2017-18 ANNUAL REPORT

L ETTER FROM THE PR E S I D E N T Dear Members of the Dowling Catholic Community, The beginning of each school year brings the promise of many great opportunities. As the school year begins we encourage our students to achieve at the highest levels in their faith development, academics and activities. Your generosity allows us to support every one of our students in this pursuit and we appreciate your partnership in creating a student experience second to none. Our school was created with the unique purpose of developing students who focus on becoming Leaders for Life, Centered on Christ. To accomplish this our community, faculty and students must continually embrace our faith and the challenges presented to us on the court, in the classroom and in the world. As a school, we are focused on providing access to all who value and seek a faith-based education. While nearly 40 percent of Dowling Catholic students currently receive tuition assistance, there is unmet need that remains. Further enhancing our ability to provide tuition assistance requires that we increase foundation funds, thus allowing us to decrease the financial aid gap between demonstrated need and available awards. New and innovative programs such as “Insight” are entering our classrooms. Two pilot classes in business and science have been paired with community partners to extend the classroom experience outside of the classroom walls. These partnerships show students that what they are learning applies to the world they will be entering and challenges them to learn the interpersonal and professional skills necessary to be successful in today’s workplace. To fully form each and every one of our students we have identified the key components of the “Dowling Catholic Experience” in the areas of faith, academics, clubs, fine arts and athletics. Research shows us that students who have quality experiences in these areas are more successful in high school and in life. Therefore, we are now starting to measure each student’s success based upon these metrics. If a student does not participate or achieve at the expected level, a group of faculty members will work to determine how Dowling Catholic, the family and the student may work together to remedy the situation. As we look forward to the year ahead, I’d like to thank you for your continued partnership and enthusiastic support of our student programs and activities.

DR. DAN RYAN
