Faith In The Future Downside remains hugely popular with current parents, their sons and daughters, and former pupils… A significant sign here of faith in the future. Will Heaven (C05) Each year, numerous applications are received from families with bright, talented children, whose potential is far greater than their financial means. Downside’s tradition of offering means-tested bursaries, equates to just under £2 million each year. Bursarial support enables deserving pupils the opportunity of a Downside Education. Becoming part of a lifelong community, where individuality is valued and nurtured. Without the continued support and generosity from our Downside family, especially in today’s world of such uncertainty and ever growing financial strain, we would not be able to offer this life changing provision to so many worthy pupils.
Just The Beginning‌ Hans Fleischner (C45), is a longstanding benefactor, whose vision is for OGs to come together and give back, supporting future generations to come to Downside. At the start of the new academic year, Hans donated an immensely generous gift of $1 million to the Bursary and Scholarship Fund. It is because of humble and caring benefactors, such as Hans, that we can continue the rich diversity of talented pupils, from all walks of life to join the Downside and Old Gregorian family. Hans’ faith in the future is just the beginning. We hope you will join him and give the gift of education through supporting the Bursary Fund.

I wanted to say how hugely we appreciated the very generous bursaries that both our children held during their time at Downside. They say it takes a village to raise a child - in this case the Downside community came to our rescue. At the time, we were in a position to pay for one child but not both, and your support made all the difference - we did not want to do for one what we could not do for the other. Both have gone on to do really well: attending excellent universities and in good jobs. Maintaining lifelong friends from their time at Downside just what every parent wants. What Have We Achieved So Far? SINCE 2008 – OVER 1200 GIFTS – RAISING £3.1 MILLION. RESULTING IN 700 PUPILS RECEIVING A MEANS-TESTED BURSARY PLACE.
The Impact For Pupils At Downside you are supported to be the best version of yourself – whatever your interests and talents. Tax Efficient Giving If you are a UK tax payer we can increase the value of your donation by 25% making every £1,000 worth £1,250. If you are a higher-rate tax payer then you can also reclaim 25% of the value of your donation against your liability on your selfassessment tax return so that your donation costs you 60% of its value to us.
