Joyce was born December 21, 1951, in Des Moines, IA, to Joseph Daniel and Frances Elizabeth (Fleming) Nash. She attended Lincoln High School and Drake University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and a master’s in education. She completed her student teaching at Dowling and was hired following graduation. In 1978 she married John Stasi and they spent 15 years together before his passing in 1993.

Joyce impacted so many during the 43 years she spent teaching at DCHS before her retirement in 2017. She was a talented artist and took great joy in introducing her students to a variety of disciplines, teaching courses in photography, art & design, and metals.

Her impact at DCHS extended far beyond the classroom. In addition to being an outstanding educator in the Visual Arts Department, she was very involved with student activities, serving as co-director for many years, as junior and senior class moderator, student council moderator, and helped with Christmas Baskets. She touched many generations of families and made a difference in the lives of so many.

Joyce is remembered by her colleagues for her warmth and kindness, her sense of humor and her quick wit. She is remembered fondly and greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her. To read more about Joyce, please visit: https://bit.ly/3bGzh7n

BOB TRUSTY

Bob Trusty, a longtime teacher and coach at Dowling Catholic, passed away on April 7, 2021. Bob was born August 22, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge and attended college at St. Ambrose University in Davenport. He received his master’s in education at Drake University in Des Moines.

Bob dedicated his entire 55-year career to Dowling Catholic before his retirement in 2018. He began teaching in 1963 at the old Dowling High School where he served as a math teacher and also coached swimming and track. He went on to teach programming when computer classes were first offered at DCHS and eventually served as the network administrator for the school. Although this role took him away from the classroom, he continued to share his knowledge with the many students who served as helpers in the technology department throughout the years. In addition to his tremendous contributions in the classroom and in athletics, he also made a difference in the lives of many students through his involvement with Kairos.
