New West Moors Skatepark Launch Scores of skaters turned out in West Moors, at the launch party on Friday 15th October, to give our fantastic new Skatepark, the seal of approval. The event was celebrated by nearly 200 people including families, young and older individuals/groups, residents/non-residents (It was amazing to hear how far some had come to try the new skate park), council members, and park users of all ages and abilities. The turnout was proof of how much this community resource is important to a variety of people. It was bound to be a hit, as there was extensive consultation before doing the refurbishment, to ensure that Wishlist of many was catered for. Canvas - Skateparks and Public Spaces, who designed (with the help of the local skatepark user group) and built the skate park, entertained all, with music, competitions and West Moors Town Council generously sponsored lots of free pizza, provided by Pizza with Love. Keeping the party energised, was Golden Gate Coﬀee. The tricks that some of the young ones were doing, were extremely impressive. The atmosphere was electrifying.

Thanks must again go, to all the funders who made West Moors new Skatepark possible; Veolia Environmental Trust http://www.veoliatrust.org/ for their grant of £75,000, in early 2020, The National Lottery Community Fund with a grant of £75,985 in April 2021, The Leisure Development Fund at Dorset Council with £1,500 and Tesco Bags for Help- Groundwork for a £1,000 grant. Not forgetting the Council’s own reserved funds of £50,000. Thanks are also due to Mr Russell Kerr, our local voluntary First Responder, for providing ﬁrst aid cover, as he has done so for so many council events. Our thriving skate community has been enjoying the skatepark since 2003 when it was originally built. Now, with the sustainable new concrete replacement, we hope they enjoy it for many years to come. QUIRKY FACTS by Mica Bale As the nights have drawn in and autumn is on the cusp of being retired in favour of the winter weather, what could be better than enjoying a delve Dorset’s quirky facts from the comfort of your own armchair? From an interesting racehorse trainer to a fascinating connection to the Great Fire of London, here’s another handful of our beautiful; county’s quirkiest facts!

1 Sandbanks

has always been favoured for its iconic sandy form and slightly unorthodox start in life however did you know that one of Britain’s earliest female racehorse trainers, Louie Dingwall, was a resident of the area after the ﬁrst world war, falling in love with the then rugged and wild landscape? Dingwall originally lived in a sea hut and could regularly be seen training her horses on the beach. As well as becoming one of the ﬁrst female registered racehorse trainers, she and her husband did much to put Sandbanks on the map, providing transport services to the area. 8

Have you spotted the numerous ﬁngerpost signs around the county? More than just a delightful addition to the countryside and a lovely slice of the county’s history, ﬁngerpost signs have been an important part of Dorset’s landscape for generations. In fact, one such signpost, entitled Amen Corner is thought, according to the Dorset Rambler, to have been the site of an old chapel where Henry III once visited!

Did you know that there have been chess lovers in the county for millenia? In the small village of Witchampton, whale bone chess pieces were discovered dating as far back as the 11th century? These small ornate pieces of whalebone, sophisticated for their day, were found at the former manor house, now in ruins, and are now under the custody of the British Museum.

Were you aware that children’s book author Enid Blyton drew upon the pretty Dorset village of Stourton Caundle as inspiration for one of her most beloved books, Famous Five Go To Finniston Farm? In fact, Manor Farm in Stourton Caundle was actually owned by Blyton’s family during the 1950s and many of the farmhouse’s historic features are incorporated into the book, no doubt preserving them for generations.

Interestingly it was a Dorset local who helped to rebuild London following the Great Fire of 1666. Following the devastation in the capital, legal issues arose concerning lost properties and rights, largely concerning who was responsible to pay for each building lost. Sir Hugh Wyndham had a somewhat tarnished history that involved imprisonment following the Restoration before being pardoned by King Charles II. Largely owing to Wyndham’s prowess as a judge, his cases were settled quickly and allowed the city to be rebuilt as soon as materials could be found. Usually cases would stretch for weeks if not months however with Wyndham’s methods, London was able to recover promptly. ENJOY THIS FEATURE IN EVERY ISSUE!

Talking about Wildlife...

