The Doug Tarry Difference.

As the leading Net Zero builder in Canada, people often ask me, “What is the Doug Tarry Difference?”

It would be easy to reply that we are a quality builder, but every builder says that. For sure we do check that box, but it is so much more than this. As a leading edge builder we work with other industry stakeholders to advance building techniques and methods that truly help to create a more comfortable, quieter, healthier home that is also more energy efficient and environmentally responsible. I look forward to exploring this with you, our reader, over the next several newsletters.

But don’t wait for me - why not come to one of our model homes and stand on our basement floor without your shoes on. Compared to your existing home, or that of our competitors, I am sure you will be like so many of our customers and wonder at the realization that your feet are not as cold as you are used to. Is the floor heated? No. However, it is insulated underneath the concrete basement floor. This means that once the basement concrete gets warm, it maintains the warmth as part of the thermal energy (mass within the home), meaning you have a basement that is dryer, more comfortable and healthier than a code built home. This insulation also acts as a barrier to soil gases entering our home, making your basement living space safer for you and your family. And that makes the value priceless.

In upcoming articles, we will explore a number of subjects, including:

• Low solar glass

• Triple glazed windows

• The importance of water resistive barriers

• Air Source Heat Pumps and why we don’t install air conditioners

• And so much more.
