Silver Award Girl Scouts Change the World

Silver Award Girl Scouts are change-makers. They have changed the world, changed their lives, and earned the most prestigious award in Girl Scouting. To earn the Silver Award, a Girl Scout researches an issue they care about, make a plan to address it, and then take action to improve their community either individually or with a group of their Girl Scout peers. When the project is complete, the Silver Award Girl Scout and their team have made a sustainable impact on the world that continues to last beyond their involvement. It’s a huge accomplishment that also impacts the Silver Award Girl Scout as a person. How they see the world—and how the world sees them—is forever changed. It’s also a credential that will be with them for the rest of their life; the Girl Scout Silver Award is not just a stepping stone to the Gold Award - having it on a high school transcript or resumé can make a Girl Scout stand out when it comes to college admissions, scholarship applications, internships, and job interviews.

Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.

Thank You Silver Award Mentors! Silver Award Mentors are the incredible volunteers who have been trained by our council to assist girls in becoming Silver Award Girl Scouts. These mentors put forth a tremendous amount of time and dedication to guide and support Silver Award Girl Scouts. They attend monthly meetings, approve projects, act as a constant resource, answer questions, lend a hand, and ensure the Silver Award requirements for each project are fulfilled to GSUSA and Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson standards. It is their tireless work, long hours, open ears, and gentle guidance that help mold Silver Award Girl Scouts into strong, independent leaders who become courageous and optimistic world-changers. They show by example what it takes to make the world a better place. Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson cannot thank these volunteers enough for their commitment, and hope that you will join us in extending your gratitude to all the Silver Award Mentors today and always, as we celebrate the 2025 Silver Award Girl Scouts. 4

Silver Award Girl Scouts Dutchess County Boredom Buster Bags Abigail Greeney Troop 10181 New Oaks Service Unit Abby’s Silver Award project involved making up bags she hand-decorated for the patients/patient’s families staying at the Ronald McDonald house in Valhalla, NY. She wanted to try to put a smile on the children’s faces who were dealing with a scary time in their lives.

Badge Boost: Empowering Leaders and Growing Girl Scouts Kelly McMorris Troop 10381 Millbrook Service Unit Driven by the positive impact of her Girl Scout journey, Kelly designed a Silver Award project to both raise awareness of Girl Scouts in her community and establish a network of support and resources for its dedicated leaders.

Orange County Beat the Heat: Heat Stroke/Exhaustion Awareness and Prevention Emma Vink, Emily Whitney Troop 76 Cornwall Service Unit Emily and Emma’s project consisted of helping locals who may suffer of heat-stroke by giving out information and handmade neck cooling bands. They had a fun time supporting their community and educating many.

Dress Again Lilly Tietjen, Violet Vergilis Troop 327 Washingtonville Service Unit Lilly and Violet organized an event that focused on reusing, recycling and preserving the environment. In “Dress Again” people that don’t want to pay a lot of money or are trying to preserve their environment can turn to Dress Again to feel confident, included, and environmentally conscious on their special night.

Food Trolley Jasmine Medina-Finsen Troop 346 Monroe-Woodbury Service Unit Jasmine’s Silver Award project addressed local food insecurity by setting up a donation trolley that she built herself at her church for those in need. She was inspired by the rising living costs and aimed to make food more accessible. She is delighted that it is being actively used.

Jenna’s Pop Up Reading Rainbow Jenna Johnson Troop 99 Pine Bush Service Unit Jenna organized a series of Neighborhood Pop Up Libraries in the Town of Wallkill to promote literacy for those unable to get to a library. Due to lack of transportation and school closure, many kids have limited access to books, so having a Pop Up Library was very helpful.

Kids Helping Kids Carolyn Jonza Troop 327 Washingtonville Service Unit Carolyn’s project involved collecting items for Kids who are living at the Poughkeepsie Children’s Home. Carolyn wanted to give things to the kids that they needed and wanted. With the help of family, friends and staff at her school, she was able to donate lots of great things.

Lessons with Leah Leah Purta Troop 106 Warwick Service Unit Leah’s Silver Award project is an on-line website that she formed to help students in 6th and 7th grade who struggle in math. Her website contains slideshows and easily accessible information so these students gain confidence on topics they struggle with.

Orange County Monroe Pantry Box Amelia Kimbrell, Elizabeth Kimbrell, Sneha Mullen Juliette Girl Scouts Monroe-Woodbury Service Unit Amelia, Elizabeth, and Sneha worked diligently together as a group to plan, build, and place a food pantry box in the ponds area of the town of Monroe. They learned much about team work and implementing a project from start to finish.