The Deceptive Cuttlefish The closest most people come to a cuttlefish is when their white ‘bones’ wash up on beaches after rough weather. These are the evolutionary remains of the animal’s shell, as cuttlefish are molluscs, relatives of the snails in your garden. Way back in the evolutionary past, their protective shell was internalised and then evolved into the cuttlefish bone, which is used to provide the animal with buoyancy in the sea. By regulating how much gas the bone contains they can move up or down in the water without having to expend energy on swimming. If you pick one up it feels light. Cuttlefish bones are not the only thing that makes this animal extraordinary. They are recognised as intelligent animals, indeed, research has shown that they can be more intelligent than cats and dogs. Capable of counting at an equivalent level as a 4 year old child, they can also solve puzzles, negotiate mazes and plan ahead. to get what they want – something that only a handful of species, including ourselves, are known to do. Cuttlefish communicate using the colours and patterns on their skin, which they can change instantaneously. This is especially used in courtship, when males compete for a female. Male cuttlefish have been filmed displaying female patterning on one side of their body (where a competing male can see it) whilst at the same time displaying to the female on their other side that he is an interested male. By deceiving the male cuttlefish into believing it is a female and therefore no threat, it avoids a physical battle, whilst at the same time giving the female his ‘come hither’ signals. While divers regularly encounter and interact with cuttlefish in our coastal waters, most people do not have the opportunity to meet these most interesting of animals. However at the Fine Foundation Wild Seas Centre in Kimmeridge Bay, Dorset Wildlife Trust had a baby cuttlefish in its aquarium. It is one that washed ashore as an egg and subsequently hatched in the aquarium where it grew rapidly ready for release last year. Fundraising for Community Deﬁbrillator

St Anthony’s RC Church,, 8 Pinehurst Rd,, West Moors,, BH22 0AP We are raising awareness and funds to install a defibrillator outside the Church in a heated locked cabinet but fully available for anyone to use 24/7. More than 130,000 people in the UK, suffer from a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year and if a defibrillator is administered within the first minute of collapse, survival rate can be as high as 90%. This is vital in helping save lives in our community and the life-saving equipment will be available to anyone, whatever the time of day. The unit will provide visual and voice prompts enabling people with no training to provide what could be life-saving assistance. Every minute that passes without defibrillation or CPR, survival rates reduce. This is more important bearing in mind the average time for an ambulance to arrive can be up to ten minutes. They definitely save lives and the need for them has never been more obvious. Readers will recall hearing the terrible news that Christian Eriksen had suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed during the Euro match against Finland. The football team doctor revealed a defibrillator was used to restart his heart and he got him back after one defib. More recently a supporter at the Newcastle and Tottenham game collapsed and the on-site medical professionals swiftly administered emergency treatment using a defibrillator located close to the incident. The supporter was awake and able to converse upon being transported to hospital. 18

Welcome to the November Stargazing Page. Highlights this month include the return of Mercury to our morning skies, and how to ﬁnd the farthest object visible with the naked eye. International Space Station The ISS can be spotted from the 1st - 9th early in the morning. It then moves to our evening skies from the 20th and is visible between the very respectable hours of 5.30pm – 7.30pm. To establish exact timings please refer to www.heavens-above.com or a similar webpage for up-to-date information, remembering to set the location to your observing area.

Continued... Although the Andromeda Galaxy is best viewed under a dark, moonless sky, it is still visible under moderately light polluted skies. Use the ﬁgure to help ﬁnd it with the naked eye, and if not clearly visible try with binoculars or a small telescope. (Those of you with keen eyesight and very dark skies might be able to spot the Triangulum Galaxy, which is even further away). Look to the east around 6.30pm throughout November. Find Cassiopeia and the Square of Pegasus quite high in the sky, and use these and the brighter stars in the constellation of Andromeda to locate the galaxies. They will look like small smudges against the dark sky. Try to avoid searching if a bright moon phase is present.

