Introduction The following pages show my process in developing a design for a pavilion on London’s South Bank. I chose this site as I was fascinated with the way new structures, such as the London Eye and Jubilee footbridges, enhance and support the surrounding historical structures. They work together with the Landscaping of the site (designed for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012) to give a fresh and modern feel to the area.

Redeveloping HMP Pentonville The following pages show the work I produced for this university group project, on a team of 6 people. Our brief was to produce a proposal for the site, located in the borough of Islington in North London, when it will cease to be used as a category B men’s prison. The needs of the local community, with areas of high poverty as well as wealth, and the history of the prison ( grade II listed, the first model of its kind in Great Britain) needed to be taken into consideration. Our final proposal was for a mixed-use development including mixed housing, shopping and recreational facilities as well as a mental health centre and nursery. Proposal 2

We split into groups of 2 to work on a total of 3 different proposals. I produced the diagrams for proposal 2 to show the ideas my partner and I considered to be the most suitable for the site.

Final Proposal

I produced these diagrams to illustrate the final proposal which was determined during a group meeting. We decided to assign a different part of the site for each group member to work on individually. I was assigned to work on wing D and E as well as the covered courtyard between wings C and D.
