosted the Excellent Care Symposium, which was a fantastic showcase of our ongoing commitment to high quality care, clinical governance, and evaluation. This year’s theme, “The Right Way – Measure What Matters,” featured keynote speaker Louise McKinlay, CEO of Safer Care Victoria. Louise delivered a compelling presentation on Safer Care Victoria’s approach to clinical governance, data, and evaluation. As we head into the colder months, I would also like to encourage everyone to prepare for the flu season by booking a flu vaccination. This simple step can help protect you, your family, and the community throughout winter. Wishing you happiness and good health. Don Tidbury CEO, DPV Health

How Food Can Help Your Mood WELCOME Nutrition & Dietetics Many people know that food affects the body, but it also affects the mind. What you eat can play a role in how you feel day to day.

Food and your brain Your brain needs a steady supply of nutrients to work well. Just like a car needs the right fuel, your brain needs the right foods. Foods high in processed foods (like chips, sugary drinks, and takeaway) are linked with higher rates of low mood and tiredness. Instead, including more whole foods can support better mental health.

What foods help? Eating regularly and choosing balanced meals can make a difference. Helpful foods include: Vegetables and fruits Whole grains (like oats, brown rice, wholemeal bread) Protein foods (like eggs, beans, lentils, fish, chicken) Healthy fats (like nuts, seeds, olive oil) These foods provide vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats that support brain function.

How Food Can Help Your Mood WELCOME Nutrition & Dietetics What does the research say? A well-known Australian study called the SMILES Trial looked at people with depression. One group improved their eating with support from a dietitian. Another group received social support. After 12 weeks, the group who improved their eating habits had much bigger improvements in their mood. About 1 in 3 people in the healthy eating group no longer met the criteria for depression, compared to fewer people in the other group.

Small changes can help You don’t need a perfect diet to see benefits. Start small: Add one extra vegetable to your meals Swap sugary drinks for water Include protein at each meal Try cooking at home more often

The bottom line: Food is not a replacement for medical care, but it is a powerful tool. Eating a variety of whole foods each day can support both your physical and mental health and help you feel better over time. Pulse Newsletter | Winter 26

WELCOME Victorian Carers Alliance Carers Victoria & DPV Health Launch Victorian Carers Alliance April marked the launch of the Victorian Carers Alliance, a shared commitment between DPV Health and Carers Victoria to ensure carers are recognised earlier, supported better, and connected to the services they need. This alliance brings together community health and specialist carer expertise, strengthening support for people who often step into caring roles quietly and without formal support. Through initiatives like the Step into Caring Program (developed by Carers Vic and DPV Health), carers gain early access to practical information, confidence building tools, and connections that protect their own health and wellbeing alongside the people they care for. We were honoured to launch the alliance alongside Board and CEO representation from both organisations, and most importantly, the carers who have taken part in the Step into Caring program, whose lived experience continues to shape better, more responsive systems of care. At its heart, the Victorian Carers Alliance reflects a simple truth: when organisations work together, carers don’t have to navigate their journey alone.

If you are a carer in need of support, visit Carers Victoria to access tailored advice, resources, and guidance.
