The Downtown BRZ acknowledges that we are gathered on the lands of the Blackfoot people of the Canadian Plains and pays respect to the Blackfoot people past, present and future while recognizing and respecting their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship to the land. MOTION: I move to approve the 2023 BRZ year end Financial Statements as presented.
MOTION: I move that the firm Avail LLP Chartered Accountants be appointed auditors for the 2024 reporting year.
ADVOCACY
● Abusy year of events and initiatives with an emphasis on ADVOCACYfor business and property owners in the Downtown.
● Advocated for supportive housing and similar permits to be expanded beyond the DTin the ongoing Land Use Bylaw revisions.
● Parking package arrived at after a year of negotiations with the city.
● The Downtown Lawlessness ReductionTask Force
● Participated in the City of LethbridgeAdvocacy Framework planning.
EDUCATION
● Ongoing both to the BRZ members and the wider community.
● In collaboration with the City and the Chamber of Commerce, we hosted ten DTSafety Education and Information sessions.
● We presented on the Clean Sweep Program at the International DowntownAssociation conference in Chicago.
● Mandatory recycling and organics implementation in the DT.
EDUCATION
● Construction in the DT- acted as intermediary between the city and the DT businesses to ensure smooth and consistent messaging.
● Participation in Community Conversation event.
● Public Places Bylaw 6280 signage.
● Keeping the BRZ in local news - 57 interactions with media.
SUPPORTAND PROMOTION
● We leveraged your DTmembership taxes of $238,300 into over $887,250 worth of services, events, marketing and community building.
● Accessible and Inclusive Playspace in Galt Gardens.
● Maintained communication and lobbied for rapid and safe demolition of the Lethbridge Hotel.
● Supported businesses affected by the resulting water main break.
● Supported LHAin its bid to initiate permanent supportive housing facility on the northside.
SUPPORTAND PROMOTION
● LookAhead Consulting andTL- to create an RFP response to secure business events in the city.
● BrighterTogether survey with Economic Development
Lethbridge.
● Winged Whale Media - developing processes for the city’s film productions management.
