FOIL PAINTING Exploring paint on an aluminium foil is very helpful for the children in terms of the sensory experience, fine motor skills as well as collaborative art for autistic learner. Through experiencing the unique texture which is smooth and flexible, children can also develop their motor skills. The things required for this activity includes a roll of kitchen foil, some paint, and either brushes or hands to create some art. Painting on foil is an interesting activity as it is completely different from the regular painting. Colors pop off the background while the learner enjoys mixing colors and experimenting with new materials.
“A YOUNG CRAFTSMAN” “Designing and Custom Colours” One of our student from IT/CS department of SEN is a fresher for Computer subject and its worth mentioning that he is picking up the concepts of Computer very well. He is also able to handle the mouse p2roperly but needs a little assistance once in a while. During our sessions with him, we came across his tremendous interest in cars and he can be looked upon like an example of the living encyclopedia of cars. Using his strength as a tool we made his Computer skills to develop further. The student is only 7 years old and we designed his sessions in a way so that he can grab more and more information about cars. As the student is working on designing concepts, he was asked to design a few logos of famous car brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz GLc, So, his training for designing was started in Microsoft Paint itself. By designing his sessions in such a way we were able to give him designing concepts and using colour combination concepts. It is so amazing to see that the student is able to design the exact same logo/badges of the mentioned brands of some famous cars. The student is able to design the logos in such a perfect manner that he has earned a name for himself that he is “Mr. Perfect” because he is representing pinpoint accuracy even in using different colour combinations.
FRACTION WITH PIZZA This activity uses visual representation to demonstrate the tangible meaning of fractions. The activity involved dividing a pizza into 4 slices of the same size and it helped the student understand what a fraction is and how it is a part of a whole unit. The student was taught what one half, one third and one fourth or a quarter is. This activity helped the student understand the difference between the whole and the fraction. The activity turned to be very fruitful as the student understood the whole concept fully.
PLASTIC STICKS The objective of this activity was to improve the fine motor skills and eye hand coordination of the student. Fine motor involves the strengthening of the smaller muscles to perform daily activities properly. The activity was simple and interesting for the student. The student was supposed to take out the plastic sticks of broom and place them one by one on the table and then fix it on the small holes of broom. Student was able to do this activity very nicely. The student got very excited while placing the sticks into the holes. This activity is helpful in increasing the attention span of the child. This activity helps in developing the pincer grasp of the child as well.
DIFFERENTIATION OF DIFFERENT FOOD ITEMS ON THE BASIS OF THEIR SHELF LIFE:
Objective: •
To make the student familiar with the
different food items on the basis of th e shelf life. •
The student will be able to categorize
the food items i.e; Perishable food, Semiperishable and Non-perishable food. •
The student will be able to learn about
the storage process of different food items. The student was able to understand the concept through concrete methods. While performing the activity, the student was given different food items such as tea, vegetables, fruits, spices, salt, sugar, polythene and small chart paper. Firstly, the student was supposed to understand the terms Perishable, Semi-perishable and non-perishable food items. After that, the student was asked to categorize the different food items on the basis of their shelf life. The student himself prepared a chart showing different food items. The student carefully labeled the different food items on his own. This activity helped the student differentiate the food items and their storage processes.
FIBER SCRAP BOX
The objective of this activity was to develop the fine motor skills (pincer grasp) of the student. Pincer grasp involves the use of the thumb and the index finger to pick up small objects. Fine motor skill efficiency significantly influences the quality of the task outcome as well as the speed of the task performance. Fine motor skills are essential for performing everyday skills like fastening, writing, cutting, colorings, drawing as well as the academic skills. Without the ability to complete these everyday tasks, the child’s self esteem can suffer, their academic performance degrades and their play options become limited. It becomes hard for them to live an independent life as they are unable to accomplish the tasks such as getting dressed and feeding themselves. Fiber scrap box is an interesting activity as it helps the student practice the fine motor exercises. The scrap box consists of different colored fiber strips. Student was asked to pull the fiber strips using his thumb and index finger from tissue box one by one. After pulling the strips out of the box, the student also tried to feel the texture of the fiber and asked many questions related to it. It was an interactive session as the student enjoyed pulling the strips out from the box. The fiber scrap box activity is a great way of developing the pincer grasp.
