Bright Futures - A Capital Campaign for MNU

This moment was once described as “someday.”

When our story was just beginning, we dreamed this would be a place where students could invest themselves in learning. We prayed for experiences that would nurture and transform them. And we anticipated what the future would hold.

Someday.

Since then, many have invested themselves in creating the MidAmerica Nazarene University that we know and love today. Their vision and God’s faithfulness have combined to inspire and impact thousands of students.

Because they didn’t just set out to build a college—they dedicated themselves to creating a place that would change the world one student at a time.

So what does this mean for us today?

Look across our campus and into the eyes of today’s Pioneers. You’ll see endless possibilities. Teachers. Doctors.

Scholars. Pastors. Leaders.

You’ll see the Pioneers who will shape our future.

We have a great responsibility to inspire and support these Pioneers.

In the short time students spend here, we commit ourselves first and foremost to connecting them to the transforming love of Christ. It happens in the classroom, in chapel, in the dorms and on the field. It’s vital we change the future of our

students, our community and our world.

What might happen if those students also had access to cutting-edge tools and technology? If they were provided new opportunities, better spaces and more resources?

The Need The Bright Futures campaign is ambitious. We have significant goals that will advance the university and provide a host of new opportunities for students and faculty.

1. Academic Programs

Stimulating the creativity and imagination of our expert faculty

Where do we start in our mission to impact the future for Christ? We start by investing together in academic programs, faculty and students.

We help our students uncover their passion and pursue their purpose, ensuring that they leave MNU prepared to be ministers, nurses, teachers and leaders.

We support the exceptional educators who inspire students’ hearts and minds in classrooms and labs all across our campus.

And we build even stronger academic programs that nurture our team of qualified and motivated faculty, equipping them to reimagine teaching methods in a liberal arts setting.

As employment opportunities for students change, the technology required to make the most of those opportunities changes with it. This campaign will provide the resources we need to create and support relevant, impactful curriculum for new and in-demand undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

We already have seen momentum in achieving this goal.

A federal Department of Education grant has allowed MNU to establish a Center for Career & Life Calling, focused on career counseling and preparation.

This campaign propels us forward. It will ensure the future of MNU is a bright one.

2. Capital Projects Access to new facilities and new tools

Goal: $28,109,262  Construct a new student center  Construct a new athletic complex and stadium  Learning Commons and technology upgrades

The MNU campus is the centerpiece of countless college experiences. This campaign will empower us to pursue significant projects to enhance it. More than ever before, education requires hightech tools, state-of-the-art facilities and energy-efficient buildings. These are the new prerequisites for a thriving campus.

By building new facilities, we expand our capacity to serve more students in the future.

Through reinvestment in existing facilities, we ensure that our campus is more functional, welcoming and environmentally responsible.

Cunningham Student Center In order to foster a vibrant living and learning community, we must build stronger connections across our campus by providing a place for all our students to interact together and with faculty.

We plan to replace the existing Campus Center and build a brand new, state-of-the-art, multi-use space.

The Cunningham Student Center will also allow us to reimagine the space that houses Enrollment

Development, Student Financial Aid Services, Student Development and the campus store. It will provide a larger and more efficient dining area, an expanded kitchen and new meeting

spaces. We want to give visitors an incredible first impression of MNU while better serving our students, faculty and staff.

Athletic Complex

Athletic Complex & Stadium Pioneer athletics have increased MNU’s visibility and reputation. Now, we’re taking the next step toward excellence by planning a first-rate athletic complex that will meet the needs of our existing program while allowing us to serve more studentathletes and develop new athletic programs.

A 2,000 seat stadium will give us the opportunity to reconnect the Pioneers with their home crowd.

A new field will bring a home-field advantage to many of our teams. A new track will provide practice and competition space for the track-andfield and cross-country teams.

Learning Commons and Technology Upgrades Preparing students for successful careers requires enhanced technology, additional academic support resources and job search assistance. Our investment in renovating the Mabee Learning Commons provides the ability to house these resources in a dedicated space. Mock interview rooms, increased

collaboration spaces and an expanded tutoring area create an environment for students to thrive.

We will continue to enhance our campus resources and infrastructure through collaborative classroom technology, upgrades to our campus network and new tools for specific academic programs.

3. University Support Building additional support to bolster student scholarships and operations

Goal: $26,214,328 MNU transforms lives by providing a Christ-centered education that is responsive to the needs of 21st century students. The Bright Futures campaign provides additional support for current operations and endowments that help build MNU’s overall financial strength.

Making our mission a reality for future generations takes on many forms:  Support from local Nazarene churches and from endowed scholarships increases our ability to offer competitive financial aid packages and recruit a greater number of outstanding students.  The University Fund ensures that MNU can address immediate needs related to operating costs, maintenance, non-endowed scholarships, fine arts and athletic team support.  Academic endowments nurture MNU’s culture of teaching and learning.  Gifts provide flexibility that allows us to enhance curricular and residential-life initiatives.

Growing university support in each of these areas will ultimately increase the number of students who attend MNU and enhance the quality of their experience in meaningful and memorable ways.
