If I could choose one superpower, the ability to slow down or pause time might be it. How incredible would it be to make the best moments of your life last just a little bit longer? From events like your wedding day to the happy mundane of soaking in time with your loved ones.
Without sorcery, I think the next best thing is practicing ways to really be in the moment, and then holding on to those moments for savoring. In a way, that is the superpower that wedding photographers share with us: capturing the thousand tiny moments throughout a celebration that would be impossible to hold onto alone and letting you revisit and relive them.
In this way you can always remember the morning coffee while getting ready; the exact shade of periwinkle in the bridal bouquet; the emotion on loved ones' faces as you said your vows. What a gift! Every year as I look at wedding galleries, I’m always moved by the effusive display of love. I think you will be too.
This issue marks an evolution of the magazine, including more weddings than ever before (after receiving more submissions than ever before), and in new ways. We still share a handful of more detailed love stories that let you get to know the couple pictured, but there are also more highlights of weddings to touch on some incredible elements that just needed to be shared.
As always, it’s an honor to share the love that seems to permeate every aspect of this peninsula. I’m always left with a renewed appreciation for this beautiful place and the people that make it so wonderful. Special thank you to the couples and all those who submitted their events for consideration, thank you for sharing and inspiring!

AN ELEGANT BLUFFTOP EVENT TO CELEBRATE LOVE FROM COAST TO COAST
Out of college both Christina and Ryan found themselves working for the same health tech company, and soon were both a part of a tight-knit friend group that shared a love for hard work, travel and making memories adventuring together. Fast forward a few years and the two found themselves both in New York City where they had each moved independently.
“We reconnected about six months after settling into the city, staying in touch over casual drinks. We had remained in the same industry, so we would catch up about work and life,” said Christina. “Our meetups became a ritual and somewhere along the way, friendly dinners turned into more intentional dates as we realized how well we worked together - to no one’s surprise!”
After a proposal on a private slice
of beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the wedding planning process was put in motion. They first considered California, where they now live, but ultimately chose Door County because of the strong family ties; Christina grew up spending summer weekends here and both her grandparents and parents now own homes in Ephraim.
“We absolutely love Door County and feel fortunate to call it ‘home.’ Bringing our loved ones to such a
special place was the best decision we made,” said Christina. We wanted to incorporate as much of our personalities into the day, and knew we wanted to bring loved ones out for an extended weekend, if possible, to experience the magic of Door County.”
Having demanding jobs and a two-hour time difference between the west coast and midwest sometimes impeded planning, but they credit their mothers and wedding planner Carrie Baldwin for pulling off a seamless event. “There’s a unique charm in how Door County comes together, fostering a sense of connection and support that makes it feel so special,” said Christina.
The couple included a Mantilla ceremony during mass which is a Spanish tradition where a lace shawl is placed on the couples' shoulders to signify unity.

The Top Photo "MustHaves" Planning Insights:
The Photo After "That's a Wrap!"
"One of our must-have moments is the instant we tell our couple, 'You’re done with photos — go eat, relax and enjoy your party!' The sheer relief and joy in that moment are unmatched. It’s often followed by fist pumps, spontaneous lifts and some of the most genuine, carefree smiles of the day."
- Cody from Tandem Photography
The Golden Hour Unwind
"A must have for me is photographing the bride and groom during golden hour - the best light of the day! They also love it because it gives them a little time for just the two of them and they’re usually very relaxed and natural."
- Tammy from Art of Exposure Photography
The Storytelling Moments
"Photos involving movement that capture energy, making you feel like you were at the wedding without having been there and great reactions during toasts/ speeches, whether it’s tears or gut-busting laughter!"
- The McCartneys Photography
The Post-Ceremony
Pause
"One of my favorite moments is after the ceremony when the couple have cleared the aisle. There is a split couple of seconds where the couple looks at each other, now removed from their guests. The first moment married, alone together. That look is pure elation. It is so genuine and bare."
- Laura from xoMe Studio
The Over-theShoulder
"Whenever possible, I love capturing a photograph from behind the bride and her father, mother or parents during the processional. This shot perfectly frames the groom as he watches his bride walking down the aisle. In every photo, you can see the pride and happiness radiating from the groom. I first captured this type of photo at my very first wedding, and the couple loved it. Since then, I’ve made it a point to include this shot in every wedding I photograph whenever I can."
- Luke from Luke Collins Photography
The In-theMovement
"I love asking my couples to spin or run together, those playful moments that are naturally so full of spontaneity. All that wedding dress fabric is so beautiful in motion too. Not something you always see captured. Sometimes I’ll intentionally play with the motion blur, I love photos where you can “feel” the movement."

