Dear West Moors!

I cannot believe it is November already. Really this year has flown by like never before. I am sure Hayden our 6 year old son wouldn’t agree with me, so I guess I must be getting on a bit!

The new kittens which were born last month are truly gorgeous. Lydia, the Mum has been a delight to watch. One day the little black and white kitten, named Fifi by Hayden, tried to make a bee line for the door to go outside. Lydia looked at her and gave her a right talking to, looking at the door then turning to the kitten. It was quite amazing to see. Needless to say, Fifi turned around and went straight back into the room. Maybe I can learn from her! Well we have a great West Moors Directory for you this month, with dinner offers for the Christmas season appro aching, e lectricians, hairdre sse rs, bathrooms, beauty treatments in fact you name it and I am sure you will find the right person to help you. Memorial Hall Car Park The Memorial Hall Charity has recently had the hall car park resurfaced at a cost of £24,800.

Usage of the facility increased when, at the parents request, Dorset County Council (DCC) introduced a crossing patrol linking the car park with St. Mary’s First School opposite. Unfortunately DCC have been unable to provide any funding to compensate for the wear that around 40 extra vehicles inflicts upon the car park surface twice daily.

The Hall Council is obliged by the Charity Commission to obtain full value from those who use the facilities and so the Hall Council took the decision to request a donation of £10 per year from those using the car park as part of the school run. They respectfully ask those parents who have not yet made their contribution to please do so by way of cheque or cash and hand this to the Hall representative who attends the site from time to time. Vehicle registration numbers are being recorded to avoid bothering drivers who forget to display the badge which is issued upon payment.

West Moors Library Update We have started a Stop Smoking drop in session every Tuesday evening 5.30pm6.30pm on a one-to-one basis for those people who need help to give up smoking.

No appointment necessary.

We currently have some vacancies on the free computer classes that we hold on a Monday morning at the library - for more details phone us on 01202 873272.

Rhyme time has moved from a Tueday afternoon to a Friday morning 10.30am11.00am fortnightly - all youngsters between the ages of 6 months to 3 years are very welcome. Storytime still runs on a Thursday afternoon 2.30pm-3.00pm fortnightly.

WEST MOORS FLOWER GROUP We are a very friendly flower club who meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10.00am in the West Moors Memorial Hall.

Our next meeting is on November 17th when Irene Hickson is the demonstrator, her title is "MY FLORAL YEAR" and the competition is entitled "MY FAVOURITE CONTAINER".

Visitors and new members are very welcome, tea/coffee will be served in the interval.

WAGGY TAILS RESCUE, is a registered charity based in Ferndown. They rescue and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, neglected or otherwise in need of a good home.

Our Autumn Orphan this month is ROSCOE Roscoe is a very pretty 3 year old Border Collie who was, believe it or not, ABANDONDED by his owners. They left him in kennels when they went on holiday and never returned, so eventually the kennels gave him to Waggy Tails! He has a lovely nature and is well behaved. He has had lots of training and ‘sits’ and gives his paw on command. He will need a mature home, where he can be given lots of physical and mental stimulation. He will then make a superb companion.

With Christmas just around the corner, we’d like to help with shopping dilemmas! For the second year running we have produced our own Christmas Cards featuring our rescue dogs, and they are on sale in all our shops. Then, for presents, why not make a donation on behalf of your friend/relative, and they will receive a festive thankyou…or you could sponsor a dog on their behalf (see www.waggytails.org.uk for more info).

AND don’t forget to visit our Christmas Fair at the Barrington Centre, Penny’s Walk, Ferndown on Saturday 20th November from 9.30am to noon. Free entry and lots of fabulous prizes to win, plus gifts for 2 and 4 legged friends.

1500 Local People Can’t Be Wrong Moors Valley Country Park near Ringwood has succeeded in getting over 1500 people involved in exercise in just 18 months. Set up in June 2009, Activate 1000 aims to encourage people to undertake 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise at least 3 days a week, in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The programme is now half way through its three year funding, which is primarily provided by Sport England. It currently offers over 15 different and exciting outdoor activities, which take place at Moors Valley Country Park, Colehill, Ferndown, Verwood, Wimborne and West Moors.

One of the activities run by Activate 1000 is an innovative Buggy Fitness Walk.

These weekly fitness walks offer both parent and child the opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise in the beautiful countryside. As well as a walk around the Park, the sessions also include some more strenuous exercises such as short runs, stomach exercises and leg lunges. Gemma and her nine month old son regularly go on the Buggy Fitness

Walks. Gemma said, ‘My family don’t live close to me so these walks are really convenient as you don’t have to find alternative child care.’

Karl Prince, Healthy Lifestyle Ranger at Moors Valley Country Park, explained that back in 2007 a new activity was set up – Health Walks. ‘These walks took off really quickly and were hugely popular,’ said Karl. ‘We quickly realised that there was a niche in the market for activities like this and set out to raise funding to create and develop our own programme.’ The scheme now offers activities for everyone regardless of age or ability.

Activate 1000 has so far exceeded expectations and there are high hopes for the future. Karl said, ‘We hope to expand the activities that are already available to make them accessible for even more people.’

Local Success in National Competition Inner Strength Martial Arts Academy National success at the F.E.K.O National Karate Championships.

Local girl Sophie Clark from West Moors who is only 7yrs old won gold in the under 7's category and local boy Christopher White from Ferndown won gold in the under 12yrs over 55kg category with Thomas Newcombe and Jason North securing 2nd and 3rd place in the under 15’s category.

All were for sparring and they all represented our academy really well and I’m very pleased with their hard work.
