In the heart of Downtown York, two institutions stand out as pillars of community wellness: the Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA and the YWCA York. Both offer comprehensive fitness and wellness programs that cater to individuals of all ages and abilities.

ARTHUR J. GLATFELTER YMCA
Located in the WeCo District, the Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA is a cornerstone of health and wellness in York. Celebrating 100 years at its Newberry St location, the facility boasts a range of amenities, including a fully equipped fitness center, indoor pool, gym, sauna, and whirlpool. Members can participate in various programs such as aquatics and health and well-being initiatives, as well as take part in art and culture programs designed for youth development. A few short blocks walk up Newberry St, past Farquhar Park, one will find the Graham Aquatics Center, which offers even more aquatic fun, including an outdoor pool with a waterslide, multiple water play structures, a beach-style entry, and food and drink concessions. York City residents can purchase discounted day and season passes for the outdoor pool, making it a local, affordable option for fun in the sun.

The YMCA’s aquatics program offers swim lessons, lifeguard training, and family swim times, promoting water safety and fitness. The indoor pool provides a space for lap swimming and aquatic exercise classes, accommodating swimmers of all levels.

YWCA YORK
Just on the other side of Downtown in York’s Downtown East Neighborhood, YWCA York is dedicated to enhancing wellness through a variety of programs. Their aquatics offerings include swim classes for all ages, aqua exercise classes, and the nationally competitive York Synchro Team. Unique classes like mermaid swims and paddleboard yoga add a creative twist to traditional aquatic fitness
In addition to aquatics, YWCA York provides yoga and mindfulness classes aimed at increasing balance, strength, and flexibility. These classes are also designed to help manage pain, stress, anxiety, and trauma, welcoming individuals and families alike. YWCA York also offers a fitness center equipped with a weight room, cardio room, sauna, and Pilates studio, providing a comprehensive environment for physical health.

Both the YMCA and YWCA York are committed to making wellness accessible to the community.
