#StringerLearning@HOME Student Work Gallery - Edition 6 Dear Parents and Carers, This weeks’ #SL@H gallery is a celebration of the creativity and imagination so many of our students have shown over the last few months. There is no doubt that this new way of teaching and learning has been a complex challenge for us all. However, many of our students have enjoyed having time to focus on the things they love. The creative arts have always flourished at Dorothy Stringer and I’m sure you’ll agree this has continued in lockdown. In this weeks’ publication you will see some wonderful examples of remote learning submitted to drama, art and music teachers – it has brought us great joy to look at and listen to this superb work. Take care, Liz Uren Deputy Head Teacher
ART DEPARTMENT We continue to be delighted at the creativity and skill demonstrated from students across all year groups. I think everyone has enjoyed the animal combinations, particularly where family pets have been incorporated into the most extraordinary creatures. Year 10 have produced beautiful sketchbook work across all disciplines of Fine Art, Graphics, Textiles and Photography. The diversity of the work and the range of materials used has amazed us all. Below is a selection of the work produced acroos all year groups.

DRAMA DEPARTMENT Below are some brilliant #StringerLearning@Home pieces of work submitted to the Drama department.
Students were set the challenge of creating a Trestle Mask. Below are a couple of examples.
Below are some scripts written by drama students.
The ice-cream incident. Characters: Jess, James, Alex. (Jess and James enter the kitchen, squabbling aggressively). Jess: (angrily) It’s all your fault! James: (annoyed) Well, it would have never happened if you hadn’t left it out! (Aggressively screaming, Jess then stamps her foot on the ground, clearly very annoyed.) Jess: You are the worst brother ever! (James wails loudly.) Jess: (confused and annoyed.) What now? (Jess, trying not to show her anger, walks up to
The King’s Chamber Act 3, Scene 2 (A man adorned in a striking robe storms on from stage left, trailed by his advisor, who is dressed in noticeably more modest yet formal attire.) Castor: (Comes to a halt and spins round to face Agust) It’s all your fault! Agust: (Stepping back and bowing) But Your Highness, I did not know, I swear! Castor: (His voice rising) Did you not see what he was holding?! Agust: (Anxiously) Your Majesty, I am unsure to whom you are referring? Castor: (Advancing on Agust) The boy, you fool! The boy from the furthest village. Agust: (Quivering) He is to die tomorrow, what is there to be concerned about, Your Majesty? Castor: (Voice drops) What he held was like nothing I have seen before. Tomorrow before he dies by the sword, I want to know everything about
James.) Jess: Look, what’s up? (Jess says this a lot more camly.) (James, taking a deep breath, calms down.) James: It’s just... I never ate your ice cream. (Jess, taking a step back, is bewildered.) Jess: (Stuttering) T-Then who...? (Alex now calmly walks in, ice-cream dotted on his face.) Alex: Hey, what’s up? Jess: (Enraged) YOU ATE MY ICE CREAM! (Alex, now very scared, runs out the kitchen, Jess hot on his trail. James however, is laughing his head off.)
that object. Agust: But Your Majesty what is it that concerns you so much? A mere commoner cannot prevent the rise of your dynasty. Castor: (Look directly into Agust’s eyes. Laughs.) As the king I have everything in the palm of my hand, and I must let it fall from my grasp. In other words, the New Age must not come upon us by any word or dead other than my own. That boy has the potential to overthrow my rule, but I will make sure there is no possibility of him taking what is mine. Agust: (Timidly) So you are saying it is a weapon?... Castor: I assume so. If that is true, I must not let word of it reach the rest of my people. They will flock to it like moths to a flame… Agust: Understood Your Majesty. I will ensure no further rumours are spread. Castor: Do what you must. Now leave immediately. (Agust bows and exits stage left. Lights go off.)
CREATE A FAMILY TABLEAU Students were tasked to create a 5 tableaux involving people in their home inspired by a famous movie. Below are a couple of brilliant examples.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT Most of Stringer’s Music lessons are centred around performance and practical based activities, creativity being the key to students learning. This has continued in various forms during remote learning as we continue to remain at home.
After many amazing protest songs, our Year 7 and Year 8 have embarked on designing their own video games and composing music for them. Here is an example of one of our Year 8 students who composed this simple, yet effective theme tune for her video game.
Year 8 Video Theme Tune Click here to listen Here is another fantastic example of a video game theme tune by a Year 8 student. I am sure you would agree there is fantastic use of electronic instrumental timbres which cleverly incorporate vocal samples to enhance the overall recording.

Our Year 9 Music students have been composing their own songs, some of their lyrics are very powerful and meaningful. This one, ‘A Day Out’, reflects on the good times prior to lockdown when we were free to meet up with friends and enjoy those treasured moments.
A Day Out Verse Just waking up in the morning at 12 o’clock, I don’t know but today feels kinda odd, The Sun’s shining bright, The weather’s a delight, And the music that I’m playing feels so right, Everything’s going well. I pick up my skateboard and go down to The Level My friends are there in abundance, And when I’m skating, I don’t fall on my bum once, I think today’s one of those days, I think today is a fun day. Chorus We have no stress at all, Just fun, Just chilling with my friends in the Sun, And if we get in trouble, It doesn’t matter, We’ll sort it out together. Verse Jumping in the sea with no worries, And we aren’t getting out in any hurry, Everyone’s got a smile on their face, And everything is falling into place, We lie on the beach for a while, And as the Sun sets, We talk about all kinds of subjects, These are the days we look back on, These are the days where we had fun.
Here is another set of topical lyrics from a Year 9 student, titled the ‘Afterparty’. This one talks about meeting up with friends again and enjoying their party for as long as they wish.
Afterparty Verse 1: The twists and the turns and the screeching halts, Whoops someone died I guess that’s their fault, I wonder what happened in their book, Skin turns blue crossed eyes still. Pre-chorus: Leaves turn brown rocks will break, These things change so why can’t we. Chorus: Come to the afterparty that’s where we finish this movie, Put your daydreams aside leave your nightmares in your mind, Come to the afterparty, Everyone will reveal their story, Their fires and their flights it might take a while, But don’t worry we’ve got all night, Come for the afterparty. Verse 2: Show us a bit of your story, A trailer for the masses, Tell us about yourself, What’s your name? What’s your stature? Shallow facts to keep us sane. Bridge: We’ll have a ball, Just don’t tag along, The future is wild, But tonight’s on your side, Tonight, will never end.