Mercury Mercury is visible for the ﬁrst half of November, but you’ll have to be up just before dawn and have a clear view to the east as it doesn’t venture far above the horizon. Venus Venus is still visible in our evening skies low in the southwest, but is setting around 6.30pm. Our neighbour planet appears close to a slender crescent Moon on the 7th and 8th (see ﬁgure). If you have a small telescope Venus will appear ‘half-full’ this month, and is waning to a crescent. Mars The red planet is currently very faint and only just visible before dawn. On the 11th it lies just to the right of much brighter Mercury. Jupiter & Saturn As the sun sets both gas giants are visible in the south. They have disappeared below the horizon by mid to late evening. Moon This month’s full moon occurs on the 19th November and is traditionally known by a variety of names, including Beaver, Frost, Freezing, and Scratching Full Moon. The total lunar eclipse on the 19th is not visible from the UK as it begins as the Moon is setting. Object of the Month November presents a great opportunity to spot the farthest object visible to the naked eye. In fact, it’s not just one object, but several – a whole galaxy in fact! The Andromeda Galaxy is located 2.5 million light years from Earth and is our closest neighbouring major galaxy. It is larger than the Milky Way, containing twice the number of stars. Both galaxies are due to merge in about 4.5 billion years.

Understanding Investments: Inheritance Tax & the Confidence to Act! The first step to effective Inheritance Tax (IHT) mitigation is to know how much money you need for your own lifetime. Once you have identified this, you will have more confidence to act and take action. I have met many people over the years who know they need to do something to reduce the value of their estate as they don’t want to pay a high IHT bill, but they fail to act in good time. It wasn’t because they weren’t aware of IHT (often they had been thinking about what to do for years), but they simply failed to have the confidence to act! I help clients by following a simple process, at the end of which they understand whether their own retirement and lifetime needs are secure and if so, are able to put in place a plan of how to mitigate future IHT on their estate. I will share this with you. 1. What do you need? We run cashflow projections (including inflation assumptions), based on your regular expenditure, predicted ad-hoc expenditure and later life planning needs such as care fees. 2. Identify surplus capital or income. The cash-flow projections help identify whether you have more capital or income that you are likely to need. We quantify what is surplus and consider the most effective way to pass this down to your families and reduce your future IHT liability. 3. Ensure Wills are up to date and tax efficient. This is done by referral to a solicitor and includes ensuring they allow the estate to benefit from all relevant IHT exemptions, including the Residential Nil Rate Band (RNRB), where available. 4. Utilise annual gift exemptions. Usually you need to live for a further 7

years from the date of any gifts but there are Howard Goodship currently several exemptions which result in immediate removal from the estate. 5. Solutions to mitigate your estate’s IHT liability. Potentially Exempt Transfers (PET), Chargeable Lifetime Transfers (CLT), Trusts, packaged solutions such as Loan Trusts and Discounted Gift Trusts. There are a number of solutions available and the most appropriate will be dependent on your personal situation. 6. Insuring any remaining liability. Whole of Life cover can pay a future IHT liability and if written in trust, is paid out immediately without the need for probate. It can provide liquidity to the beneficiaries to pay any IHT liability. Sometimes, making simple changes to your current investments and planning is sufficient. For example, pensions are currently outside the estate so perhaps to stop drawing income from them and spend surplus savings instead may be favourable. We are able to do this in a variety of ways, taking account of any current COVID restrictions. A Design for Life… The Kevin McCloud Column Designer, writer and television presenter, Kevin McCloud leapt into our consciousness with his vastly successful Grand Designs show on Channel 4. This month, the affable architect discusses the importance of buildings in terms of who we are as people. I’ve always regarded buildings as living, breathing, evolving things, and while you can judge each and every one architecturally, sometimes the real fabric of a home, an office, a shop, a theatre – whatever it may be – is in the people and personalities who inhabit it. It’s always interesting with Grand Designs when we revisit buildings several years down the line to see how they have grown and merged into their environments. When a project is freshly completed there is always an element of buildings appearing clinical and, I guess, unhomely. I would even suggest that a scuffed skirting board or lightly scratched wooden floor adds personality to a space, so we should all be encouraged to enjoy our homes, to throw ourselves around in them, without fear of losing that show home chic. It’s funny, I remember one of the first projects we did, down in

Brighton. I went back after 12 or 13 years and discovered that the kids who were five or so were now these strapping 18-year-olds and heading off to university, while this ‘house’ was truly transformed into a home. In other projects we revisited, we had many people who had started projects effectively homeless, or as single parents,

a local councillor, or perhaps they are sitting on the board of a housing association, all giving back to the community. For me, that shows that in the right circumstances when you’re given the chance to build (which is an empowering process) and to experience living in great architecture, it leads to people’s lives changing for the better. It’s no coincidence and I see this all the time; and I love that because it vindicates so much of what I’d felt and believed about buildings for so long.

