An Homage to the Old Country Come with us on a quest to honor the Old Country. It’s not truly an ode to a particular place. It’s more an homage to a state of mind, to days of yore, and a fond yearning for the luxury of life left behind. It’s a fanciful fantasy of sorts, dressing up in a destiny that wasn’t dealt us. The overall aesthetic has evident influence of Eastern European, reminiscent of Romani romanticism, and even subtle nods to the immigrants of 1883 along the westbound wagon trail. The colors are rich and saturated, the silhouettes are romantic yet bordering on bohemian, and the embellishments carry an air of opulence. Silk scarves, lace dresses, and a presence of paisley on posh velvets, it’s almost like finding a treasure trove in the trunks that couldn’t make the trek. Because we all come from somewhere, and most of us came from elsewhere, and we’re only seated in our stations today through the sake of someone’s sacrifice along the way.

The comforting cousin to “dopamine dressing”, the integration of soft volume into your outfits and accessories began a year or two ago with more obvious and ostentatious iterations, think puffer jackets and poofy quilted purses, but while the sentiment has certain staying power, the overall aesthetic has shifted towards chic. For us, that means fur every which way you fancy. Our approach is to engage in the trend two-fold, in a way that anyone can embrace, from old school to edgy accessories. If you crave a classic – and classy – vibe, you absolutely cannot go wrong with an irresistible and impossible-to-ignore collar or cuff on a sleek statement jacket. The Valdez Coat has a tamed, tapered, and timeless appeal, like something straight out of Tombstone, while the Romani Jacket boasts more of a free-spirited style and unfettered spunk of la vie boheme by retaining the natural kink of the Mongolian fur. And the perennial favorite Pueblo Pottery Jacket has that universal allure of falling somewhere in the middle. Picture Me in Paisley Exquisitely intricate and inherently elegant, no print has more personality than the paisley. It has its own unique identifiability, its own essence, and thanks in large part to The Beatles, it’s even been ascribed its own era – the ‘60s and ‘70s – which is perhaps why it carries a vibe of vintage and retro, despite the paisley’s origins being more than 2,000 years old and it being reinvigorated on the regular. Curved, colorful, and abstract, paisleys are the snowflake of the prints palette, in that they’re inherently unique; in a million designs drawn by a million different hands, you’d be hard pressed to find two exactly the same. While it’s the color combinations and embellishments that set each paisley apart, they all have a core characteristic, a curved conical shape, commonly called a comma or a teardrop, that is in fact, a ‘boteh’, the Persian word for flower. It makes for a powerful pant print, a demure shift dress, or a cheeky pocket square. Paisleys are transcendent across ages, eras, and identities, from the smocked sundresses of a little girl to the ostentatious ascot of a lord of the manor. It’s sleek and chic in silk, luxe and lovely in velvet, and nothing short of awe-inspiring in embroidery.

Magic Carpet Ride Inspiration is everywhere. It can be hanging on your wall, at the foot of your bed, or it might even be right beneath your feet. We’ve long been drawn to the loomed look of a rug and the unique aesthetic that weaves bring to a textile, particularly out of conventional context. Give us a camp-style blanket turned coat, a Navajo woven as wall art, or in this case, a kilim carpet inspired duster. The word kilim is of Turkish origin, and likewise, the technique is commonly closely associated with Turkey and surrounding regions. We could get really in the weeds about warps and wefts, but in layman’s terms, one of the things that categorizes kilim rugs in a class all their own (rather than say, alongside orientals) is that it’s a flatweave. During our trip abroad this summer, we spent some time in Turkey, meandering through the markets utterly in awe and returned home overwhelmed with inspiration for implementing it in an unexpected way.

Mic Mac The Old Country collection maintains a mindset of minimalism, an immigrant mentality of moving your entire existence elsewhere, and thus clinging only to things you truly cherish. Inadvertently, this led us down a path of inspecting a few of our all-time favorites, and the Mic Mac Jacket made the shortlist for a revival. Though the chic military aesthetic is a timeless design, our original was created in 1994, an era we can all agree is currently having a resurgence on the runway, and it was initially modeled by our own beautiful Audrey, a photograph that’s among our favorites to this day, so the Mic Mac Jacket has earned its reincarnation in style, substance, and sweet nostalgia.

I Dream in Jewel Tones Few things convey a rich and regal aura, an aesthetic of opulence, like the deep alluring hues of a gemstone palette. A far cry from the understated earth tones and distressed denims of its predecessor, Untamed Territory, this Old Country collection is – quite literally – saturated with color. It celebrates mesmerizing prints in marvelous, almost fantastical, pigments of drool-worthy jewel tones. Perhaps most notably, the designs dabble in the richest reds on the spectrum, ranging from ripe raspberry to bold burgundy and the striking sanguine shades of the Hondo Vest and the Pueblo Pottery Jacket. And, because red is recognizably a power color, potentially overpowering in large doses, we tempered it with one of its cooler contemporaries of turquoise and teal. On the whole, the collection is heavily anchored with a pervasive presence of saturated blacks and poisoned with accents of emerald and golden oat for depth and dimension.
