Trademarked as the Houseboat Capital of Canada, Sicamous is known for the unique experience of houseboatingwhich attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Each company has their own unique boats to offer.
They range from small boats made to take your family out on the lake camping to large boats for groups, events, or to split with all your friends for a weekend adventure!
Sicamous is the start of the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail going along Mara Lake toward Armstrong!
Take the ferry over at the Martin Street Public Boat Launch to the 0.5km mark. You can also drive down Old Spallumcheen Rd to the Folland Road parking lot and start the trail at 2.5km. Click
Sicamous Ferry Society offers a free pedestrian ferry across the Sicamous Narrows with stops at Martin Street Public Boat Launch and the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail.
The service runs from early spring to early fall.

The Shuswap Backcountry Riders (SBR), promotes outdoor motorized recreation in the Shuswap region and are an all inclusive organization welcoming quad, SxS & two wheel motorized riders who love and respect the backcountry.
The SBR are working on producing trail maps for locals and visitors alike to safely and responsibly enjoy the beauty and nature we are lucky enough to call home. Whether you're planning a family vacation, a solo adventure, or a group outing with fellow cycling enthusiasts, the Sicamous pump track is a must-visit.
The UCI Pump Track World Championship Qualifiers were hosted in Sicamous in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 with rave reviews from professional riders and beginners alike.
The pump track features a challenging loop for more experienced riders and a smaller kid's track for those just starting to hone their skills.

From Hwy 1, exit south onto McLean-McPherson Rd (at A&W) and head east. The trailhead is at the end of McLean-McPherson Rd and start of Owlhead FSR.
Located just minutes from Sicamous, the Owlhead Mountain Bike Trails is a growing mountain bike trail network based on the lower Owlhead Forest Service Road (FSR).
All trails are non-motorized. The terrain is a mix of rock and open slopes, with views of Shuswap Lake and the Eagle Valley. Trail development is ongoing— watch for new trails in the coming seasons.
Parking and staging are available at the Owlhead Snowmobile trailhead. Please respect signage and forestry operations.

Owlhead Mountain Bike Park currently features two trail options! Beginner mountain bikers and hikers can choose Cherry Lane for a relatively flat, longer trail with beautiful views.
If you're looking for more of a challenge, try Reservoir Dogs! This trail features fast, windy turns and jumps. Stay tuned for more trails to come!
The four surrounding mountain areas–Owlhead, Queest, Blue Lake and Eagle Pass–offer some of the best alpine sledding in Western Canada.
With both groomed and ungroomed trails to explore, and snowfilled bowls, epic powder and breathtaking views, the terrain can be accessed by all skill levels.
Sicamous businesses have everything it takes to get you geared up - offering a variety of rentals for your mountain adventures. Sicamous' local snowmobiling club can set you up with an annual membership and daily passes.
With sunny days and milder alpine temperatures throughout the winter, our mountains offer a fun full day above the clouds for families and professional riders.

The trailhead to Owlhead is located right in town. Queest, Blue Lake, and Eagle Pass riding areas are within a short 20 minute drive. All four mountains have groomed trails heading to the sledding area. Each area features a cozy cabin to warm up by the fire or enjoy your packed lunch.

SICAMOUS HAS A GROWING NETWORK OF TRAILS & GREENWAYS
Looking for a relaxed or family friendly day on the trail? The modest Sicamous Creek Trail, with its beautiful waterfall, and River Front Nature Park are excellent routes to explore. Shorter in length and low in elevation.
Work up an appetite with a steeper trail and some worthwhile views. Try The Lizard, a short hike at just 1.6km, or the Old Sicamous Highway for lake views, wildlife & waterfalls.
Hyde Mountain Lookout is a hard trail but a stunner. Larch Hills Traverse, home to an Ultra Run is truly an epic, but memorable challenge. Make sure you plan ahead and prepare accordingly.

Both spring & fall are prime times to cast your line in our lakes. With up to 30 different species of fish including bull trout, rainbow trout & more, your chances of getting a bite here are good.
Enjoy easily accessed fishing spots along the Eagle River. Great char, rainbow and bull trout fishing in summer and fall. Salmon fishing is prohibited year-round. Be sure to respect the BC regulations for different regions and release fish with care.

