COVID-19 SERVICES
AURORA STREATERY Returning this Spring, enjoy socially-distant dining al fresco at multiple restaurants on Aurora Street (known to locals as Restaurant Row). This street will be closed to vehicle traffic to allow restaurants to expand their outdoor dining space the full expanse of the sidewalk and pedestrians to walk in the street. Additionally, restaurants on the Commons and other streets around the district will expand dining areas outside their restaurants. You can find a listing of restaurants on this street in our Dining Section on page 33 or in the Areas to Explore Restaurant Row Section on page 10.
CURBSIDE PICK-UP STATIONS Downtown Ithaca has six locations along curbsides around the district as curbside pick-up locations. Customers of shops and restaurants can pull up at these designated areas and remain in their car for curbside delivery from one of the nearby shops and restaurants. The locations are: • Seneca St. and Buffalo St., both near the Dewitt Mall • Tioga/Seneca St. at the Commons • Cayuga St. at the Commons • Aurora St. at the Commons • Green St. in front of Press Bay

HAND SANITIZER STATIONS As you stroll through the Commons, you’ll notice hand sanitizer dispensers have been made available for your use. They are stationed on light poles at major gateway entrances and along the pedestrian walking areas. Washing hands often and thoroughly when and where soap and water are available is always preferable, but if this can not be done, people are encouraged to make use of the hand sanitizer stations to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

As Covid-19 vaccination rates increase and activities start start back up, it is important to remember that many businesses in Downtown Ithaca will continue to work hard to protect customers and operate their businesses safely.
Downtown Ithaca businesses will continue to follow recommended safety guidelines recommended by the Tompkins County Health Department, the State of New York, and the CDC. We ask all customers, to help keep the community safe by following safety guidelines outlined for each business. These will include mask wearing, limited contact with products on display inside shops, and following social distance or capacity guidance.

GROWING During your visit, you may notice an incredible construction project underway a short walking distance from the Commons. This spring, the existing Green Street Garage around and above Cinemapolis movie theater will undergo a significant vertical transformation utilizing space in our growing community! This large whole-block project is both the Asteri and the Ithacan development projects. Together, these projects will result in the construction of two glorious 11-story buildings with 181 affordable housing units above a state-of-the-art community conference center, retail space, and 200 market rate apartments. It will transform Green Street with reimagined public spaces and necessary infrastructure updates. Demolition of the existing garage is scheduled to begin in March 2021 and the Green Street Garage reopening is anticipated for late Fall 2021, with the Conference Center and housing anticipated late 2022.

after famed Cornell University astronomer Carl Sagan, a scale model of the solar system which originates with the sun on the Commons and stretches 3/4 mile to the Sciencenter. The inner ring planets all fit on a short section of Bank Alley.
Upscale restaurants such as Mia Tapas Bar & Restaurant, Simeon’s American Bistro, Thompson and Bleecker and Monks on the Commons are classy settings with gourmet foods served alongside cocktails & spirits. Casual places like Casablanca Pizzeria and Tian Jin or Momo (both serve authentic dumplings and other popular Asian cuisine inside Center Ithaca) are family-friendly and fast. Sushi Osaka offers many freshly wrapped sushi options and traditional Japanese cuisine while Kimchi serves authentic Korean cuisine and Waffle Frolic provides a variety of freshly prepared breakfast and lunch options. A fun hangout for millennials is Nothing Nowhere where you’ll find specialty cafe-style beverages and interesting chatter from the baristas.

Welcome to the Ithaca Commons Canine Friends! It’s hard to believe for a community that is so pet-friendly, but for many years, dogs were not allowed on the Ithaca Commons. However, this past winter, the City of Ithaca Common Council voted to allow leashed dogs onto the commons. Dog waste stations will be provided and owners are required to clean up after their furry friends.