Month of the Military Child Gabriella Allegra Troop 12 Cornwall Service Unit Gabriella’s Silver Award project raises awareness of the daily sacrifices of our military children and celebrates their resilience and courage. Its focus is on showing gratitude to our military families during the Month of the Military Child by letting our military kids know they are always welcome, respected, and appreciated.

Our Town Bench Elizabeth Rrapi, Rosalene Goris, Victoria Scaplehorn Troop 319 Monroe-Woodbury Service Unit The Silver Award project ,”Our Town” beautifies the entranceway to the Town Hall in Monroe, NY. The bench represents a place for the community to take a break, relax, energize, and gain vitality. The team also designed a plaque for the area. They are very proud of the result.

Orange County The Costume Fairy Abigail Baisley Troop 327 Washingtonville Service Unit Abbie’s Silver Award project helped bring joy and confidence to other young dancers. She collected over 150 gently used costumes at her dance studio and, with help from The Dance Fairies organization, donated them to dancers of all ages in non-profit dance programs throughout the country and around the world.

USMA Tree Inventory Olivia Jersey Troop 168 West Point Service Unit Olivia’s Silver Award project involved inventory of the trees on West Point and entering them into a database that will help preserve the trees since they are all historic trees. The data is being used by the arborists and the cadets at the United States Military Academy.

Putnam County Green Chimney’s Outreach Programs Assistance Sienna Verrone, Sky Corradino Troop 2425 Brewster Service Unit Sienna and Sky’s project was to help Green Chimneys, an organization supporting teens & young adults. They helped with two programs; an outreach center where 6th-8th graders can go to after school if parents work & they aren’t ready to be alone, and a shelter for 17-21 year olds at risk of becoming homeless.

The History of Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department Trista Leone Troop 2479 Mahopac Service Unit Trista’s Silver Award Project was writing a book that informed the community about the Mahopac Fire Department. She included the history, what they do for the community, and how to join. The book is located at the fire department, Mahopac High School and Mahopac Public Library.

The Renovation of the Community Garden and Compost Emma Cavanaugh, Aisling Stathos Troop 2505 Hudson Hghlands Service Unit Emma and Aisling’s Silver Award Project involved the renovation of the community compost and Garden at a local church. Emma and Aisling replaced the compost pile with a compost tumbler, cleaned up the herb garden and extended the garden, adding a pollinator garden space.

Rockland County A Place to Call Home - Bat Box Edition Avery Milton, Kayla Krasny, Marielle Grafstein Troop 40745 DeForest Service Unit This Silver Award project was to make bat boxes and hang them in places in their community. The group decided to hang them up at Camp Addisone Boyce in Tomkins Cove. They are very proud of all the research and time put into this project.

Advocating Animal Adoption Kate Finch Troop 40290 Pearl River Service Unit Kate’s Silver Award consisted of making toys and treats for shelter animals whilst advocating for their adoption. She created worksheets and Youtube videos for anyone wanting to create these toys and treats at home.

Allergy Smart Charlotte Fitzpatrick Troop 40316 Tappan Zee Service Unit Charlotte created a food allergy book for schools to help kids in her school have an easier way to check what they are eating during school. She listed allergens for many school lunches that students will be able to look through to determine what is safe for them to eat.

Rockland County Building Homes for Feathered Friends Lia Fasano, Kaitlyn Fasano Troop 40745 Deforest Service Unit Lia and Kaitlyn’s Silver Award Project involved creating birdhouses for Camp Addisone Boyce in Tomkins Cove to address the lack of shelter and habitat that birds have year round. They are very proud of the work that they have done and would like to thank everyone involved for a successful project!

Educating Females about Civil Air Patrol Teagan Gavin Troop 40316 Tappan Zee Service Unit Teagan’s Silver Award project involved promoting/mentoring females in the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) which is the auxiliary branch of the US Air Force. Through CAP Teagan, and fellow Cadets, engage in such activities as: search & rescue, disaster relief, homeland security operations; as well as foster aerospace education & leadership development programs.

Girl Scouts, Meet Equine Therapy! Kaitlin Del Negro Troop 40290 Pearl River Service Unit Kaitlin’s Silver Award project involved raising awareness about Equine Therapy. She held information sessions with local Girl Scout troops and designed a website and brochure shared with therapy programs across the country. Kaitlin is grateful to be able to share what she’s learned about equine therapy.