Boat over to their marina for a round of golf at the breathtaking MaraHills Golf Course. The wonderful resort team will pick you up at the boat dock and take you to and from the clubhouse for a meal or round of golf.
Originally opened in 2002 as Hyde Mountain GC, this stunning 18 hole course designed by Les Furber offers incredible views of Mara Lake. After your round, enjoy a cold drink on the clubhouse patio with sweeping views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

Sek’maws was ancestral lands of the Secwépemc for seasonal fishing and gathering as it was located in close proximity to higher hunting grounds. Learn more here: www.secwepemcmuseum.ca
Settlers came to the area with the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway as did many a prospector when gold was discovered on the Columbia River.
It was then that Sek'maws, meaning "waist" or "narrowing" became known as Sicamous by the settlers.
Access to the lake made Sicamous a natural port for shipping goods and passengers by paddlewheel steamers to other communities. The CPR built the Sicamous Hotel on the shores of Shuswap Lake reminiscent of the iconic Banff Springs. It was demolished in the mid-sixties.
After Mr. Moberly's discovery of the Eagle Pass, plans began to bring the Canadian Pacific Railway through the area. However, even though the pass was found in 1865, the railway line would not be completed until 1885. But this development changed life in the Eagle Valley and Sicamous area forever.
The building of the railway required large amounts of timber for bridges, railway ties and necessary buildings gave a boost to a growing lumber industry. Regular train service also opened up outside market
Before and during the construction of the C.P.R. a fleet of paddlewheel steamers traveling between Savona, Kamloops, Chase, Seymour Arm, Salmon Arm, Eagle Pass Landing, Sicamous and Enderby provided most of the transportation for people and freight. But with the completion of the railway and the building of roads, virtually all of the paddlewheelers disappeared.

One of my favourite things to do in Sicamous is take my bike down Old Town Road for lunch at the Old Town Bay Marina Pub. Then we'll bike back into town and play some mini golf at Lukies or take the ferry over to the rail trail.Sheena G

There's no shortage of fun to be had when you're living life lakeside.
Sicamous Beach Park is the perfect place to spend the day with friends and family. It’s a short walk from the town center where you can stock up on snacks and goodies.
For the early birds, it’s a great beach walk to start the day, and connects to a river trail for those who want to explore a little more.
A fairly shallow part of the lake, the Beach Park is ideal for swimming. As the sandbar builds up over the summer, the kids can enjoy some time giving skim-boarding a try.
Come the evening hours, it’s a perfect picnic spot to watch the sun settle in for the night. If it’s not too far past bedtime, on a clear night, it's a great place to star gaze and watch the Milky Way twinkle.

One of Sicamous's main pet-friendly amenities is the dog park located on the banks of the Eagle River - complete with a sandy beach.
This expansive area is a haven for dogs of all sizes to run, play, and fetch. The park's design includes shaded areas, water stations, and benches, ensuring both pets and their owners can enjoy the space comfortably for hours on end.

Our motto is “Live More”. We take a unique approach to our gardens, merging landscapes and art into active spaces where we can work, play, or just relax.
The lakes, mountains, forests, and streams of Sicamous serve as a spectacular backdrop for our lovely gardens and public spaces.
Local volunteers have taken an active role in making our downtown public spaces bloom, alongside Sicamous businesses who support and contribute to our aesthetic efforts. We've partnered with the Local Arts Council to include displays throughout our garden projects.

Our gardens also recognize our houseboating and railway history, helping to beautify local landmarks. Keep a look out for blooming sites at the Legion Cenotaph and grounds, the historic Red Barn, the Sicamous Beach Park , and Main Street Landing.

The Sicamous Heritage Walking Tour brings to life the rich history of Sicamous & the people that lived here and made the town what it is today.

The Sicamous Farmers' Market happens every Friday throughout the summer in the Sicamous Legion Parking Lot.

