A warm welcome to The Big Field today to our good friends and today’s opponents, Westcombe Park RFC.
I’m sure they arrive full of confidence following their impressive win last week against fellow Kent side Canterbury. Their optimism will likely remain high after viewing our disappointing result and performance in last week’s loss at Oxford Harlequins. Hopefully, Armand can enlighten us before today’s match. I’m certainly pleased and buoyed by the fact that we’re playing on real grass!
I would also like to welcome our spotlight sponsor, Beavis Morgan, and their guests to today’s match. In addition to being our muchvalued auditor and adviser, they have strongly supported the club with invaluable sponsorship over the last three years, enabling us to support players of all ages, from 5 to 50, in maximising their potential. Thank you.
I hope you enjoy today’s game, which is the first of three home games in a row. Your support is needed and appreciated today, and for the next two weeks.
Enjoy,
Shaun
Shaun Hammond Chairman, Dorking Rugby Club
We had a bit of a wake-up call against Oxford last weekend, as they played some great rugby while we were simply below par. A warm welcome to Westcombe Park supporters, players, and management. WP will be flying high after their famous victory over Canterbury last weekend, which makes today’s fixture even more exciting.
I’m really looking forward to seeing these two teams go at it today. I know we pushed it to a close win away from home earlier in the season, and they are certainly in great form.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank our matchday sponsor, Beavis Morgan, for their continued support.
Grab your drink of choice, warm up those vocal cords, and let’s get behind the players today!
Have a great day of rugby.

Today, we’re pleased to welcome Westcombe Park RFC to The Big Field for what promises to be another fiercely contested National 2 East clash. Currently sitting in fifth place, just two spots behind us, Westcombe Park comes into this game in red-hot form, having won their last seven matches, including a hard-fought Kent derby victory over Canterbury last weekend. With momentum firmly on their side, they will no doubt be looking to extend their winning streak today.
Founded in 1904, Westcombe Park has a long and proud history, consistently competing at a high level and producing talented players over the years. Based in Orpington, the club has built a strong reputation for its competitive edge and ability to develop homegrown talent, making them a wellrespected force in the southeast.
This season, their form has been particularly impressive, blending a welldrilled forward pack with a dangerous attacking backline. Promoted to National 2 East after winning the Regional 1 South East championship in the 2022–23 season, they have quickly established themselves as a serious contender, claiming several impressive scalps along the way.
We extend a warm welcome to the players, staff, and supporters of Westcombe Park and look forward to what should be a thrilling contest.

When did you join DRFC?
I joined Dorking when I was 15 along with some friends after years of convincing my mum that rugby wasn’t a dangerous sport.
Have you played for any other teams?
No, I’m Dorking from day one! Only Surrey U18s as well as Dorking.
Earliest DRFC Memory?
My first ever match after two weeks of training. I was terrified and probably cost us the game by throwing the ball to the opposition any time someone came to tackle me.
Rugby Inspiration?
Ellie Kildunne- she’s great and I love her passion for the sport.
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you?
Erin Taylor (for the banter), Lauren Parsons (rugby mum) and Olly Raw (chauffeur).
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Sofia Schifano… no explanation needed!
What was your best memory from last season?
The winning game of last season and us getting promoted to NC2.
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
Dorking is my home away from home. I feel like I have a second family here and I love every single person on my team. I am my best self when I’m at rugby and surrounded by great people.
When did you join DRFC?
I joined Dorking in the 2023 pre-season after playing club rugby at East Grinstead and representing Sussex County Rugby during my time in the Colts. I wanted to challenge myself and improve my game as I transitioned into senior rugby. I explored local clubs, and Dorking stood out to me.
DRFC Memory?
My earliest DRFC memory was my first 1st XV game last season against Barnes. I was called up late, but it was a great experience to earn my first cap in such a tough game.
Rugby inspiration?
Asher Apoku-Fordjour. The fact that he can play both sides of the scrum with such composure at his age is truly inspiring.
If you had to drive from the Big Field to Lands End who from the club would you want in the car with you? Bristow, Charlie, and Max. They can continue teaching me the ways of the scrum and share their knowledge on becoming a better prop.
Who would be the last person you’d take?
Bealo. I’ve witnessed some of the sounds and smells his body produces after a meal at the front-row socials.
What was your best memory in a Dorking shirt?
My best memory in a Dorking shirt so far was playing my first U21s Christmas Eve game. The crowd and atmosphere were fantastic, and it was an enjoyable day all around.
What do you like most about playing at DRFC?
The best thing about DRFC is the balance that has been created between having fun and striving for big goals. There’s a winning mentality across the whole club.
