The Quindecennial Legacy - 15 Years

As daffodils peeked through the ground and melting snowcaps filled the rivers of the Wasatch Front, a small group gathered in a rented conference room. Excitement and pure essential oils filled the air that spring of 2008. It was the birth of dōTERRA.

The first amber bottles were labeled and packaged by hand. Since then, approximately 550,000,000 bottles of pure dōTERRA ® essential oils have been produced. A company that started with just five employees now has over 4,000. Employees, Wellness Advocates, and customers are all part of the dōTERRA family—part of the dōTERRA legacy.

Gathering and Growing

Wellness Advocate Laura King was first introduced to dōTERRA in spring of 2009. “dōTERRA is my home. The culture, the pursuit, the love—it means everything to me.” Laura has built a connected, supportive community. It started small, with “a foundation of a few like-minded individuals.”

Over the years, Laura and her team have made gathering a top priority. “We work hard to nurture relationships by gathering in person and online. Gathering like this invites deeper relationships and support. I think what makes us unique is the kindness and grace we give to one another. We must lead by example, showing others that gossip, complaining, and comparison have no place in our community.”

“The dōTERRA launch event was held in a hotel ballroom with around 300 attendees,” reflects Melissa Morris, one of the first five employees. “I could feel the energy and excitement about the company’s future. The first time we held a convention at the Salt Palace was a huge turning point. By then, dōTERRA was more than just a little start-up—we were a big company making a big impact in the world. And we still are.”

“I agree,” adds Robin Eide, an employee who’s been with dōTERRA since its second year. She continues, “I’m invested in dōTERRA. Being part of a company that started with just a handful of employees—all pitching in to get things done—but has now built a worldwide presence, I feel like I’ve contributed to its success.”

Generations of Connection

As a Wellness Advocate, Betty Torres has created a unique intergenerational dōTERRA community. After 15 years of teaching, Betty left her tenured position in search of better work-life balance.

When Betty found dōTERRA, she dreamed of working with her daughters. It didn’t happen right away, but now her dream is a reality. “We live in different parts of the country but connect every day. Life’s too short to put work and family life in separate boxes, so we’ve found a beautiful way to blend them. We’re on this great adventure together!”

Betty recalls, “When the girls were young, they hosted a pretend radio show in a makeshift tent. Now when I hear them teaching a class, I can’t help but smile and remember how they’ve been practicing for this work their entire lives. It’s so heartwarming to watch how kind, caring, and competent they are and how much they love working together.”

One more familiar face, walking the halls of dōTERRA, is CFO Drew Wolfert. He says, “It’s the physical growth— bigger buildings, more people, and more products—that’s most noticeable for me. But what’s more impressive than what has changed is what hasn’t: the heart of dōTERRA. It still has the same values and culture it started with.”

At the heart of the values and culture of dōTERRA is community—communities like those Laura, Betty, and other Wellness Advocates have created, as well as communities of growers, harvesters, and employees, and friends.

The Legacy

Memories of family, hard work, growth, joy, success, and your first opened bottle of dōTERRA ® essential oil are the foundation for where you are today. We’re driven by the memories and legacy of the past and a commitment to the future. That legacy is our stewardship over the gifts of the earth and our relationships. We share a responsibility to nurture, support, and build together.

May we all as part of the dōTERRA family foster belonging and purpose, continually building community as we pursue what’s pure for generations to come.