Outdoor enthusiasts can play an important role in reducing human caused fires.
Discarded cigarette butts, campfires, hot exhaust pipes coming into contact with dry grass and vegetation, power tools (such as chainsaws), candles or mosquito coils and even discarded glass can all ignite and start a wildfire.
It is important to be careful when in the outdoors, not only when enjoying a campfire or off-roading in the backcountry, but also in using tools and handling, storing and disposing of combustible materials and fuels.
FIREWORKS ARE NOT PERMITTED WITHIN THE DISTRICT OF SICAMOUS BOUNDARIES (BYLAW NO. 963). FIREWORKS AND EMBERS CAUSE FOREST FIRES.
Check current campfire restrictions for the area you are in.
Select your campsite and campfire location carefully.
Remove all leaves, twigs and other flammable material from the area around where you plan to light your campfire.
Never have a campfire when it’s windy or gusty.
Choose a proper fire pit, or make a ring of rocks at least three metres from trees, shrubs, structures and any debris.
Do not leave a campfire unattended for ANY amount of time, even if you are close by.
Keep a bucket of at least eight litres of water close by the fire at all times, and/or a hand tool (such as a shovel) to extinguish the fire properly.
Completely extinguish your campfire before you go to sleep or leave the area.
To extinguish your campfire, pour plenty of water on the fire and surrounding area, dousing the site of the campfire thoroughly. Stir the campfire until there are no embers and the ashes are cold to the touch.
Everything we love about the Shuswap - the clean water, beaches, enjoying leisure time on a boat or dock - is at risk due to the small invasive freshwater mussels called zebra and quagga mussels.
Zebra and quagga mussels would have devastating impacts in the Shuswap. The mussels grow and cling to anything below the surface including boat hulls, inside engine compartments, as well as on dock pilings, pipes, rocks, and more. Removing colonies of mussels from water intakes and treatment centres, hydro-electric facilities, irrigation systems and more would be an ongoing maintenance requirement. The cost of dealing with an infestation of zebra and quagga mussels is estimated at $64 - $129 million annually in BC.
Additionally, invasive zebra and quagga mussels pollute water quality through their filter-feeding, competing with native species for food, and putting the lake and drinking water at risk.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to eliminate zebra and quagga mussels once they establish in a lake as large and complex as Shuswap Lake. And, the mussels reproduce prolifically leading to massive infestations.
Measures must be taken to prevent spreading existing aquatic invasive species to other regions of the Shuswap or the province.
Invasive freshwater clams (also known as Golden or Pygmy Clam) occur in the Salmon Arm reach of Shuswap Lake. By practicing CleanDrain-Dry we can slow their spread to other parts of the lake.
Invasive freshwater clams are small triangular-shaped shellfish, usually less than 2.5 cm. They are golden brown or yellow-green in colour with distinctive growth rings. They have been used as food, fishing bait, and as aquarium species. They have the potential to cause harm to Shuswap Lake by impacting water quality, reducing biodiversity, and competing with native species for food and habitat.

If you are transporting a watercraft in B.C., you must stop and report to all invasive mussel watercraft inspection stations along your travel route.
Prevention is the only option and is of the utmost importance to protect Shuswap Lake and everything we love about it.
Zebra and quagga mussels move from one lake to another by attaching to watercraft, while their microscopic larvae can travel in any standing water.Therefore, boaters must take the following steps to avoid moving mussels from one waterbody to another:
STEP 1: Clean, drain, and dry your boat or watercraft and trailer every time you move it out of a lake or river. Clean off plants, mud, and clinging aquatic life from watercraft, trailers, and equipment such as waders and fishing gear. Drain bilge, ballast tanks and bags, baitwells, engine coolant system, and inflatable water toys onto dry land and mop up standing water with a chamois cloth. Ensure watercraft and equipment are dry before launching into another waterbody.
STEP 2: Stop at mandatory watercraft inspection stations when you travel with a watercraft. Inspection is mandatory for all watercraft including sport boats, kayaks and canoes, car-toppers, personal watercraft (Sea- Doos, etc.), paddleboards, and sailboats.
Stopping at an inspection station is free but failing to stop while transporting a watercraft carries a heavy fine.
If you’re visiting the Shuswap from outside of BC and did not have your boat or watercraft inspected, please phone the provincial RAPP line at 1-877-952-RAPP (7277) before you launch.
The Shuswap Watershed Council is a watershedbased partnership organization that works on water quality and safe recreation in the Shuswap.