Laura & Graham
Est. November 11, 2023 & celebrated August 17, 2024
A RING WARMING CEREMONY & RECEPTION IN FISH
CREEK
Both Laura and Graham grew up in Green Bay, but they didn’t cross paths until undergrad at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Laura’s best friend was dating Graham’s best friend and, soon enough, the shared Friday night festivities and Badger Game Days revealed they had a lot more in common than just a love for Wisconsin sports. They also had a shared love of adventure, travel and rock climbing - which culminated in an engagement atop a four-pitch climb outside of Ouray, CO, named Princess Ella’s Magical Adventure.
“It was nothing short of its name - an absolutely magical adventure complete with a Tyrollean traverse over a waterfall, four pitches of wonderful climbing and a surprise fairytale proposal at the top,” described Laura of their climb and engagement. Graham had to lead the last pitch and before he belayed Laura up, he lit candles, encircled them with a big heart with the excess rope and prepared to pop the
question. "When I summited, Graham was down on one knee and it was the easiest and biggest yes of my life."
The pair had a strong desire for an intimate ceremony, which led them to elope on November 11, 2023, on the top of Sandia Peak in New Mexico, where they used a narrow hiking trail for an aisle and both wore Patagonia vests in white and black. They continued to prioritize meaningful connection and quality time as they began planning their reception in Fish Creek, saying ,“We really wanted an outdoor affair that felt easy and laid back but also honored the significance of the life event.”

“We’ve never gotten so many hugs from the people we love in one day, and that simple realization and the joy it brought us has really stuck with us.” - Laura

Their wedding planner, Shannon Mead, suggested they incorporate a ring warming ceremony, which is rooted in old Irish tradition.
“Essentially we took off our wedding bands, tied them together with a ribbon and then passed them around to our immediate family members. Each person had the opportunity to share an intention, blessing, story, piece of advice, and/or poem with us as the rings were passed,” said Laura. “It was the perfect way to invite our friends and family into celebrating our marriage while preserving the preciousness and intimacy of our elopement.”
To involve the rest of the guests, they had personalized handwrit-

ten notes to each person for them to pick up as they entered the event, as well as “wishing papers” for them to add their own intention or blessing for the couple. After the warming of the rings, Laura and Graham lit them all on fire and let them fly - which was a callback to what they did together during their elopement on 11/11 after exchanging their vows and rings.
Outside of the ceremony and intimate moments, the other most memorable part of the day was "dancing our faces off," said Laura. "As soon as the first song came on, every guest was on the floor. Shout out to DJ Josh for liberating the inner child in each of us - it was a wicked good time!"
The personal notes to each guests carried out their key elements of the event: intimate, intentional and shared quality time.
"Our shared vision was less structure and fanfare, and more time for connecting with our guests in an intimate setting."
- Laura