The Adventures of Daichi

The Modern Magazines Camper Van The Jurassic era, an age of reptiles. A time of abundant dinosaurs and the advent of birds and mammals. It all started approximately 200 million years ago and ended around 145 million years ago with widespread volcanic eruptions and the release of so much CO2 that the oceans became acidic, and the global warming killed off 76 percent of marine and terrestrial life on Earth. Many plants however survived including the ferns we see today, horsetails, cypress, pines and many other species of our beloved greenery we so enjoy. Daichi is a big fan of our British Jurassic Coast. He loves to wind around those country lanes and end up at the sea looking out into the far distance. This month he took us to a real Dorset beauty spot. Ringstead Bay off the small village of Ringstead. The beach here is very different to the majestic

sandy, warm beach in Weymouth just 8 miles away. This is a covelike beach, more like you find in Devon or Cornwall. It is pebbly and has painted wooden rowing boats waiting patiently in their upsidedown position near the wall. I love sandy beaches, but this was pretty special, and the water was crystal clear and inviting. Daichi had found this glorious, secluded place by chance in fact, as we were just exploring, following roads we thought looked interesting. Daichi likes to do this. On a warmer day, it would have been ideal for a picnic and a swim. It is such a sheltered, cozy bay. Today it was enough to take in the view and relax. The Isle of Portland, looking very grand, is in clear sight. There is a café with seating outside and a parking area which is really convenient so I am sure in the height of summer it is buzzing with excitement and

activity. The day we arrived it was quiet and peaceful. Ideal for gazing out to sea and breathing in the fresh, cooler autumn air. Perfect. After a little exploration Daichi took us onto Osmington Mills just five miles from the town of Weymouth. Here there is a ‘chocolate box’ thatched pub and restaurant, The Smugglers Inn. Beautiful. The views from the cliff top here are both exhilarating and extremely calming at the same time. That first, incredible, panoramic scene over the sea, the cliffs, the bay, the rocks and huge ocean liners bobbing around (a reminder of our trials and tribulations of today), took Daichi’s breath away. Can you imagine being a massive dinosaur lugging that heavy body and long neck across this land and swinging your neck out to sea where there are huge fish swirling around in the waters below. This area sparks that imagination, that long-gone sight of yesteryears. The walks around the whole coastline look inspiring and the next time we go there we will be wearing hiking boots and will be

taking a stroll for sure. The beaches are dog friendly too, so for anyone with a four-legged, active friend, they can take the stroll with you. This whole 96-mile Jurassic coastline, which stretches from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset is just gorgeous. There is so much to explore. Thousands and thousands of years of history. Changing climates, reptiles now extinct, fish are much smaller, and humans have taken over. What a different planet it is today. Somehow for Daichi it puts the problems of now, into a different perspective. Maybe we should take some of those problems less seriously, throw caution to the wind a bit more, argue a little less and laugh much more. Daichi certainly likes to make us smile and I have to say he does a great job! Where will he take us next, I wonder…?

Wessex Cancer Trust, a charity dedicated to providing free emotional and wellbeing support for anyone living with cancer throughout Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight is asking local people to complete a survey on what they most need from non-medical cancer support. The charity wants to hear from anyone who has any type of cancer at any stage, families and friends aﬀected by cancer or anyone who has a job or other interest in cancer services. Questions include the kind of worries and fears people experience from diagnosis to recovery, how non-medical support should be delivered, the quality and availability of support, and the accessibility of information and advice about diﬀerent types of cancer.