Rockland County Happy Hearts, Calm Kids Abigail Scull, Devyn Tatti, Julia Ezer, Mia Lozano, Riya Sam Troop 40073 Germonds Service Unit This project addressed the stress and anxiety many kids face in school as well as at home. The group hoped to help kids understand and learn to deal with anxiety. They did age-appropriate presentations to elementary school students, which included craft projects to engage the students.

Keep Rockland Beautiful Junior Recruit Katherine Moloney Troop 40316 Tappan Zee Service Unit Katherine’s award centered upon creating programming to be presented at libraries and two Girl Scout troops to show how much fun community cleanups can be! The junior recruit program also will help feed the Eco ambassador program when youth become of age.

Repainting the Evan’s Park Blacktop Ciara Prestage Troop 40290 Pearl River Service Unit Ciara’s Silver Award project was to paint blacktop games namely hopscotch, four squares and copy cat both freehand and using stencils at her former elementary school. Ciara hosted a candy bar bingo to raise funds for supplies. The students love their new playground.

Rockland County The Importance of Music for All Ages Gabriella Alcruz Troop 40073 Germonds Service Unit Gabriella’s Silver Award project was about the importance of music for all ages. Gabriella conducted a variety of group workshops with multiple age groups in her community exploring the benefits of music. Participants learned music basics, performed, listened and most importantly connected with each other.

YOU(th) ROCK GARDEN! Noreen Sheehan Troop 40290 Pearl River Service Unit Noreen’s Silver Award project was the creation of a (You)th rock garden at her local parish. Noreen involved the students of the CCD program to create and paint inspirational and motivational themes on the rocks used for the garden.

Ulster County Accessibility for All Alexandra Stoutenburg Troop 60319 River’s Edge Service Unit Alexandra’s Silver Award project entailed reconstruction of an entrance at a local community building. Alexandra and her team worked diligently to do ADA research, fundraise, and complete construction to make an entrance accessible for people with disabilities. She is extremely proud of everyone involved and the positive impact created.

Hygiene House Kendall Klippel, Reese Fisher Troop 60033 Kingston Service Unit This project involved designing, building, and filling a ‘Hygiene House.’ The Hygiene House is meant to provide access to free personal care products like Shampoo, Deodorant, Toothpaste etc. for anyone in need. They continue to fill it when needed. They are very proud of their project!

Internet Security Sophia Doviken Troop 60033 Kingston Service Unit Sophia addressed the issue of on-line safety. She taught everything from cyberbullying to social media to good security. She made posters, presentations, pamphlets, little free library books, created a website, and more! Her main goal was to spread awareness on internet safety and she successfully did so!

Ulster County Project Help the Strays Melody Jones, Sophia Schneider Troop 60319 River’s Edge Service Unit Melody and Sophia’s Silver Award project involved helping a local feral cat community. They planned and built feral cat homes that would keep the cats warm and dry. They also arranged and transported the cats to get spay/neutered.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Upcycle Elizabeth DeKoskie, Lily Potter Troop 60033 Kingston Service Unit Elizabeth and Lily wanted to share information about how much plastic is being wasted and how to help the problem. They hosted upcycling workshops where they used old ceiling tiles, flower pots, and paint to create something beautiful!

Sanctuary Animals Sara Milgrim Troop 60033 Kingston Service Unit Sara made birdhouse kits, and worked with her team to assemble, prime, and paint them. She delivered 22 birdhouses to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. She also put together a Junior Animal Habitats badge workshop attended by fellow Girl Scouts. All birdhouse supplies were donated by Herzog’s Home Center in Kingston, NY.

Storywalk at Netherwood Elementary School Molly Finch Troop 60319 River’s Edge Service Unit

Molly’s Silver Award Project provided Netherwood Elementary’s Nature Walk with 16 sturdy all-weather wooden story boards and a selection of 10 books to rotate throughout the year. Visitors to the Nature Walk can enjoy 2 of Molly’s favorite things: books and the outdoors!

A Helping Paw Julia Riela Troop 1436 Scarsdale/Edgemont Service Unit Julia’s Silver Award consisted of collecting old T-Shirts then using them to teach Girl Scouts how to braid them together to make a dog toy.

ADHD: We Are Here for You Hannah Abbott, Quinn Morgan Troop 2880 Rye Service Unit Hannah and Quinn’s Silver Award project was to create a website addressing the topic of ADHD. Hannah and Quinn researched, designed and created their website to educate others on ADHD and offer suggestions and recommendations they have found helpful. They are very proud of their project.

