Dow Netherlands Dow has three locations in the Netherlands. Delfzijl, Dordrecht and Terneuzen. Dow Terneuzen, in the Province of Zeeland, is the largest site outside the United States and the second largest worldwide. We produce plastics and basic raw materials that are used to make numerous products that we all use every day.

Integrated production The process of producing the plastics and basic raw materials starts with our ‘crackers’. In our crackers, naphtha and LPG are split (‘cracked’) into different substances using steam at high temperatures of up to more than 1100 °C.

After cracking, the substances are cooled step by step. At each cooling step, the gases become liquid one at a time. They are then separated and distilled. In this way, basic raw materials remain.

Products These basic raw materials are used to produce various plastics, industrial intermediates, coatings and silicones. In Terneuzen, we produce about 800 products for various applications:

Terneuzen Industrial Park Since 1965, we have been producing all our products at the Industrial Park. The Industrial Park has 16 factories and covers 440 hectares. That's equivalent to 625 football fields.

Maintenance Valuepark
Valuepark Terneuzen The Valuepark Terneuzen is a joint venture between Dow Benelux and the port authority North Sea Port. It is divided into 3 areas: Mosselbanken, Logistics Park, and Maintenance Valuepark. Mosselbanken aims to become a leading, sustainable, and circular industrial park in the European chemical industry. The Logistics Park is conveniently located, making it attractive for our partners. The Maintenance 8
Valuepark is a hotspot for innovation and development in the maintenance sector. Various companies - many of which are Dow partners have their offices here. That's very convenient, as it allows these contractors to quickly be on the Dow site for maintenance work. Additionally, the Terneuzen Diamond Center is also located here.
Terneuzen Diamond Center A striking landmark in the Zeeland landscape is the Terneuzen Diamond Center. Our office building was opened in 2019 and has the
name and diamond shape of the Dow logo.
During construction, Dow materials were used, including paint, flooring, and insulation.
Terneuzen Service Center for EMEAI region From the Terneuzen Diamond Center,
we provide support to our sites in Europe,
the Middle East, Africa, and India. We focus on various support departments, such as:
Customer Service, Supply Chain, Logistics,
HR, Finance, Procurement, and Public Affairs.

Safety At Dow, protecting the environment, the ecosystem, and our employees is a top priority. Safety is deeply embedded in our company culture and in every decision we make.

Strict rules apply at our Industrial Park because safety must always be guaranteed. For example, using personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety helmets and work clothing, is mandatory. Another example is wearing reflective elements and a helmet when moving around the site by bicycle.
We also take our responsibility towards the community very seriously. We inform neighbours, local residents and stakeholders about our activities at the Industrial Park, including unplanned activities that are noticeable outside the boundaries of our Industrial Park. We also work closely with government agencies and comply with the strictest standards. In this way, we ensure safe production and protect our environment.

Company fire department To ensure the safety of both our employees and the environment, we have our own company fire department. Our firefighters are on standby 24/7. The largest professional firefighting team in Zeeland trains daily to be well-prepared for an unplanned situation.

Innovation Groundbreaking innovations are essential for a sustainable future. It is an ongoing process of monitoring trends, gaining knowledge, and seeking ways to produce even more sustainably. A technological advancement is the development of sustainable materials in collaboration with the Jaguar TCS Racing team. These innovations lead to improved efficiency and performance in electric cars. Another great example is “the sleep studio”, where various materials for mattresses are tested.

R&D Campus: From idea to innovation Our specialists from the Research & Development (R&D) team are at the forefront of almost all innovations. These include technicians, process engineers, and research scientists. Worldwide, there are approximately 3,000 R&D employees, of which 200 colleagues are in Terneuzen. How can we make our processes even more sustainable? What improvements can we make to our products? These are the questions that keep our R&D colleagues busy on a daily basis.
Did you know?
The Dow site in Terneuzen was opened in 1965 by Prince Bernhard? And that his grandson, King WillemAlexander, was present at Dow's 50th anniversary? The first naphtha cracker -LHC1was started up in 1969 and is still in operation? In 1995, the biological wastewater treatment plant, the BIOX, was put into operation? As a result, the reuse of wastewater is possible. There are many animals living on our site, such as peregrine falcons?
We come into contact with Dow products and solutions at least 60 times a day. That Dow employees have their own fitness centre in the Diamond Center? The Dow sites in Terneuzen and Dordrecht are the first certified plastic pellet producers in the Netherlands with Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) sustainability certification? Dow Terneuzen has a staff association with more than 20 sub-departments, ranging from a dance club to a rowing club? This brochure is made of sustainable paper?

Employee Resource Groups Within Dow, we have several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These are voluntary, employee-led groups aimed at promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and creating a sense of belonging. Additionally, ERGs also organise events to raise awareness for social issues.
Involved in society As one of the largest employers in Zeeland, we are happy to contribute to the quality of life, well-being, and economy of our province. Our enthusiastic donation team, therefore, supports approximately 40 valuable projects each year.

In addition to providing financial support through donations, we encourage our employees to actively contribute to society by doing volunteer work. Investing in the next generation We are in daily contact with regional schools, universities, and other companies. Students visit us regularly and we provide many guest lectures. Also, we introduce children and young people to technology and chemistry during local events, such as Science Weekend.

We are involved in at least 100 activities related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) each year. A great example is the Junior Practice Program (JPP). This program offers students in technical fields the opportunity to intern at Dow and other companies, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge into practice from a young age.
