Dorothy Stringer School - Artists Open House 2021 Year 10 Art - Still Life After studying still life artists such as Cotán, Morandi and Wayne Thiebaud, students set up their own scenes while exploring photography & lighting. On a prepared and textured cardboard base students recreated their tableau using acrylic paint. Our year 10s became really absorbed in their paintings achieving these stunning results.

Dorothy Stringer School - Artists Open House 2021 Year 10 Textiles - Coast Textile students responded to the theme ‘Coast’ through experimenting with bonding materials and using machine and hand stitch. Local shorelines were an inspiration and also brought attention to the issue of plastic pollution through their work.

Dorothy Stringer School - Artists Open House 2021 Year 10 Photography - Film Posters & Exploring Shadows
Students were asked to produce a film poster for the classic 1947 version of Brighton Rock. This provided a perfect opportunity for learning a variety of skills to capture the dark mood of the film with iconic Brighton imagery. Photoshop was used to edit their own photographs; students also explored the use of correct lighting for models in costume, props and typography.

Dorothy Stringer School - Artists Open House 2021 Year 10 Graphics - Viva Magazine Cover Students studied magazine design, exploring ideas for a front cover for the Brighton magazine Viva (which has sadly been lost due to the pandemic). This incorporated illustration, photography together with typography. Students came up with their own ideas for appealing to a younger audience.