A CELEBRATION OF LOVE & NEW LIFE IN
SISTER BAY
Nina and Kyle met in a fashion straight out of a rom com: they met for the first time while playing in a Beer League Hockey game. Nina happened to injure her ankle badly enough where she couldn’t stand on it, and Kyle jumped into action carrying the hockey bags, sticks, and Nina on his back out of the rink and to the emergency room. “I told him he could leave at that point and I could Uber home, but he stayed with me all night in the hospital
watching TV and talking until six in the morning when I was discharged. We consider this our first date, and have been together ever since!” said Nina.
Both Kyle and Nina coach girls hockey, and to keep with the theme, Kyle proposed in front of the team at a local hockey rink in March 2022. They knew from the beginning they wanted a Wisconsin wedding even though they have no family ties to the state, and that they would plan an event that truly represented them as a couple.
After finding Northern Haus online, they made a trip to visit the venue and fell in love with Door County. They booked the space two and a half years from their date so they had plenty of time to plan with minimal stress. Nina and her mother thrive in detailed planning, and they also booked Sara Anderson as their wedding planner to help them bring their vision to life.
"Our goal was that when guests remember our wedding, they would think: that event was very THEM."
- Nina
They adapted the flow of the day and major details to suit their relationship: they wrote their owns vows and wording for the ring exchange; they exchanged surprise custom mugs on their wedding day (to be used on anniversary mornings); they bought hockey jerseys for their wedding party to wear during the grand entrance; and they opted to eat
alone together during dinner so they could soak in their time as fresh newlyweds. However there was one unique family tradition they included: Nina’s mother and grandmother both had white weddings where the bride and bridesmaids all wore white.
Nina had fallen in love with a floral gown, but she had her bridesmaids wear satin ivory dresses (and one "bridesMike" wear an ivory suit) as a nod to the tradition.
It was also very important to them that they include their baby in the celebration, saying “we had decided in early 2024 to start building our family, and couldn't come up with a good reason to wait until after the wedding. We were so excited it happened for us!”
"A major inspiration for the details of the wedding - florals, decor, colors, etc. - was from my wedding dress."
- Nina

After a serendipitous meeting at a coffee shop on a weekday afternoon, Linda and Jeff had dinner the next evening and talked until the restaurant closed. As dates progressed, they visited Door County, where Linda spent time growing up. On one trip, they discovered Door Bluff County Park and found it serene and beautiful. “I thought to myself, this would be an amazing place to get married to Jeff,” said Linda.
Since the park is a public space they had to plan for other visitors potentially being there and consider inclement weather, but since it was a Thursday afternoon, they had the flexibility to move the timing around if necessary. On the day of, the weather was perfect. “We were so lucky with warm temperatures and perfect sunlight glistening on the bay,” said Linda.
When the time came to plan, they both agreed on wanting a wedding that was intimate, casual, spiritual and fun. With planner Shannon Mead they planned an afternoon wedding in the park followed by a reception dinner together at Barringer’s Restaurant in Fish Creek.

A friendship turned into something more after Linzee and Amelia bonded through having daughters similar in age and then later working for the same company. While neither have direct ties to Door County, it is home to many members of their chosen family, which made it an easy choice. The rocky coastline views at Newport State Park drew them in and they chose a rental home nearby for their small reception. Keeping things simple allowed them to plan everything in six weeks.
To make things more personal, they adapted traditions to make their own: “We got ready together, we didn’t walk down the aisle but rather came in as a family with our three kiddos, we said vows to our children, had a private first dance, and a casual reception with pizza and carrot cake!” said Linzee. "Whatever ideas you have about what you want your wedding to be, you can make it happen in Door County."

For Breanna and Brice, getting assigned seats next to each other in the 6th grade started a mutual secret crush which eventually led to love after reconnecting as adults. While dating, a common weekend getaway included taking their dog to Whitefish Dunes State Park, where they decided would be a great location to tie the knot.
“I always wanted to elope, but it was important
to be close enough to home for our friends and family to be a part of our big day. I came across Pink Door Events “Champagne and Cake” package, and Rachel brought all of my Pinterest inspo to life.”
Breanna was thankful to have a planner and thoroughly enjoyed being able to just be present and enjoy the day. “We didn’t want to break the bank on our wedding day so having the event at a state park saved a lot of money. Being in Door County also doubled as our mini-moon and we were able to take an extended weekend to explore the parks, go to wineries, and all of the local shops,” said Breanna.

Since the day Jack and Alison met on a dating app in Atlanta, Georgia they have barely spent a day apart. “When I took Jack to meet my family in Door County, he instantly understood why I was always homesick,” said Alison. Once a wedding was on the horizon, they agreed there was no better place to get married.
Alison always imagined having a wedding like her parents had, which was a simple wedding at their cousin's home in Sister Bay. “I wanted something small and simple. We didn’t want an “event,” we just wanted it to be about the marriage and sharing the moment with the ones we love,” said Alison. “We wanted an old-fashioned picnic feel, which is why Weborg Point in Peninsula State Park was so perfect.”
They made the reservations online, food was served cold so they didn’t need electricity, and they had a fire in the fireplace for warmth. "Our wedding was small enough that I was able to spend time with and talk to everyone that shared the day with us. That was really special," said Alison.

