DOST-CAR receives two awards

DOST-CAR was recognized as the Outstanding Regional Gender and Development Council (RGADC) Secretariat for the agency’s effective and efficient technical and administrative support to the CAR RGADC during the 2nd RGADC Summit at the Hive Hotel, Quezon City last September 25, 2018. Meanwhile, DOST-CAR Information Officer, Sheila Marie Singa-Claver, SRS II, was placed 3rd for the Outstanding S&T Information Officer Award during the 1st Bantog Science For The People Media Awards last September 28, 2018 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay, Metro Manila. The Bantog Awards is a way for the DOST Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST STII) to give due recognition to media practitioners (print, radio, TV, and online), in government and private practice ,who made significant contributions in the promotion of science and technology. Acknowledging their important role in the dissemination of pertinent S&T information.//dglc

CAR Finalists win in National Invention Contest Representatives from CAR won in two (2) contested categories during the DOST’s 2018 National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) at the Le Pavillon Metropolitan Park last August 14-16, 2018. Engr. Rodrigo P. Duque of Baguio City won 1st place in the Utility Model Category with his entry, “Portable Unihoused Water Purification and Sterilization Apparatus”. Meanwhile, students from the Saint Louis University namely Jireh Grace E. Pihoc, Jay-arr N. Urbano, John Carlo G. Marquez, Julienne Cristy D. Saliwan, Reina Joy H. Alip, Sydneyton Barri P. As-il, and Micah Joy A. Baldonado won 2nd place in the Sibol Award (College Category) for their entry, “Facade-Integrated Fog Collector: A Supplementary Residential Water Supply”. The National Invention Contest and Exhibit recognizes the ingenuity and indispensability of Filipino inventors in the country, as well as their contribution

for national development under six categories, namely, Outstanding Inventions (Tuklas) Award, Outstanding Utility Model, Outstanding Industrial Design, Outstanding Creative Research (Likha) Award, and Oustanding Student Creative Research (Sibol) Award for high school and college students. This program is instituted under Republic Act No. 7459 otherwise known as the “Investors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines” established the provision of “incentives to Filipino Inventors and expanding the functions of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes.” It can be recalled that entries from the region to the NICE were the winners during the 2017 Regional Inventions Contest and Exhibits (RICE) held on November 6-8, 2017 at the Baguio Convention Center, Baguio City.//smsc