VISIT TO PARIHASPORA “Learning is an ongoing process and all the experiences, result in one or the other form of learning�. The students of SEN Department were taken to a trip to the Monument and archeological site situated at Parihaspora on Tuesday, 28th August 2018 at 10:30 am. Students were all set to have friends and
a fantastic day –out with their teachers. The
students were
very excited and
enjoyed the
journey all
through
and it took
about 3
hrs. to
reach
the site.
The
students
were
given an opportunity
to explore
the things on
their own. After and getting to know historical monuments, they
taking a round about different had a lot of fun exploring
different monuments and stones. The children were very excited and asked different questions related to the place. The trip provided an enlightening opportunity to the students, enabling them to enhance their thinking skills and increasing their knowledge. Both the students and the teachers were magnetized by the beauty of monuments. The visit enabled the students to learn, observe and apply their lessons in the real world. It also motivated the students to take care of their environment and to maintain cleanliness around them. In an all, it was an enlightening and a learning experience for the students.
LEAF STAMPING The objective of this activity was to develop the fine motor skills of the child in addition to the awareness about the autumn season. The Leaf Stamping activity was done to help the students develop the knowledge about the autumn season by using leaves and colors as the core objects. In this activity, the dried leaves were first painted by the student and the same was traced on the blank sheet of paper. Different impressions of leaves were created by using different types of leaves and colors.
GLUE STICK TRAY The objective of this activity was to developed the fine motor skill (palmer grasp) and to improve the eye hand coordination of the child. The activity involved the use of glue sticks and its tray. The students showed great interest in doing the activity. The student was asked to pick up the empty glue sticks one by one from the table and place them in the tray kept on the other side of the table. This activity is beneficial for the students who are having issues with fine motor skills and eye hand coordination.
BATHROOM ARTICLES The objective of the activity was to identify and name the different bathroom articles that are used in our daily routine. The facilitator introduced the topic by showing the student real bathroom articles followed by flash cards of washroom articles that are used in our daily living. Later the learner was provided with the chart paper and the different washroom articles that were already drawn on glare paper. The student then picked up the different articles and pasted them on a chart and also named them. The aim of the activity was that the student should be able to name 5 different washroom articles used in our day to day life.
BIRD CRAFT
The main objectives of the bird craft activity were: To inculcate eye hand coordination with the procedure done to develop sitting tolerance and attention span. The activity helped the student to visualize the picture. Moreover, the activity was used to develop tripod, pincer and scissors grip using different objects. The activity was performed by one of our functional kid to develop his different areas and to use his hands in different forms and facilitate to develop his muscle tone with complete concentration and attention.
PASTA THREADING
The objective of this activity was to develop the fine motor skill. The fine motor skill involves the development of the smaller muscles in the hand. It was beneficial cum fun activity in which the children develop fine motor in a fun way. The activity involves the use of Pasta, straws and thermocol. In the activity, the student poke straws onto the thermacol and thread the pasta onto each straw. By threading colourful pasta onto the straw, the child was very keen to thread more and more pasta. By developing these muscles at a young age; children will be able to do everyday tasks, such as writing, drawing, cutting with scissors and button fastening. The activity that strengths the fine motor skill in an interactive and fun way is called 'Pasta Threading activity'
WRITING STORY Trying to write a short story is a perfect place to begin your writing because it reveals many of the obstacles, dilemmas and questions while writing or when creating fiction of any length. The objective of the activity was to make the child think and create stories out of his imagination. Due to this activity, the child is brainstormed to write his ideas and create stories. This kind of activity helps the student to dream and incredibly learn the essential techniques for developing scenes and creating intense writing experience. The child is able to frame plot, character sketches and ending for the story. In this activity, the student was supposed to recapitulate a scene from his personal life that he cherished in his past. The student was asked to put down his imagination on a piece of paper in the form of drawing. After drawing the picture, the student labelled the parts and wrote a story using the clues. This activity enhanced the imagination and the creative writing skills of the child.