fter a romantic proposal atop the second story balcony in the lobby of the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Door County residents Claire and Dan began planning a formal wedding in the Chicago area where they had lived previously. However, halfway through planning, an accident led to a medical challenge for Dan and the couple decided to pivot their plans in order to keep their nuptials closer to their current home.
Having originally met while working together at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in the summer of 2018, it was an easy decision to choose Horseshoe Bay Farms as the new site for their wedding ceremony with a reception to follow at the nearby Donald and Carol Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor.
The couple captured photos around the historic Horseshoe Bay Farms property, including a stickwork art installation "Happy Go Lucky" by Patrick and Sam Dougherty (top).

“Replanning on a condensed calendar to keep our original wedding date, we had a new vision of a relaxed, but still elegant, event,” said Claire. They adapted their new wedding plan to fit the tighter planning schedule and it became a Sunday morning event themed: I Love You a Brunch.
“We wanted our event to be unique - more casual - and we are not necessarily big partiers,” said Claire. Guests were treated to an array of brunch-y baked goods and hors d'oeuvres, and a mimosa and Bloody Mary bar complete with cheese curd skewers. The ceremony began at 10:30 am and allowed for plenty of time for relaxing and spending time with guests.
Forgoing a traditional bridal party, the wedding included “flower dudes” instead of groomsmen and the couple’s dog Ace was the “best man” in addition to the matron of honor, Claire’s sister, and two ushers.
The reception themed "I Love You a Brunch" featured a full spread of all the delicious brunch items you could imagine.

After attending prom together, Emma and Charles (or Charlie) lost touch until they reconnected post-graduation. where they had one of their first true dates. When it came to wedding planning, “I always thought I wanted a small intimate elopement,” said Emma. “I knew I would be a perfectionist when it came to my own wedding and didn’t want the stress of planning. Charlie, on the other hand, comes from a large family where weddings are their superbowls. I surrendered to the traditional wedding pretty quickly.”
Their vision formed into having a traditional Catholic ceremony followed by a not-so-traditional massive party. “I was honestly most focused on making sure the guests had a great party to attend. Our guests were traveling from all over the world and we wanted to make it worth it. We knew Door County would be the perfect place.”
Planning long distance was a bit difficult, as they were located in Charleston, South Carolina, and Charlie was away often in the Air Force, but with the help of Pink Door Events the whole day went off without a hitch. “I highly recommend using vendors that have worked together before and using a wedding coordinator,” said Emma.
It was their coordinator, in
fact, who led them to pick Sneezy for their live band even though they are definitely not a traditional wedding band. “Sneezy just so happened to be playing at one of our favorite bars in Charleston, and we were immediately hooked,” said Emma. They spread the word to their friends who also began to attend their shows leading up to the wedding. “By the time the wedding rolled around half our guests knew the lyrics to their songs. It made for the best night!”

“Purple is a big part of who I am. I have had purple hair for half of our relationship at this point and knew I would at the wedding,” said Elizabeth. “We were then drawn to the dark teal as we thought it complemented the purple nicely and Trevor pointed out that it’s a mix of our favorite colors - green and blue. Our accent colors of gold and black were an elegant color combination to balance out the teal and purple.”

A MODERN-DAY FAIRY TALE FOR A SCULPTOR AND A SWORDSMITH
David grew up spending his summers in Ephraim with his family at his grandparents' house on Lake Michigan. He developed a deep love for the area which was woven into his work as a swordsmith and impacted the choice of his business name, Cedarlore Forge, because of his love for the abundant cedar trees all throughout Door County. Chloe was across Lake Michigan enjoying her childhood summers in Petoskey and Harbor Springs with her own family, but as soon as she was introduced to Door County, she fell in love with the rocky shores and natural areas.
After getting engaged on the beach at Björklunden in Baileys Harbor, they were aligned from the start on wanting to get married at the nearby Boynton Chapel and wanting an event with an earthy, folksy feel. They also wanted a religious ceremony, saying “we are both Christian and therefore included a blend of both Catholic and Presbyterian traditions through prayers and hymns which honored both sides of our families and was the most important part of our wedding day.”
"I surprised David during our first look with a letter I had written to my future husband at 17 years old! I didn't expect him to cry, but it was such a beautiful moment and one of our most special memories."

