Congratulations on qualifying for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Alpine Racing Association’s 51ST Annual Wisconsin High School Ski & Snowboard Championships at Mt. La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Saturday, Sunday, & Monday, February 14th-16th, 2026.

PROCEDURES :: EACH SKI and SNOWBOARD TEAM SHALL CONSIST OF NO MORE THAN SEVEN (7) MEMBERS. However, no more than six (6) and no fewer than four (4) members of each team may compete in each team event.

Running orders may be different for each event.

SC ORING

INDIVIDUAL SCORING A. First, the time of a racer will determine his/her place in each event. Second, the total of the places achieved by the racer in each of the events will indicate his/her place in the overall standings. The lowest number will represent first place, the second lowest will represent second place, etc. Finally, in the overall standings, ties will be broken by adding the racer’s times in each event. The lowest times will represent first place, etc.

TEAM SCORING B. Individual times of each SKI and SNOWBOARD racer will be recorded and placed numerically. The four fastest finishes per team will be added together to determine the total place points for that team in each event. The team with the lowest team place points will earn first place, the second lowest will earn second place, etc. Each team’s combined place points from each event will determine the team’s overall standing in the Championships. Ski teams will feature two divisions based on enrollment with teams predetermined prior to the event.

TIES C. Individual single event: There is no tie breaker. If two people get the same time, they remain tied for that place. Team single event: Add up the total times of the 4 top racers among the tied teams for that event. Individual Overall results: For the tied racers, add up each one’s times for all three events. Team Overall results: Add up all the times for the 4 top racers of each event.

PENALTY POINTS D. Each DNF/DQ finisher will receive 200 race points in the specific event of the fault. This penalty will also carry over to that racer’s place in the overall standings. It will also be factored into the team’s place points in that event and in the team’s overall standing if the team has fewer than four clean finishes.

MEDALS & TROPHIE S:

As described in scoring, trophies in the ski events will be awarded to the first, second, and third place overall boys and girls teams and to the first place overall individual boy and girl. Each member of the top three overall teams in each division will be awarded a medal based upon standings. Medals will also be awarded to the top five individuals per event. Trophies in the snowboard competition will be awarded to the first, second, and third place overall boys and girls teams and their members will receive medals. First-place trophies will be awarded to the top overall individual boy and girl and medals awarded to the top three individuals per event.

ALL-STATE TEAM:

All-State Ski Team will consist of 12 boys and 12 girls and will travel members of Team Wisconsin to compete in the Western High School Ski Championships at Loveland Ski Area in Dillon, CO. At this point, there is no inter-state high-school team racing competition for snow-boarders. An All-State selection of Snowboarders will be announced based on individual placements in each event. The top 3 finishers in Boarder SL, GS, and BX will be named, and eligible to purchase the All-State Team Jackets.

A Message from the Presiding Officer of the WIARA Committee Welcome to all the athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, and fans of the 2026 Wisconsin Alpine Race Association Championships at Mt. La Crosse. This is the 51st year of the championships and the 33rd year hosted by Mt. La Crosse.

This is the largest high school ski racing championship event in the country. It is also the only one that has a Jumbotron and is broadcasted on the World -Wide Web. We keep hearing from other states that they are very envious of our Championship This will be my last year as the presiding officer of WIARA. It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve WIARA and its members. I have had the pleasure of working with some strong, dedicated board members over the years. I would like to thank all of them for their hard work and friendship!

That said, it’s time for new blood to lead the organization to an even higher level.

I would like to thank Kathy Frise, Jeremiah Burish, and Kristi Koch for all of the fundraising and organizing of this event and our board meetings. All three do so much behind the scenes. I would also like to thank our entire WIARA Steering Committee for the insight and guidance to continue to improve the athlete and spectator experience.

On behalf of everyone at Mt. La Crosse, we are excited to welcome you not only to our hill, but to the greater La Crosse community.

Whether this is your first visit to the Driftless Region or you have joined us here before, we hope you feel the warmth, pride, and passion for winter sports that define this special corner of Wisconsin.

This season marks the 66th anniversary of Mt. La Crosse, and we are incredibly honored to host the Wisconsin State Championships for the 33rd consecutive year. Being trusted year after year with such an important event is something we do not take lightly, and we are proud to share both our history and our home with you.