Gallery Night Ithaca Art Gallery Exhibits in Person & Virtually Every first Friday of the Month Presented by: Tompkins Trust Company Sponsored by: WSKG Gallery Night Ithaca presented by Tompkins Trust Company is a monthly event in Downtown Ithaca featuring new art exhibits inside galleries and shops around the downtown district. View art exhibits in virtual 3D galleries and watch art talks and demonstrations online. Take self-guided walking tours of window art displays or check out exhibits inside galleries who have reopened with socially distant viewing options. Gallery Night Ithaca is also supported by WSKG and made possible in part with a grant from the Community Arts Partnership. In-person gallery night openings hope to return this summer. CFCU Summer CONCERT SERIES Free and fun for the entire family, the CFCU Downtown Ithaca Summer Concert Series will broadcast virtually at 6:00 pm each Thursday evening through the Summer. These concerts are traditionally held outdoors at the Bernie Milton Pavilion on the Commons; and may still return to live performances late in the season. However, the shows will appear virtually on the downtown ithaca website and Facebooke Live until it has been deemed safe for large gatherings in the state of New York. Local and national acts perform music in genres including jazz, blues, reggae, folk, hip hop, country, bluegrass, rock, and more. The concerts are all ages, so tune in with the whole family! And, even plan takeout from one of the restaurants in Downtown Ithaca to complete the experience! BIte OF ITHACA A true celebration of culinary discovery in Ithaca, New York, Bite of Ithaca is an event that local and regional foodies look forward to all year long. For one long week, participating restaurants, eateries, and bars around the community will offer $5 “bites” for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner alongside their normal menus. These bites may be mini versions of full plates or designed to be ordered in combination like tapas. Customers can create their own culinary adventure by mapping out the restaurants they want to dine at throughout the week using their Bite passport. TOMPKINS TRUST COMPANY APPLE HARVEST FESTIVE Celebrating the Apple Harvest Season Safely & Socially Distant Presented by: Tompkins Trust Company Downtown Ithaca will welcome farmers, cideries and of course apple growers to showcase their harvest bounty throughout the week in a socially distant, dedensified farmers market and cider trail happening on the commons and inside downtown shops and restaurants in the district. Shops and restaurants will also feature apple & cider themed menus and goods for sale too, all of which will be on a Cider Trail passport. People can collect stamps from shops & eateries they visit during the week to win prizes! Garage Parking Downtown Downtown Ithaca currently has 2 city-owned parking structures downtown for a combined 2,000 parking spaces available with a third garage about to under go construction and slated to re-open near the end of 2021. Both garages are conveniently located for walkable access to anything downtown. Seneca Garage 202 E. Seneca St. Cayuga Garage 235 S. Cayuga St.
All Garages Are Automated Self-Pay Parking Customers are encouraged to pay at garage pay machines conveniently located near garage elevators before they get in their cars and drive away. There are also credit-card only pay machines at the exit gate in case you forget.
On-Street Pay Stations Parking pay stations are centrally located on each block and accept cash/coin, credit or debit cards. You only have to pay once for the day and can move your car around to various downtown or Collegetown metered parking areas. On-street metered parking is currently $1.50/hr. Minimum parking purchase for credit card payments is $0.50. No minimum for cash/coin purchases.
Parkmobile SmartphonE App You can also pay with your smartphone by downloading and using the Parkmobile app (smartphones). The app allows you to easily pay to park from the comfort of your car. Parkmobile is a convenient app used in other cities around the U.S. and will send you notifications when your time is running out. You can easily extend your time by following prompts in the text message.

Hilton Garden Inn: 130 E. Seneca St. Ithaca Marriott 120 S. Aurora St. : Valet parking is available 7 days a week, 12pm – 10pm at a rate of $3/hour. Simply pull up to either hotel’s front entrance and look for a parking attendant or ask at the front desk.

Biking in Ithaca Downtown Ithaca is becoming a safer and more convenient place to bike thanks to efforts by the City of Ithaca, local initiatives and community members. Check out Bikewalktompkins.org to learn more about riding your bicycle in Downtown Ithaca. The site includes maps and guides highlighting bike lanes trails, and bike boulevards for safer city cycling. You’ll also find on the map featured in this guide locations of covered bicycle parking facilities within the district.
This new location for the Intercity Bus Depot is conveniently located next to TCAT’s Green Street bus stop, which is major transfer station for the local bus service to all parts of Tompkins County. Ourbus Pick-up & drop-off for travelers riding on Ourbus is located at 130 E. Seneca St. out in front of Starbucks and the Hilton Garden Inn.

State of the Art Gallery (SOAG) F11 120 W. Waterfalls: After all, Ithaca is Gorges!
Five hundred generations ago, glaciers a mile high melted to a landscape of crystal lakes, jagged gorges and thundering waterfalls. The waterfalls are found along creeks that flow into Cayuga Lake. Many parks with trails will have a gorge trail, which follows the creek and along the edge of the gorge there will be an overlook to the falls.

Cascadilla Creek Gorge
Connecting the Cornell campus to downtown (“the greenway connecting town and gown”). One of Cornell Plantations’ natural areas, this gorge is a natural greenway in the heart of an urban area. Gorge walk is 1.3 miles with many stairs. Enter at Linn St. near Downtown.
Ithaca Falls
The cascading fall is Fall Creek’s final plunge to Cayuga Lake.. With a drop of 150ft and width of 175ft, Ithaca Falls is the region’s most powerful and most impressive. By 1817, a half-dozen mills were operating here, their ruins are still visible on the south bank. Directions: From Downtown Ithaca, take Aurora St. north 0.7mi to Lincoln St. Turn right, then take an immediate left onto Lake St. The falls will be on your right. Additional waterfall and gorge experiences can be had close to downtown including Taughannock Falls State Park, Buttermilk Falls State Park and Robert Treman State Park. The Sagan Planet Walk, a scale model of the Solar System, is named in memory of Carl Sagan—a respected scientist and member of the Ithaca community for nearly 30 years.