Maggie and Andy met at a Chicago White Sox game - and Maggie soon after introduced Andy to Door County, where her family spends every 4th of July holiday. After getting engaged on the peninsula, it only made sense to also seal the deal in the county.
At first, a big golf course wedding seemed like a good option - but after researching, they decided they preferred something more intimate. “We chose the Edith Becker because the boat capacity was exactly the number of people in our immediate families. It felt meant to be,” said Maggie.
"It's almost as if the day was made for us.”

“We managed to have lunch together just the two of us at Sister Bay Bowl before getting dressed. It was a nice, intimate moment,” said Andy. “We met Luke Collins at Sunset Beach in Fish Creek for pictures ahead of the ceremony and we were the only people there and the weather was perfect for a nice boat ride.”

Once high school friends, Sophie and Ben reconnected again after their college years due to an invite from Ben to Sophie to join a co-ed soccer team. “She couldn’t make soccer, but we grabbed coffee and I kept making excuses to come see her until finally we realized we were dating.”
From the start, they both knew they wanted to have a more intimate wedding ceremony with a larger reception later on. They chose Door County for a location because it allowed them to incorporate the beauty of nature into their celebration, as well as Ben having family connections to the area. Their initial vision was simple, “we wanted the wedding to be outside and for our closest friends to be able to perform the ceremony. Beyond that, we wanted to work with as many local vendors as possible,” said Ben.
"The wedding ceremony felt like a chance for us to be vulnerable with one another in a way that would only be comfortable in front of our immediate family." - Ben
They wrote their own vows which made the ceremony very personal and meaningful. Another highlight of the weekend was hosting a Sunday coffee sendoff complete with two custom-created lattes from their friend and entreprenuer Ryan Castelaz.

"The whole day just felt right. The day felt like us." - Savanna
While dating, Savanna and Nick would travel to Door County every summer weekend to stay at his grandparents home in Gills Rock. On their third anniversary they got engaged at Door Bluff Headlands. Tying the knot on their fifth anniversary in Door County was fitting.
Each of them come from large families and initially they started planning a large wedding event.
“We soon realized we were planning a wedding for everyone else, not us,” said Savanna.
“One night during a late night talk we joked about having a micro wedding. The next morning we cancelled all our original plans and by the end of the week had Gordon Lodge booked for our dream wedding.”
Gabi & Adam
Cana Island Lighthouse August 12, 2023
"After our ceremony a rainbow popped out for a moment and that felt like a really special omen for our marriage." - Gabi
Gabi and Adam never felt drawn to a large event and instead opted to elopeon Cana Island with only their immediate family present and celebrating with friends later in the Madison area. "We preferred to keep our ceremony smaller and more intimate to make it more special for ourselves and our family," said Adam. "Both of our families have many memories vacationing in Door County over the years and it felt like the perfect place to gather everyone and celebrate such a special time with us."
They DIY'd most things, including having Gabi's sister Natalie create the bridal bouquet out of flowers picked from their childhood home and Adam's brother played guitar during parts of the ceremony.
"Don’t be afraid to ask for help or to DIY things, I had a lot of fun working on certain aspects with my sisters," said Gabi. After the ceremony on the water, the group had dinner at Harbor Fish Market in Baileys Harbor.