Adopt, Don’t Shop Cyndi Blair, Jaela Baptista, Nasya Hewie-Hill Troop 1856 New Rochelle Service Unit For their Silver Award project, Cyndi, Jaela, and Nasya worked with the SPCA in Yonkers selling baskets and used the money gained to donate towards shelters. They hope that they helped those who purchased the baskets and are very happy to help because they all have pets.

Westchester County Adopt-a-Grandparent Carina Cannizzaro, Gabriella Goldstein Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit This Silver Award project involved bridging the gap between senior citizens and teenagers. They created a program for their peers to volunteer once a month at Artis Senior Living of Somers. They created crafts and played games like Bingo. This program provides much needed companionship for seniors and teenagers.

Awesome ASL For Beginners Julia Anderson, Julie Sakhrani, Mia Sakran Troop 2834 Pelham Service Unit This project, “Awesome ASL for Beginners”, addressed spreading American Sign Language awareness, encouraging empathy and understanding in our community. Girl Scouts connected with a Girl Scout Troop from the New York School for the Deaf in White Plains and taught younger Girl Scouts and community members the Girl Scout Promise in ASL.

Bringing Camp to the Community Ada Weishaupl Troop 2834 Pelham Service Unit Ada’s project introduced the benefits of camp to younger Girl Scouts and community members. Ada educated younger Girl Scouts and parents on the mental health and social benefits of camp, and she led immersive camp experiences like s’more making, crafts, introduction to setting up a tent and equipment, and tie-dye.

Westchester County Establishing Memorial Plaque in Honor of Florence Finney Serena Finkelstein Troop 2880 Rye Service Unit For her Silver Award Project, Serena honored CT State Senator Florence Finney, who once lived in her neighborhood. Serena researched Finney’s inspiring legacy and donated a memorial plaque in her honor. The plaque celebrates Finney’s trailblazing role in state government and her dedication to children, the sick, and the elderly.

Field Hockey Fun Alessia Caruso, Cora Bomwell Troop 2353 Ossining Service Unit As part of their Silver Award Project, Alessia and Cora organized a workshop that gave younger kids in their community the opportunity to learn field hockey. During this workshop, they provided the kids with equipment and taught them the basic skills.

Flag Fundamentals Maeve Richmond Troop 1436 Scarsdale/Edgemont Service Unit Maeve’s Silver Award project involved teaching other Girl Scouts marching, flag etiquette, flag folding and how to hold a flag ceremony. She led Girl Scouts in making patriotic crafts for veterans. She created a manual for leaders so they could replicate her meeting to teach their girls flag fundamentals.

Westchester County Fostering Felines Samantha Hudson Troop 2016 West Lakeland Service Unit Samantha’s Silver Award project involved the animal community. Samantha created reusable foster kits for SPCA Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. These kits included all the items necessary to foster kittens until they are old enough to become adopted. Samantha would like to thank everyone who helped make this project possible!

Getting the Band Back Together Anne DePaolo Troop 2692 New Rochelle Service Unit Anne’s Silver Award project displayed the value of friendship through music at an early age. She distributed a video districtwide where she read a book, created a craft of making musical shakers, and her bandmates introduced their instruments and explained their love of forging friendships through band.

GnBtalkADHD! Gianna Otero, Isabella Colon Troop 1561 Pelham Service Unit Awareness, promotion and empowerment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). To support their project, Gianna and Bella created a portable patch program accessible to other scouts and community members, engaged the local community organization Pelham (SEPTA), hosted author Peter Shankman to talk about his children’s book, The Boy with The Faster Brain.

Westchester County Girl Scouts Plant Pelham Native Abigail Hambright, Evangelina Bellettieri, Laila Sakhrani, Jillian Caufield Troop 2617 Pelham Service Unit This Silver Award Project, “Girl Scouts Plant Pelham Native,” involved restoring native plant habitats and ecosystems in Pelham, NY to help fight the climate crisis. The group planted habitats in four locations throughout Pelham Manor, eliminating roughly 5,000 square feet of lawn for native plant habitat.

Health and Well Being Saliyaah Diouf Troop 1856 New Rochelle Service Unit Saliyaah’s Silver Award project was about promoting health and well being. Her goal was to remind people of all ages that prioritizing themselves is very important.

Hillside Cemetery Veteran Remembrance Project Hazel Sledzik Troop 2593 Somers Service Unit Hazel’s Silver Award Project involved locating/mapping, adorning (i.e. with flags and wreaths) and cleaning of veterans gravesites at the Hillside Memorial Cemetery. She is proud of this honorable work.

Westchester County Let’s Be Active Paz Marrero Troop 2834 Pelham Service Unit Paz’ Silver Award Project focused on the movement and activities of others. “Lets be active” was made to help others find joy and encourage others in working out or being active.

