Dorking v Jersey RFC Saturday 16 August | 2.15 PM Kick Off Pre-Season | Game 1
“ “
We extend a warm welcome to our visitors this weekend, Jersey and Old Cats. Pre-season has seen the usual mix of familiar faces returning and new players joining our ranks, and it has been a pleasure to see how quickly they have settled into the Dorking way of doing things.
I have heard from our coaching teams that both the men’s and women’s squads have been put through their paces over the past couple of months.
Last week’s Sponsors BBQ was a fantastic way to set the tone for the months ahead. It provided an opportunity for our sponsors to meet the players, including the new faces, and to hear a little about the season to come. We are fortunate to enjoy the backing of such a committed group of sponsors, whose support is invaluable to the running of the club. My thanks go to each of you for helping make what we do possible.
As we embark on another season, I would also like to acknowledge the tireless efforts of our coaches, medical staff, volunteers, and committee members, all of whom contribute to the club’s continued success on and off the pitch.
I look forward to seeing many of you around the club in the coming months and hope you enjoy another season of competitive rugby, camaraderie, and community here at The Big Field.
Shaun Hammond Chairman, Dorking Rugby Club
It’s certainly great to be back into the rugby swing of things.
Pre-season was six weeks long and included 15 sessions for the lads to get themselves match-ready. The next three weekends are all about match fitness, while still aiming to deliver on our systems and processes.
We’ve had a real influx of lads join Dorking this year—whether through a recommendation from one of our players or simply someone reaching out to us out of the blue. They’ve all been great additions, and I’m really proud of their application and attendance throughout.
The medical and S&C teams have had their hands full alongside the coaching team, putting in the hard yards, so I’m massively excited to see how the delivery looks on the field.
We welcome Jersey and OC’s to The Big Field this weekend and would like to extend a warm welcome to all their players, management, and supporters.
It’s great to be back in rugby mode, and I’d like to wish the players the very best of luck for the season ahead. I also want to thank all our loyal Dorking sponsors and supporters in advance—it’s set to be a great season!
Your DoR,
Armand Roux, #wacomb
Armand Roux Director of Rugby, Dorking Rugby Club
Today we welcome Jersey Rugby Football Club to the Big Field for our first pre-season fixture and the first outing for our new-look squad. With preparations for the new campaign now underway, both sides will be looking to put in a performance that sets the tone for the months ahead.
Based in the Channel Islands, the club has a proud rugby tradition and has competed at the highest levels of the English rugby pyramid. Known as Jersey RFC until 2016, they rebranded as Jersey Reds, adopting an all-red kit and enjoying a remarkable rise through the leagues, capped by winning the 2022–23 RFU Championship. Financial difficulties then brought an abrupt end to their professional era, forcing the club to start afresh as Jersey RFC once again.
Since reforming, they have enjoyed successive promotions and now compete in
Regional 1 South Central, one level below National 2 East, the league in which we play. They remain renowned for their physicality, organisation and expansive style of play, and most recently claimed a convincing 30–13 victory over Guernsey in the 2024/25 Siam Cup – the annual clash between the two Channel Island rivals. For Dorking, today is the first opportunity to test our new squad in match conditions. For Jersey, it’s a chance to blend new signings with established talent as they continue their climb back up the leagues.
