A VIEW FROM THE CHAIR

To everyone involved with Dorking Rugby, welcome back to the Big Field for the first home game of the season! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer while Armand and Dan have been putting the squads through their paces.

A warm welcome as well to our guests today from Barnes RFC.

For those of us who have watched the matches between our two teams over the past few seasons, it’s an understatement to say they’ve been exciting and engaging!

Each game has been top quality, edge of your seat, down to the last play action. Great credit goes to the players and coaches of both teams, and I don’t expect (but do hope!) today will be anything other than another typical tight encounter.

I had the pleasure of attending the Sponsors’ Lunch last week, and I want to give a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, both old and new, for their incredible support. It’s their contributions that enable us to provide topclass coaching, medical, and conditioning programs that simply wouldn’t be possible without them.

A special welcome today to our Spotlight Sponsor, Stonebridge Private Insurance. The support and service we’ve received from you over the past few years have been exceptional.

To Armand, his coaching team, and all the players, I wish you a successful season. You have our full support, and we thank you for the tremendous efforts you put in both during the season and pre-season to provide such compelling entertainment every Saturday. Good luck!

TACKLING YOUR MOVE WITH EASE

A WORD FROM THE DOR

Warm welcome back to the Big Field!

We last hosted Barnes at Dorking in the 2022/23 season, so I’m really looking forward to this matchup on home soil.

A big welcome to all our sponsors, supporters, old boys, and of course, the players. There’s simply nothing like match day Saturdays at home.

A further welcome to the traveling members from Barnes—I’m sure you’re looking forward to a cracking day of rugby after your win over Oxford.

The Dorking team suffered a defeat to the star-studded TJ’s last week, where they got the better of us in the first 30 minutes. That said, I’m incredibly proud of our effort in the final 50 minutes. The way we fought back will stand us in good stead for the season ahead.

A special welcome to the Stonebridge Private Insurance team, our match day sponsor as well. I’m sure Ben will lead from the front! ;-)

Now, let’s enjoy having league rugby back in full swing and get behind the players, who will be putting in a big shift, while respecting everyone involved.

Have a great day!

COCK FACTS - ‘POG’

Patrick, or ‘POG,’ joined the club just over a year ago, initially helping with our Youth Pathway and supporting the Colts on their way to a National Cup victory last season. Now fully committed to the Senior Squad, he has teamed up with Armand & Co., focusing on supporting our backline and defensive systems. The only man with a better Wattbike power output than Daniel Mackenzie himself, POG has been pushing the squad in training, sharing his wealth of rugby knowledge gained from many years with London Irish.

Rugby Inspiration?

Brian O’Driscoll. He changed the game and was my idol from a young age.

If you had to drive from the Big Field to Land’s End, who from the club would you want in the car with you?

It would have to be the coaching team/backroom staff. We haven’t had a social yet, so this might be a good starting point. Though Birchy would be banned from talking about scrums—ZZzzz.

Who would be the last person you’d take?

Charlie Connor or Jacko—wouldn’t get a word in!

Describe your perfect Sunday. Bike ride, roast dinner, family.

Best DRFC memory so far?

Probably seeing the Colts become National Champions. It was special to see how much it meant to the players and staff. I was delighted to play a small part in their success.

What do you like most about coaching/playing at DRFC?

It’s an ambitious club with good people, built on strong foundations within the junior age groups and a long-term sustainable vision.

COCK FACTS - DAN MACKENZIE

Usually found in the gym shouting at someone to perfect their form or push a little harder, Dan is a constant and unmistakable presence around the club. His attention to detail to ensure that every player is primed to perform at their best makes Dan’s behind the scenes work invaluable in preparing our teams for game day, and we’re lucky to have him driving our success each week.

Earliest DRFC Memory?

There is so many to choose from the one that stands out is getting promoted to Nat 2.

Rugby Inspiration?

Bakkies Botha the enforcer

If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?

Driver would be Armand Dj Finn

Chat Master Max

Who would be the last person you’d take?

Smithy cause we would get fined if

we don’t meet the standard of the journey.

What was your best memory from last season?

When Will Sanders scored his first try after 7 games and everyone went nuts.

What do you like most about coaching/playing at DRFC?

The amount of work that happens behind the scenes. The path way that Armand and the rest of the coaches do from minis (under6 ) level all the way to men’s opens. It’s truly something special to be apart of and see them grow and how far some of the kids go.

It’s a special club and there is still more to come that’s why I love this club.