Mind, Body, and Flo Workshop Jazmin-Paige Bennett, Payton Richardson Troop 1856 New Rochelle Service Unit Jazmin and Payton’s Silver Award project involved educating young girls at their local Boys and Girls Club community about mental health, body hygiene, and period care. They are proud to have provided valuable knowledge and resources to support the well-being of their community.

Planting for Pollinators at Sheldrake Environmental Center Sinéad Grenouillon, Stella Jayson Troop 2623 Larchmont/Mamaroneck Service Unit Sinéad and Stella’s project addressed the alarming decline of bees and butterflies due to human activity. They focused on raising awareness, promoting pollinator-friendly practices, and deepening their understanding of their role in ecosystems. The experience empowered them to take meaningful action and advocate for the protection of these vital species.

Westchester County Protecting Native Trees and Managing Invasive Species in Westchester Woodlands Cameron Pattinson, Lexington Boyce Troop 1238 Pleasantville Service Unit Cameron and Lexie addressed the issues of invasive species and loss of native trees. They organized educational workshops and scavenger hunts, reaching 400 people through Pleasantville Day, Library sessions, Girl Scouts Love State Parks event, sessions at Rock Hill Camp and workshops with Girl Scout troops to earn the Tree Promise badge.

Recycled Music for the Mind Jazmine Deliser, Nia Ambrose Troop 1894 Mount Vernon Service Unit Jazmine and Nia’s Silver Award project combined music, mental health, and sustainability. They led workshops for kids ages 5–15, teaching mental wellness through instrument-making with recycled materials to promote creative expression, emotional support, and eco-friendly practices.

Reducing Individual Environmental Footprint Emili Sokoli Troop 2834 Pelham Service Unit Emili’s Silver Award project focused on raising awareness about everyday habits that impact the environment. She led workshops and created informative materials to help her community adopt eco-friendly practices like recycling, reducing plastic use, and conserving energy.

Westchester County Robins Nests Addison Lang Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit Addison’s Silver Award project involved the assembling of baskets which included items such as blankets, head coverings, lip balm, activity pads, etc. for cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy to help provide comfort during their stay. She was proud to be able to provide smiles to over 60 patients.

S&M Tutoring Maeve Chung, Susanna Beebe Troop 1233 Croton Service Unit Maeve and Susanna’s Silver Award Project involved tutoring students who were struggling with math at a local coffee shop once a week. They made packets, to be distributed around the community, with worksheets testing on 4th grade curriculum. They really enjoyed teaching and helping kids to grow their problem-solving skills!

Sensitivity Training Caroline Hocker, Julia Essell Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit Caroline and Julia’s Silver Award project involved demonstrating the struggles that persons with disabilities face every day. They provided hands on activities that illustrated what it was like to have a variety of disabilities.

Westchester County Set for Life Sophia Mateus Troop 2692 New Rochelle Service Unit Sophia’s Silver Award project focused on empowering children through volleyball, teaching them the importance of staying healthy, practicing good sportsmanship, building confidence, and fostering friendships through teamwork and play.

Sharing Positive Outlooks Anika Chimilio Troop 2353 Ossining Service Unit Anika created coloring books with positive messaging that she distributed to two family homeless shelters. The books addressed healthy ways to cope with challenges that can negatively affect mental health. To gather coloring pencils to hand out with the books, Anika led art-related badge workshops for younger troops.

Sprinkle and Sprout Diaper Bank Mikaella Perez Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit Mikaella’s project helped rebuild a much needed diaper pantry at a local

church in her town. She helped collect boxes of diapers of all sizes and brands to stock the diaper pantry which was depleted due to lack of donations.

Westchester County Stories From Heroes Zoey Stern Troop 2353 Ossining Service Unit Zoey’s Silver Award project involved interviewing military veterans to share their stories with others via a website so they would not be forgotten. She learned about the hardships that our military veterans endure to keep our country safe and free.

Story Time Aleksandra Boyko, Gianna Mandara, Leah Lobo, Naoli Vazquez Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit Naoli Vazquez, Aleksandra Boyko, Leah Lobo, and Gianna Mandara read to younger children of the town at the John Hart Library. They would have a theme for every week and would come up with activities related to the theme. The children loved it!

We All Play Music Hayley Larson Troop 2665 Lakeland East Service Unit Hayley’s Silver Award project was a music program she created for the PACE students at GFMS with special needs/multiple disabilities who didn’t have the opportunity for music class. She was very excited to work with these students to learn music, teach different instruments to them and play music with them.