West Moors Dementia Group Before the Covid 19 pandemic there was a small group of local West Moors residents who had got together with the aim of making West Moors a dementia friendly village. The vision was to encourage local businesses, groups, care homes and shops to become more aware of dementia and how it can effect people that they may be in contact with. One of the successes was a collaboration with Sturts Farm who were able to provide some land so that those with dementia and their carers could get together and enjoy gardening and outdoor space. We are hoping that we can get residents to step forward and volunteer to become part of a working party to restart the Dementia Friendly programme and that local businesses will be part of this too. Casting a Spell We look back on the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, 20 years ago. It’s two decades since one of the most sought-after movies in the modern era filled cinemas, reassured millions of avid fans of fantasy fiction that a character on a big screen really could live up to the image portrayed in literature, and scored Warner Bros. the first of seven wickedly wonderful wizard box office smashes. The distributor had bought the rights to JK Rowling’s first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, for a cool £1m two years previously, quickly setting to work with director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves to make good a character who had enchanted fans on both sides of the Atlantic. The movie opened in the UK on 10th November 2001, and would go on to gross over £900m

in becoming the second most successful movie of all time. The revolution that followed single parent JK Rowling in the publishing world – to date over 500 million copies have been sold worldwide – is actually put in the shadow, if that is possible, by the success of the movie franchise. The Warnerheaded outlay in lead stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and a whole host of supporting icons, such as Robbie Coltrane, John Hurt and Alan Rickman, paid back in ways more monstrous than even a Voldemort spell, and to date the films have grossed an incredible £7.7billion. Such was the weight of expectation over the first film release in November 2001 that teaser posters had started appearing the previous December. And on the night of the premiere, the Odeon in Leicester Square was decked out to resemble Hogwarts School. Of course, as we well know, from that

moment on the die had been cast. Rowling, eventually, would conclude matters with The Deathly Hallows in 2007, and by the time the film version put to rest the journey of the marvellous wizard and his cohorts four years later, it was clear the fantasy fiction market would never be the same again. The Philosopher’s Stone courted rich acclaim from allcomers, and was nominated for three Oscars – Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design and Best Original Film Score. It might be noted that perhaps it was the youthfulness of its main characters – Radcliffe was just 11 when filming began – that kept it away from the top awards; though acclaim in universal audience admiration will always cast the greater spell, something of which Potter himself would be proud.

Greenfingers… the Alan Titchmarsh column He’s a brilliant presenter, accomplished gardener, talented novelist and all-round horticultural inspiration. This month, Alan Titchmarsh talks about getting our youngsters involved in gardening projects. I started gardening when I was nine or ten. I made a little greenhouse, tidied edges, mowed the lawn and sowed seeds, which then came up. When I had that little bit of success, it emboldened me to take cuttings and do more, and it all went on from there. To be honest I was obsessed with all things nature - frogs, toads, insects… and the garden is the nearest bit of natural history to us, so I always felt comfortable there and I still do, although I’m not sure the young generation have quite the same connection with the outdoors. In recent years I’ve worked with the Royal Horticultural Society in campaigns for school gardening, and we’ve had over 30,000 schools involved. Particularly at primary level if we can, literally, sow the seed when children are young, get them connected with the earth rather than disconnected and fearful, it will mean we are investing in the future custodians of the landscape. To me, it’s vitally important we

pass on our joy and knowledge. When I was a boy, Percy Thrower presented a programme called Gardening Club on a Friday night – this was way before Gardener’s World. He, along with a junior schoolteacher of mine, Harry Rhodes – who used to sell cacti at the church bazaar – were great inspirations. Indeed, my ﬁrst plants came from Harry. Before he died, he saw me building a career, and one of life’s great delights was knowing that Harry witnessed this little lad he had encouraged to garden getting on, and doing alright. It was an unusual thing for a small boy to be interested in, therefore when you see a young gardener showing a keen interest, you always want to fan the ﬂame. I’m now doing what Percy and Mr Rhodes did.

Of course as you get older, the way you use a garden changes. Just as when I was a boy it was a place of discovery and play, now it’s more a thing of art, beauty and quiet contemplation. What undoubtedly links my present self with that nine-yearold version of me, is stimulation, and that has never changed in all the years I’ve spent outdoors planting this, trimming that. And that’s what’s there for the younger generation. That’s why I feel we should do our utmost to engage young people in the glory of our gardens and outside spaces. With all the other distractions they have nowadays, it feels more important than ever.

The Racing Line The achievements of three F1 families – the Rosbergs, the Hills and the Villenueves. The Hills - When Damon Hill won his world title at the relatively grand age of 36 – although a huge 10 years shy of 46-year-old Juan Manuel Fangio’s 1957 triumph – the Hampstead-born man became the ﬁrst son of an F1 champion to emulate his father.

