Trained since childhood in the entrancing sounds of traditional Tuvan music, the three members of Alash Tuvan Ensemble have a unique passion and talent for spreading the mesmerizing music of their Asian homeland to the rest of the world. The three musicians who make up Alash — Bady-Dorzhu Ondar, Ayan-ool Sam, and Ayan Shirizhik — have won numerous international awards in Tuvan throat singing, a technique that allows vocalists to sing multiple pitches at one time. Ensemble members also play a variety of traditional Tuvan instruments, creating an overall musical experience the Washington Post calls “absolutely stunning.”