After a surprise proposal in the Bahamas, Kevin shared his idea of a steampunk themed wedding with Jim. “It wasn’t hard to convince Jim because we both wanted a unique, non-traditional and memorable event for our guests,” said Kevin. “We have a home in Sturgeon Bay and love the beauty of the peninsula, especially in autumn. It was the obvious choice for us to host it in Door County with so many friends and family in the area along with the appeal for out-oftown guests. We picked mid-September which is a
slower time before the fall festivals arrive.”
They wanted a special historic location in order to match their theme, and having a venue that eliminated driving from lodging to the event was a plus. “There are many great venues in Door County but Lodge at Leathem Smith was the perfect location! It has great historic charm with its grand ballroom and offers a great view of the water, especially at sunset,” said Kevin. Visiting guests could all lodge there as well, making it truly convenient.
The attire was another unique challenge, but one that Kevin’s maid-ofhonor was able to assist with as a seamstress and major costume shop owner in Milwaukee. The tuxes had custom steampunk features, and guests were invited to match the theme as well with their own flair.
Jim had Reba from Sterling Mercantile & Garden Center make white orchid bowls for the tables, and unique linens from Ruby Design Event Rentals were used to create a fitting tablescape.
The processional was personalized to include Jim’s four adult children, teenage granddaughter and oneyear-old grandson as the ringbearer
(who rode in an electric Jeep since he wasn’t walking yet), and Kevin’s best friend, godson and niece. After the ceremony, Jim and Kevin changed into outfits with a bit more spunk to celebrate the evening in, debuting their looks as they walked into the reception to P!nk’s “Let’s Get the Party Started!”
“The reception was very fun since the stress of the day was behind us,” said Jim. “It was a perfect day. Everything went smooth which is a testament to Kevin’s planning skills! We and our guests loved the fact that the entire weekend and all events were held at one central location.”
"Steampunk incorporates Victorian clothing and vintage mechanical accessories, which we knew would be perfect for the experience we envisioned for our guests."
- Kevin

ON THE ISLAND
After meeting online and connecting over movies, music and art, Allyson and Phil initially wanted to have a small outdoor wedding in Milwaukee. However, as they began to plan, things started getting too formal and overwhelming. They pivoted to a ceremony on Schoolhouse Beach to keep things casual and authentic. “Since Phil had proposed at sunset on Schoolhouse Beach, we decided to complete the circle and have our wedding at the same spot,” said Allyson. “It was so beautiful.”
They rented the pavilion for a little music and dancing before hosting the reception dinner at Hotel Washington. Since they chose a non-religious ceremony, they

incorporated a “hand fasting” ceremony and matched it with their own vows as a symbolic ritual and as a fun way to literally “tie the knot.” When they finished the ceremony everyone swimming at the beach cheered. “Planning the wedding on Washington Island was one of the best decisions we’ve made. Everyone we worked with was helpful and patient,” said Allyson. “The light shines a little brighter here.”

Evy being a native islander (born and raised on the island) and Charles’ family having owned property on the island since the 70’s made getting married on the island the easiest choice. During the summer and fall they both reside on the island, so they had a head start on local connections, but tapped in Pink Door Events to help plan. “We knew ahead of time that we wanted the reception at The Old Potato Farm, and worked with the strengths of the venue,” said Charles. They didn’t conform to too many traditions, but they did stop by Nelsen’s Hall for a shot of Angostura bitters, true to islander form. The largest hurdle was logistics of arranging travel for guests and vendors, recalling “the remote location meant utilizing planes, trains, automobiles and ferries!”

"There's no reason to rush on Washington Island. Everything will work out if you go with the flow."

Dakota & Kris
Since Dakota was a child, she had always thought of the Washington Island Stavkirke as a dream wedding venue. Once Kris was introduced to the county, their visions aligned. Dakota’s mother had a lifetime of event planning experience and helped the couple get to work planning to match their vision of a wedding with family, fall colors and filled with meaning. “God had gifted us with the path to marriage so it was important to center our ceremony around Him. Pastor Ed of Trinity Lutheran Church on Washington Island did a great job helping us structure our ceremony,” said Kris.
They first made sure every guest understood that the wedding would take place on an island and that the ferry was a necessary travel piece, and then arranged a lodging and reception venue through Dan at The Harbor Inn Resort. “Since all of our guests took up the rooms, we were able to use the dining area and kitchen for our catering.”
"The welcoming community was a huge bonus!"
- Kris
It was a group effort from family and friends, with Dakota’s uncle catering in Blue Coast Burrito, an aunt who made gorgeous decorated pumpkins for centerpieces, a friend who did all the invitations and designs, another friend who played the piano during the ceremony, a guest who helped with bartending and they personally built their own playlist for the evening.
“The entire day was a memory in itself! We planned this small wedding and it came together so perfectly in ways we couldn’t even have imagined. We can’t talk about one memory without going into a story about another. It was
the best way to start our marriage,” said Kris. “We went for the church, family tradition and fall colors, but what we didn’t expect was how big of a role the community of Washington Island would play into making our wedding possible and all the fun memories made.”
