Spring drew on... And a greenness grew over those brown beds, Which, freshening daily, Suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, And left each morning brighter traces of her steps.” Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Campus Roundup... Finally, we all are back to school! A year spent within the restrictions of our homes, with an unknown enemy hovering over us, seems to have come to an end! But has it really? Covid has left an indelible impression on the minds of millions across the world. The best way to counter the prevailing depression was to keep the mind ticking. Every moment had to be infused with innovative creativity. Delhi Public School decided this therapy would work for us and how it worked! We all started moving towards the new normal, online classes. Initially what seemed di cult became do-able and then easy. The aim was not simply to teach the children but to do the job with excellence. Presentations, live lectures and all kinds of resource came out in no time. We were actually surprised at our own selves as to how much we could create. The YouTube channels were inundated with resources from all the faculties. The pandemic had its positives, we got a lot of time to introspect on the lives we were leading. It suddenly dawned on us , how blessed a life we had and how ungrateful and oblivious we have been. The connectivity remained a spoiler, casting a wet blanket on much of the e ort. It was a dream to have the students in the class and at last that dream has come true. It is not just the adults but the children have also gone through harrowing experiences. Many faced the grief of losing their loved ones, a few were victims themselves. Most of them saw their dreams crashing. The idea of being a part of the reputed International College campuses had to be paused, left to hibernate or simply be forgotten. But, now there seems hope. Life is stirring once again not only in our gardens with the beautiful lines of narcissus smiling, filling the chilled breeze with ethereal fragrance, but suddenly the laughter of the children can be heard, not as flashbacks in our minds but in reality. Standing face to face with the students sitting in the class, keeping the protocol in mind, a mask on the face and distance of a few feet, seems rather unusual. I can see the alert eyes spelling disbelief. We seem like genies out of the bottles, slowly the familiar voice formulating into a tangible whole. The board practical exams have begun. Speaking seems to be an arduous task for many. Sentences are hyphened with hum...er...I..I..just reflecting the ruthless impact of the lockdown. Many casual conversations seem to be bordering near hysteria. Students are overwhelmed at confronting the familiar friendly faces. We can only be optimistic and thank the Almighty for this new beginning. I would like to conclude with this beautiful verse written by Robert Browning... The year's at the spring And day's at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hillside's dew pearled, The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn: God's in His heaven All's right with the world! A year so bleak normalcy perhaps a break away I look at the masked me amazed at how I’ve grown yet, saved so much of what I’ve been, eyes glisten on paths I knew not existed the wonder of strength in the midst of woe I draw in a breath lest sight I lose little things I lock in embrace, hope is what keeps me warm we’ll do better I tell my heart it isn’t a bad world we’ll make it beautiful, and in the dark a glimmer of light a wholesome smile perhaps I surprise myself I unlock The locked year. - Umer Farooq There was a pulse in the air buoyant the sunrise afloat with promise, perhaps he didn’t know what it entailed or perhaps in the shu e of strangers the day had yet to reveal its glory, He wondered if life happens before you comprehend it, his heart throbbed breath by breath He’d find his purpose find where he’s heading. - Umer Farooq DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL SRINAGAR - Newsletter 2021 - Page 03
