SQUARE BOX When a triangle has a right angle (90°) and squares are made on each of the three sides, then the biggest square has the exact same area as the other two squares put together! [We can show the Pythagorean Theorem is true for these values.] In this activity, the student and the teacher used square boxes to represent 25, 16 and 9? [Use Squares with dimensions 3 x 3, 4 x 4, and 5 x 5.] Using the squares, guide students in creating two squares with side lengths 3 and 4 units. Show students how to place the edges of the two squares together to form a right triangle with side lengths of 3 and 4 units Line up additional squares along the hypotenuse of the triangle you formed. How many squares did you use? [5 squares] Use more squares to form a square along the hypotenuse. What is the area of the square you formed? [25 units]. ALPHABET HUNT:
If we will ask a child if they want to practice the alphabet, we might likely get snubbed but if we will ask them to play letter detective, we might hook ourselves. This game helps kids practice their letter, test out their vocabulary knowledge and get some writing under their belts at the same time. What we only need is a handful of flash cards having pictures starting with the first letter of the alphabet. Have the child use the marker to write all the letters of the alphabet in a column running down the left side of the large piece of paper, cardboard or poster board. (Just one letter per line). Once the child has written all the letter, it’s time for him to find them! Give the child a detective box and ask him to hunt for a picture of a suspect that begins with each of the letters (an “Apple” would work for “A”, a “Ball” would fulfill “B”. As the child finds them, he should write the suspect next to its appropriate letter on the chart. If the child would like, he can paste the picture next to the name. The game continues until there is something for each letter of the alphabet.
TRANSPORTATION IN PLANTS
This month an activity of watering the wilted plant was done and the student noticed how the plant’s stem and leaves straightened up in only a couple of hours. Later on, a model was developed
to
recapitulate
the
process
of
transportation in plants. In this activity, the pathways of water and food transportation were made using clay wherein purple color represented Xylem and orange represented Phloem. From this model, the child learnt about the process of transportation and importance of water for plants. FLOWER PATTERN
Objective: To enhance creativity of the student and allow him to be independent. The activity was done with a Hearing Impaired child, so most of the interaction took place through sign language. The activity proved to be a fun activity and student enjoyed thoroughly. The activity started by folding the colored sheets of paper into squares. First the scissors were used by the teacher to show the student as to how he has to cut the circles from the same.

After that, a small line was drawn from the middle to form the pattern of the flower. All the circles were later glued to a bigger circle in the shape of a flower. After being taught by the teacher, the student made two-three flowers with different patterns and that too independently.
PLAYING WITH SIMILEY’S
Playing with smiley’s is an activity used to build the social and emotional intelligence (SEI) among the students. The activity gives the child a basic way to express and to recognize his/her own feelings, showing concern and empathy towards the other people and building or maintaining the positive relationships. Procedure: The teacher started the activity by making some emoticons on a chart paper i.e. emoticons of different emotions e.g. crying, happy, sad, cold etc. The teacher showed these emoticons to the child and asked him to detail her about the occasions as to when they feel happy or when they feel any other selected emotion. The student was supposed to talk about the selected emotion and act like that so that the student would be able to understand the body language better.
AWARENESS ABOUT EID This post Eid activity was done with the students of Vocational training unit to make them understand the importance and purpose of celebrating Eid and all the rituals related to it. The children were given the sheets of paper which had the picture of the sheep on it and the children had to cut out the outline of the same since Eid-ulZuha is
known for the sacrifice of
certain animals including sheep. This activity enhanced various domains which include cutting and pasting skills, fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, visual motor integration and teamwork. EXPLORING THE BOX The objective of this activity was to develop the tango receptors in the child and to make him aware about the different types of textures, as a Pre-Braille skill. The activity Explore The Box was done with one of the students of VI unit. The student was introduced to different textures using

box was filled with different items having different textures and a little hole was made on the top of the box and every week the size of the hole was deceased in order to increase the complexity and restrict the movement of hand of the child. The student was instructed to put his hand inside the box and take out the asked item from the box by feeling the texture and shape of the item using his thigmo receptors.
Concept of RGB Colours & Microsoft Paint layout Objectives: To get the concept of RGB colours. To get the concept of how to use colour box, brushes and drawing area. In order to teach the concept of RGB colours which is the basic
primary
colour scheme known as (Red, Blue and Green), this month IT/CS department decided to do an activity related to RGB colours. This activity was done with the student to give him the concept of RGB colours which represents the colours to be used on a computer display. Red, green, and blue can be combined in various proportions to obtain any colour in the visible spectrum, after said that the student was given poster colour box to paint the same colours on the used paper with the help of his brush, so that he can related colours in computer with the paper colours.
Procedure: A used paper, brush and poster colour box containing was used by the teacher to demonstrate the RBG colours, brushes and drawing area of Microsoft Paint. In this activity, colour box is used to represent colours available in MS Paint, brush is used
to represent the brushes available in MS Paint and the paper
represents the drawing area of the Microsoft Paint.
Camping and trekking to Gulmarg Objectives of the visit:
To engage the children in the activities that they find both enjoyable and meaningful. To give them an opportunity to learn and develop the skills like trekking, dancing etc. To provide an even platform for all the children to explore and express their creativity in any form. To educate and create awareness among them about various things like environment, nutrition etc.
The camp kicked off on the 22nd of September 2018 at 7:30 am and ended on 23rdSeptember 2018. Intra-day duration was from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm. All the children boarded the bus in the school premises carrying their necessary commodities along in their bags. The children enjoyed the travel to Gulmarg and sang songs throughout the travel. As soon as, we reached the destination, the staff at IISM welcomed us with open arms. Both the teachers and the students were allotted the rooms. Five students were accommodated in a single room. After sometime, all the students enjoyed a healthy breakfast. Mr.Tajander accompanied the teachers and the students for trekking to Khilanmarg. Children started walking up the hill enthusiastically and were successful to reach the destination. In the evening, children had a blast playing the musical chairs in an open area. Next was the camp fire along with a lot of loud music and dancing. On the next day, the weather was a little cloudy but pleasant. Children packed their bags and we were off to Kanchenjunga Museum. A lot of information spread into the air about the first army persons and personnel who achieved the taste of reaching to the heights of Mt. Kanchenjunga. Children were shown all the equipments used for carrying out mountaineering and rescue tasks. At last we went to Bhuta Pathri, a place close to nature with beautiful sceneries. Children enjoyed the cold weather and water of the place. Children were also shown the “Gujjar Huts”, their livelihood and ways of living life in extreme weather scenarios. It was overall a terrific experience

Miss Shaista works with the Vocational unit of S.E.N. She is very humble, dedicated and loving teacher. The biggest challenge for any teacher is capturing each student’s attention and conveying ideas effectively enough to create a lasting impression. As a teacher, to tackle this challenge effectively, the teacher should implement innovative ideas that make the classroom experience much more interesting and loveable for students. A classroom environment should be well decorated, funloving and engaging that will help to stimulate a student’s mind and will help the student to think and learn better. Such creative and stimulating environment will help them to explore and will encourage them to learn about the subject.