1997 F1 Championship and then finishing 2nd as part of the Team Peugeot Total outfit at Le Mans in 2008. Although his father Gilles didn’t win the F1 Championship, Championship for Williams Racing – despite securing only one race victory that season. He also retired from three races and was disqualified from another.

Graham Hill won in both 1962 and 1968, but is best remembered for winning the Triple Crown of motorsport – the F1 World Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Indianapolis 500. However, this has been updated to include the Monaco Grand Prix, which Hill won ﬁve times. Hill Sr. was unfortunately not able to see his son lift that title in 1996 – he died in a plane crash in 1975 along with ﬁve other members of the Embassy Hill F1 team he set up. The Villeneuves - Canadian Jacques Villeneuve fell agonisingly short of matching that Triple Crown record after winning the 1995 Indy 500, the

Rosberg’s son Nico spent seven years at Mercedes and it was his last which was the most successful, finally able to wrest the title from Lewis Hamilton in 2016 before promptly retiring! He managed nine race wins in that season and a secondplace finish in the last race at Abu Dhabi. When he quit the sport as reigning champion, he became the first to do so since the legendary French F1 driver Alain Prost 23 years earlier.

Art auction raises more than £100,000 for Dorset charity Pictures for The Beehive, a contemporary art exhibition hosted at the home of the Earl and Countess of Shaftesbury, has raised more than £100,000 for Diverse Abilities Splash Appeal, which will go towards the building of a hydrotherapy pool for people with profound disabilities. The two-day exhibition and subsequent auction of works took place in the autumn sunshine at St. Giles House, Wimborne St. Giles. The exhibition culminated in an elegant party, at the end of which the 29 donated works were auctioned by Guy Schwinge of Duke’s. Including artists such as Antony Gormley, Maggi Hambling, Paula Rego, and Catherine Goodman, the exhibited works spanning a range of media, raised over £84,000 at auction. Other proceeds collected through the sale of tickets, a raffle, donations and souvenir postcards took the total to well over £100,000. Henrietta Young, curator and artist, commented: “We were delighted with the interest shown in this wide ranging and exciting show, delighted with the fantastic sum we raised at the auction – thank to the enthusiasm, expertly kindled by Mr. Schwinge, of the bidders – but really delighted that so many more people now know, and care, about The Beehive, the excellent work done there, and the acute need for this pool. This is only the start!” Helen Mortimer, development manager at Diverse Abilities, continued: “All of us at Diverse Abilities have been overwhelmed with the support of artists, volunteers and those who have bid. The hard work and generosity of all these people made this possible and has taken us a huge leap closer to building a therapy pool.” This event restarts the fundraising process for The Splash Appeal, following a brief hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The £1million appeal seeks to raise funds to build a hydrotherapy pool

for adults with disabilities in Dorset. Artist Amy Shuckburgh added: “I was delighted to be asked to donate a picture to this charity and for such a worthwhile cause. The work I donated is part of a series exploring my experience of caring for children and seemed an appropriate piece to offer for the auction. One of my children has learning difficulties and this series on motherhood began as a way of processing and celebrating the particular challenge of caring for a child with special needs. The term special needs has a bitter-sweet ring to it, and in any context, however ‘special’ the needs, caring can be the hardest job and also the most rewarding.” The exhibition also featured portraits and drawings of those who attend The Beehive, and it is the charity’s hope that this work can tour in a bid to raise awareness and increase the visibility of those with disabilities. This touring exhibition will be sponsored by Charles Stanley Wealth Managers. Tear ‘n’ Share Sweet Bread Introduction

Although not a traditional festive-themed bake, sweetbreads do tend to come into the ascendancy during the winter months, and this tear ‘n’ share loaf will not only offer a soft, lightly sweetened and buttery bread treat – delicious as toast or as a bigger accompaniment to an evening meal – it’s also sociable and fun. Top it with some butter, jam or even icing, and serve.

Ingredients

(serves four)

1 cup warm milk 2 tsp active dried yeast 3 cups all-purpose ﬂour 1/3 cup granulated sugar 4 egg yolks 2 tbsp sour cream 1 tbsp vanilla extract 3 oz unsalted butter, softened, room temperature 1/4 tsp kosher salt Egg wash (whisk together) 1 egg yolk 1 tbsp water 3 to 4 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
