2024 QUARTERLY REPORT
The strategic plan for accomplishing the Douglasville Police Department’s mission must begin by identifying the core values. These values must be preserved and defended by the Douglasville Police Department in performing its statutory missions.

Nicotine vaping is a huge problem amongst our youth, even though it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to possess. This is true both in the city and county and is especially a problem in the high schools. The Special Operations Unit is conducting investigations into the illegal sale of vape, tobacco, and alcohol products by retail stores and restaurants. Most businesses have been in compliance with the law; however, a few have not and have been cited. Most recently, Highlanders and Tobacco & Vape on Concourse Parkway were cited.
• CBD oil vapes are legal for those over 21yoa if the THC content is less than .03%. Those under 21 are not permitted to have CBD oil vapes.
Special Operations will continue these investigations on a regular basis.
Special Operations monitors gang activity daily on social media sites.
Trends
Noticeable decrease in juvenile gang crime in the past few months.
Increased activity by motorcycle clubs. So far, the activity has not been criminal in nature.
Gambling
Special Operations is monitoring and investigating gambling or “ding-ding” machines operating inside many gas station/convenience stores where winnings are being paid in cash.
Marijuana is the most abused illicit drug in the city. Officers make marijuana related arrests almost daily, with the leading charge being “Possession of Less than One Ounce of Marijuana”, which are handled by citation.
On a much smaller scale, Methamphetamine is currently the most common illicit hard drug on the streets, followed by crack cocaine and heroin. Some samples of heroin sent to the GBI crime lab have indicated the presence of Fentanyl. Most of these drugs are being sold to users outside the city limits, who then bring them into the city to use. However, special operations is monitoring and investigating drugs sales by some residents living in several of the extended stay locations on Hwy. 5 and Thornton Rd.