Mt. La Crosse began with humble roots — a single A-frame chalet and a surface Poma lift that helped establish a thriving ski culture in the beautiful Driftless Region that La Crosse is built upon. From those early days, our mission has been about more than just skiing. It has been about creating a place where athletes, families, and communities come together to celebrate the sport and build lifelong memories.

Racing has, from the start, been an important piece of the Mt. La Crosse story. The Wisconsin State Championship quickly became a cornerstone chapter, and it remains one of our proudest traditions. Each season, we strive to create a championship experience that reflects the dedication, talent, and sportsmanship of the athletes and families who travel here every February.

In recent years, new ownership has continued to invest in Mt. La Crosse, including the addition of a state-of-the-art snowmaking system that has helped provide some of the most consistent and outstanding conditions in company history. These improvements help set the stage, but what truly elevates this event is the incredible volunteer group whose tireless commitment, countless hours, and passion for high school racing have helped shape the Wisconsin State Championships into something truly special. Their dedication, combined with the unwavering support of the La Crosse community, has helped create an event that stands apart — one that is unmatched by any other high school-level ski competition in the nation.

Beyond the slopes, we encourage you to enjoy everything the La Crosse area has to offer — from its scenic river valleys and welcoming downtown to the many local businesses and restaurants that proudly support this event and visiting athletes each year. Sue Bluske spent 32 years as an active and eager volunteer with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Alpine Racing Championships from the first moment Mt. La Crosse became its perennial venue beginning in 1994 .

In late1993, Sue was working full-time (which in the wintertime at a ski hill means “double full-time”) as the Mt. La Crosse bookkeeper. Despite her already overbooked schedule, she let herself be recruited by the new State Championship Race Administrator Lois Storlie, a close friend and retired colleague, to come on board and assist with race registration and bib distribution.

That willingness to volunteer her time and expertise soon grew into an “itch” that she could never fully scratch, or in other words, a habit she could not kick. Three decades later, Sue remained committed to this project. Very few State-governing body members and volunteers can claim the same level of commitment.

Over the ensuing years, Sue’s duties and time commitment grew. She became the full-fledged Race Registrar, responsible for ensuring registration accuracy, overseeing mail-in and on-sight registrations, and spending every free hour during and before the days of the race itself to doing a comprehensive job and ensuring accuracy. Those countless hours eventually became countless days of volunteer work throughout the fall, winter, and spring of each year.

By 2015 her job had become even more demanding. She volunteered to help helm the T-shirt sales program, a fundraising operation whose responsibilities and financial demands expanded over the years. It began as a fundraiser for the host teams when the event was held at Rib Mountain, but when the race was moved to La Crosse, Committee reps from throughout the state, including those from La Crosse, envisioned a different purpose for the account: to fund the Championship’s awards and trophies.

Shortly thereafter, the fundraiser was tasked with not only funding the costs of both ski and board medals and trophies, BUT ALSO the cost of insurance coverage for the State Meet itself and its representatives. It took hours of time to organize and sell merchandise, while also still managing her duties as race registrar.

After the 2024 Championships, Sue finally stepped down, leaving a large vacancy to fill, but with high hopes that her successor(s) would also feel inspired to make a commitment to continuing the quality of the State Championships operations she oversaw for 32 years. “It was a very hard decision to step down after all of these years, but I knew it was time,” said Sue. “I do miss the excitement and the skiers and snowboarders. I especially miss my interaction with the coaches and the friendships that I made. I am deeply honored to receive this award and cannot tell you how much you all have meant to me.”

Now as part of the 2026 State Championships, the event’s officials, participants, and their families are asked to celebrate Sue’s 32 years of service as well. “It is most certainly time to honor Sue’s dedication and altruism with this award presentation,” said Cindy Patza, former State Race Administrator.

Unlike most of the State Championship volunteers, Sue never had a child in the program, Patza explained.

“Sue devoted herself to this work, and much more behind the scenes, purely out of a spirit of generosity and a sense of pride,” said Patza. “My mom Lois, a fellow Lifetime award recipient, thought the world of Sue, whom she loved like a daughter and respected as a partner in their shared mission.”
