Today, I am pleased to welcome Guernsey to the Big Field for the last game prior to a break for the World Cup final stages. National League Rugby will resume on 4th November with an away trip to OA’s in prospect. Guernsey arrive on the back of a good victory against our old “friends” Worthing having won 3 and lost (narrowly) 3 so far. Last week Dorking survived a strong comeback from a physical Canterbury side to gain a further win to add to what is an encouraging start to the season. Due to the fine defensive display last week there are lots of walking or limping wounded hopefully our medical team can get most available for today’s encounter as I believe we will have the usual very close contest with Guernsey, who have been bolstered by the arrival of Dan Barnes from collapsed Jersey, adding to their already competitive outfit.

Further good news for the wider club last week with wins for the women’s team in their 3rd League fixture. It is great to have Craig and MVAM, who have been such great supporters of women’s rugby, in attendance at the lunch today. In addition, the Colts prevailed vs Sevenoaks in the latest round of the U18’s National Cup, next game away at current cup holders,TJ’s, on 19th November. Hopefully, with plenty of support from DRFC. As ever, the program that we offer players of all genders and ages would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors; we are especially pleased to have Ben and Stonebridge, Callum and Tara from the King’s Arms, in addition to MVAM attending lunch today.

Welcome back to the Big Field It feels like we have hardly played at home this season, with four of our previous six games so far being away! I want to extend a special welcome to players, management and supporters from Guernsey and Richmond who join us today. I hope you all have a great time down at Dorking on what is a big day for the club with our annual Oktoberfest celebrations. I hope you have a chance to enjoy a stein or two before you depart for home.

Guernsey have had a few good results of late and I’m sure knocking Dorking off their perch will be next on their agenda.We respect what we have seen from Guernsey so far and I’m sure it will be a cracking match today emulating what was a hugely competitive fixture when we faced them here last season.

As a club, we have some great momentum building of late, with our Women’s and Colts’ teams also doing unbelievably well. Massive congratulations to you all and long may it continue.

Lastly, but by no means least, is a quick thank you to our incredible supporters who have followed us far and wide and have been nothing short of amazing.You have played a huge role in the club’s success and recent recognition so thank you.

PLAYER PROFILES Zak has really been a great addition to the old men club of the front row. Having joined us last year as the 17 year old brotherin-law of our resident scrum coach, Zak immediately made his mark by making his club debut for the 2’s as a back rower - due to his age, he was unable to play in the front row until he turned 18, which he did in the off-season. Now he is known for raging carries and solid scrummaging, making this young gun one to really look out for.

Rugby Inspiration?

Definitely has to be Ellis Genge for his ball carrying.

If you had to drive from the Big Field to Land’s End who from the club would you want in the car with you?

Max Sheldrake, Tommy Bristow and Charlie Connor. A journey filled with endless chat and full of stories.

Has to be getting to play in the back row in the 2’s.

Definitely between Henry Birch and Tom Bristows.

What do you like most about playing Rugby at DRFC? Front row snacks before games are definitely a highlight. Something that cause a great deal of excitement pre match!

I would also allow previous members of this exclusive club to join me.A short drive via a few food outlets ending up with a quick scrum down at ‘Hell Fire Corner’ with a pasty. I’m sure plenty of people will know what I’m talking about, if not pure a rugby delight awaits you.

Who would be the last person you’d take?!

Anyone who defines themselves as a member of “The Backs”.They can pack their own parachute and make their own bloody way.

They are constantly living off the hard graft of the forwards. Just typical!

Since joining Dorking, Charlie has truly taken on the title of club weirdo.
