ACTIVITY: Fibre Identification through burning Test The objective of the activity:  Identification of fabrics by visual inspection as well as by flammability test. In this activity, the student was made to recognize the composition of fabrics by the burning test. The student was instructed by the teacher to move the sample of fibre or yarn of fabric towards a small flame and to observe the reaction of heat on the fabric and to determine its burning rate and characteristics. The student was made to note down the burning odour and the characteristics of the ash such as amount, form, hardness and colour after careful examination, so that they can get insight about the fabrics and about its various composition. Prior to this activity, the student was provided with different fabrics, candle, tweezers and match-stick. They did the activity under supervision. However before this activity, the student was detailed about safety and precautions; which was to be kept in mind while performing the activity. Further properties and uses of each domain were explained to the student. The best part of the activity was that the child was able to frame the observation chart (types of fabric, reaction to flame, burning behaviour, odour flame) on his own. This activity allows student to share their understanding of difference between natural and man-made fibres.
Activity: Fish activity The objectives of the activity were: To introduce the concept of masculine and feminine gender. To be able to differentiate among the gender. To frame sentences using the words. The activity was started by drawing an outline of a fish on a piece of chart paper. The student was asked to cut the outline in the shape of a fish. After this, the list of noun (Masculine and feminine) was given to the child and was asked to sort the same and write the name of “masculine” and “feminine” on the flash cards (shaped as the scales of the fish). This was followed by pasting the flash cards on the fish. Later, the child was asked to frame short sentences using the words .This activity not only helped the child in understanding the concept of masculine and feminine but also helped him in improving the writing skills. Activity: Give me correct question Objectives of the activity: Concept of addition. Encourage problem solving ability of the student.
To develop math skills. To develop fine motor skills (tripod grip). In this activity the student was supposed to give “Question” of the “Answer” which was written on the sticky notes prepared by the teacher prior to the activity. The student on going through the answers written on cloud shaped charts, was instructed by teacher to manipulate question and solve the problem by using blocks and the mathematical operation “Addition” on those questions given on the sticky notes. In the end, the student took the sticky note with the question written and pasted it on the respective answer. The student enjoyed the activity and at the same time his problem solving ability was refined. Activity: Designing and Custom Colours Objective of the activity: To improve design and colour concepts One of our student from IT/CS department of LRC is a fresher for Computer subject and its worth mentioning that he is picking up the concepts of Computer very well. He is also able to handle the mouse properly but needs a little assistance once in a while.
During our sessions with him, we came across his tremendous interest in cars and he can be looked upon like an ocean of knowledge. Using his strength as a tool we made his Computer skills to develop further. The student is only 8 years old and we designed his sessions in a way so that he can grab more and more information about design of automobiles. As the student is working on designing concepts, he was asked to design the outline of the school bus in Microsoft Paint and a few logos of famous car brands such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz GLc, So, his training for designing was started in Microsoft Paint itself. By designing his sessions in such a way we were able to give him designing concepts and using colour combination concepts. It is so amazing to see that the student is able to design the exact same replica of force school bus. The student is also able to design the logos in such a perfect manner that he has earned a name for himself that he is “Mr. Perfect” because he is representing pinpoint accuracy even in using different colour combinations.
Activity: Hand print Father’s day card Objectives of the activity: To introduce father’s day
To improve creative skills This creative hand print father’s day card is perfect for improving the creativity of the students; a great fun activity which can be performed by the students by their own. This hand print keepsake craft is perfect for framing or turning into a card’ for memories and a simple gift idea that fathers can treasure for years to come. Hand print craft is the best way for developing their skills of Independence in things that they are able to do themselves and an excellent way for children to be creative and artistic. Students had a lot of fun while doing the activity and they were very excited for making a father’s day card for their fathers. Firstly teacher wrote a father’s day quote on the craft paper and then the students paste the craft sun on a side of the paper. The students then paint their hands with yellow craft colour and press their hands around the craft sun. The exiting part of the activity was when they paste the moustache on the craft sun but before pasting the moustache they were pretending to be the daddy by sticking the moustache on face. The activity foster creativity because they help children to see the everyday things in a new light. Activity: Numbers in expanded form. Objective of the activity: To teach students the concept of expanding numbers as per the correct usage of their place value.
The teacher began the activity by giving any random Mann card number and asked the student to read it. After reading, the student had to begin to expand the number by breaking it down into the numbers as per their place values by using small number chips and signs (+ / =). Number chips including thin chip cards for zeros and signs are all colour coded, so that student gets to the usage of expanding numbers in a pattern and that too with good speed. After one Mann card of number is expanded, the same steps are followed for 5-6 cards so that student consolidates the concept of expanding numbers on the worksheet given at the end. Harwan Garden Trip Objective: The objective of the outing was to give them concept of nature and let them explore it. As the child learns better with what they touch, feel and observe. The outing proved to be beneficial. On Thursday, 20th June 2019 Early Intervention Group and Autism Group went for an outing to Harwan garden (15 Kms away from Srinagar) along with the parents. Festivals, apart from being traditions, are a great way to renew and refresh ourselves. Festivals infuse refreshing air in our life. We meet our old acquaintances, friends, relatives whom we haven’t met for months/ years. Eid-al- Fitr, also known as just Eid, is a Muslim festival which marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting. Celebrations continue for one, two or three days, and people wish each other Eid Mubarak. Eid-al- Fitr means “Festival of Breaking the Fast” and occurs on the first day of the lunar month ‘Shawwal’.The eid activity was celebrated at LRC with great pomp and gaiety on 4th June 2019. The teachers planned Eid activity (making mosque) with a motive of helping children to learn about and understand the culture, tradition and religion. With the objective of teaching the students significance of this festival, the teachers discussed with the students how this festival is celebrated. The celebration began with greetings. Children greets each other “Happy Eid” and were shown a small animated video about Eid. They were explained about the importance of the festival and they made a mosque using chart paper then they finger paint it with different colours. After that students and teachers performed Eid Rouf ( kashmiri folk dance) in a group. The children had a lot of fun and enjoyed dancing with their teachers and peers. The motive behind the celebration was to bring students closer to tradition and cultural belief.
Children will remember an important day only if they are told what the occasion signify, making them aware of the world in a more fun way. Celebrating cultural or religious festivals is a learning experience – students get to learn about the festival, the reason for the celebration and its significance.
