Dear Neighbours, Well we needed some rain but I think we got more than we bargained for! I’d like a little sunshine again now. I think you will agree. Stephen and I thoroughly enjoyed a great evening out at the West Moors Memorial Hall watching the West Moors Drama Society a couple of weeks ago. Please see our short article on page 14. All good fun! There’s lots of local information this month, particularly the Jubilee Celebrations coming up in June. Lots to support in the village and a great excuse to let your hair down. Please take a look. I am also looking for local people’s celebrations so that we can all wish you Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary or drool over the photo of your new baby. See page 32 for the data on this. It will be a new feature in our next issue and could be a great way to wish someone a Happy Day! Also if you have a group or club you would like everyone to know more about please email your data to us. There may be many people who would love to know about you or can give some help. West Moors Drama A long established and friendly amateur theatre group producing light comedy and mysteries at West Moors Memorial Hall twice yearly. The latest production from West Moors Drama was the hilarious comedy entitled “Holiday Snap” by Michael Pertwee & John Chapman, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Set in a “double-booked” timeshare, the talented cast kept us in stitches at times in a play where nothing was ever quite what it seemed! Tom Martin’s performance as Commander “Chitto” Chittenden was of particular note. Having also enjoyed previous productions, it was good to see the “regular” members in action again. But it was also nice to see some less familiar faces in the line up. The professionalism of the acting, the great set and what must have been a significant amount of work backstage all made for a great evening’s entertainment. Congratulations on another fine production and we look forward to seeing the next!

So why do we need to design our gardens? Don’t they just evolve over a period of time & fit like a comfortable pair of old slippers? Well, yes in many cases they do, but if we move house we might inherit a garden that’s not particularly to our taste or our own garden may start to look tired, the shrubs get woody and overgrown, trees get too big, fences start to rot and the paving begins to lift. As we go through life our tastes and needs change, we still need an attractive garden to enjoy but we might not want to spend as much time on maintenance and looking after it. We might want swap the climbing frame and goal posts for a vegetable patch, summer house or Japanese style garden Nowadays gardens are an important part of our homes and we tend to make more use of them for different functions and not only that well designed attractive gardens can add value to your property and definitely make you feel better. However, planning restrictions on areas such as paving the front drives, building garden

summerhouses, pruning or removing trees that have outgrown their size have to be considered. New fencing or hedges may affect our neighbours and our very unreliable climate can make it difficult to select plants that will thrive well in all weathers. So by having a good set of drawings and planting plans you can set about actually revolutionising your garden. You might want to do it yourself in different stages; employ a garden landscaper (in which case a good set of drawings for them to follow will help ensure you get what you want) or I am happy to oversee the whole project for you. Whichever way you look at it a well designed garden with the right layout and proportions of hard landscaping and planting can greatly enhance your property, give you much pleasure and not extra work in maintaining it. WEST MOORS ART SOCIETY A friendly group of artists meet in the West Moors Memorial Hall on Monday mornings with a demonstration given by a professional artist on the second Monday of each month. Untutored workshops take place on all other Mondays when members will help each other if advice is requested. Do come to join us. You will be very welcome. There will be a coffee morning/fun workshop on Monday May 14th. Why not come. On June 11th Graham Oliver will be giving a demonstration in Pastel with the title "Developing Landscapes".

WEST MOORS FLOWER GROUP We are a very friendly flower club who meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 10.00am in the West Moors Memorial Hall. Visitors and new members are very welcome, tea/coffee will be served in the interval. On May 16th there will be a demonstration by Denise Bright entitled “Just for You”. On June 20th there will be a demonstration by Carole Norman entitled ”A Seed was Sown”. We are very keen to encourage our members to use their abilities and on the 4th Wednesday of every month we have 'Fun with Flowers', when anyone who would like to join us can come along and make a beautiful arrangement to take home. We extend an invitation to the elderly residents in West Moors to come to the Wednesday Club at St. Anthony’s Church Hall. All new members are welcome for lunch and friendship. We have been established for 37 years. You will be served a cooked two course meal with coffee or tea. There will also be afternoon games or entertainment followed by tea or coffee for those wishing to stay. Please call Joan for all the information on 891519.
COUNTRY AND WESTERN EVENING SATURDAY 2nd JUNE 7.30pm AT WEST MOORS MEMORIAL HALL WITH LIVE MUSIC FROM NEON MOON In aid of St. Mary's Church West Moors An evening of music and dancing and an opportunity to learn some Line dancing, led by Rosemarie Wealsh from West Moors Line Dancing Group. This takes place during the Diamond Jubilee weekend so if you want to wear Union Jack bowler hats, waistcoats, something in red white or blue or country and western outfits please do and make it a colourful occasion. The bar at the Memorial Hall will be open to buy drinks or you can bring your own drinks and glasses. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be served in the interval.
