I know I do. My trike is near completion and I have taken it for a test spin...awesome feeling! It’s nice to have the wind in my hair again. At one point in time I thought I would never ride again, much less have hair...both are very nice. There will be a full story of the tike build with photos in the next issue of BB. Thanks to Gary, Gregg, Big Will & all The Crew at The Biker Barn for all they have done.

All of us at Behind Barz Mag would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy, & prosperous New Year! Remember, your faith, your health & your family & friends are the most important things you can have in your life. If one of those three things are missing, you will truely be unhappy. It was a crisp autumn evening; one of the first of the season, when I headed over to the home of Mike Kemmeries, who is the founder of No Rules Riders. Specifically I wanted to find out how this simple concept of riding motorcycles with groups of people who do not abide by any sort of rules or regulations for the group has thrived for over ten years.

Amazingly it not only thrives, but flourishes beautifully like an ameba, on its own can and does.

By Maire O’Connor I pulled up to a two story house and stepped onto an inviting front porch with potted flowers and art artifacts. Mike Kemmeries opened the door greeting me with his always effervescent smile. Two “Benji” type dogs were excitedly running around barking as a sort of greeting to the new visitor who was about to invade their territory. A grandfather clock ticked with strength in the background. Mike explained his wife Wynne was out with their daughter Rebecca and her daughter’s friend Deanna shopping. Mikes other daughter, Morgan, is away at college.

Stepping inside of the house I saw warm colors on the walls, a beautiful brick fireplace and a huge stained glass piece that was built inside a wall and could be seen translucently from either the kitchen or the family room.

This house reflected what a home should look and feel like when it is rooted in care and love. I instantly felt very comfortable.

Mike gestured me to take a seat at the couch where I was momentarily to learn more about the man and the inception of this organization.

Mike Kemmeries was born in Concord California and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated college in Lafayette, Louisiana. Mike says with a smile that he went to college for “a little bit”, “sat out”, “went back” and eventually

graduated. He met his wife Wynne at the same college he attended and Wynne now teaches elementary school in the Raleigh, N.C. area.

Mike works as a firefighter and I am curious to find out how he wound up in that profession. He says it was “just a series of events as most people’s lives are” that eventually led him to become a full fledged fire fighter. In college one of Mike’s goals was to get on with a big company, work up and make big money. Eventually the Kemmeries moved to the Raleigh area where Wynne had family and Mike started working for Coca Cola. He soon began to realize he didn’t really care for the “suit and tie thing” and how big business is run. As Mike gets up to shoo one of the dogs away he says“I kind of went on a soul search of what I really wanted to do in life. It took me until I was 25 or 30 before I realized I wanted to be a firefighter.” As he sits back down on the couch he tells me he wanted to be employed doing something exciting. “Instead of going out and taking a bunch of drugs I can go fight fires and get the same kind of rush” he says with a big grin.

I can’t help but wonder how a wife would feel about her husband taking a dramatic decrease in salary to follow a different path.

“My wife Wynne knew I was unhappy with what I was doing. She knew I was out soul searching, trying to figure out the direction of what I wanted to do with my life. She was with me one hundred percent. I had been independent of my parents for a long time but even still they couldn’t understand why I took a twelve thousand dollar pay cut per year to become a fire fighter.”

Even though the money was there it seemed like an ordinary job. Mike began to realize he wanted to do something that was more fun and exciting with his career. He had seen firefighters coming in and out of the grocery store where he had a regular route and got to know some of them. He began to feel that he too, could do what they were doing and do it well. While working for Coca Cola he filled out an application with the fire department in Raleigh. He applied twice. There are both written and physical agility tests. The first time Mike did well on the written exam but just average on the physical agility test.

Mike tells me, “You can’t be average on the physical part; you have to be the cream of the crop.” So Mike took to the task of getting on with the fire department on his second try.

He would work fourteen hour days at Coca Cola, come home, and run three miles every day. The next physical agility test he took he finished at the very top and was hired on. He has now been a firefighter for 15 years.

We switch from talking about his present career to the real reason I am sitting there which is to find out about his love of riding.

As Mike takes that proverbial trip down memory lane he says, “We used to live in Texas and then we moved to Louisiana. We’d always drive every summer from Louisiana to Arizona to visit my grandparents, which was a long haul.” Boredom in the station wagon with mom, dad and three siblings resulted in Mike daydreaming out the window, picturing himself on a motorcycle riding up and down the hills in the mountains on interstate 10.

Eventually, Tim Miller, the other half of No Rules Riders thought opening it up to the internet was going to create a host of headaches even though the group would probably take off. Having a true love of riding he didn’t want his rides jaded by potential problems from this expanded group.

Eventually with nothing but good will for the group he decided to leave the decision to expand No Rules Riders’ up to Mike.

No Rules Riders from the Raleigh and Durham Chapters

The first bike that Mike owned was here in Raleigh about 13 yrs ago. He did ride dirt bikes in New Orleans in high school with a friend. He would ride his buddy Daryl’s bike until one day he sold it. A few years later when Mike went off to college his roommate got a bike but wound up wrecking and got “banged up”. Mike started having second thoughts about getting a bike for himself. Then an acquaintance of his who Mike used to party with got into a freakish wreck.

“The guy was at a party and went out for some beer. Since most bikes don’t have storage space he wound up putting a 6 or 12 pack of Heinekens under his jacket and when he wrecked all of the bottles broke into his chest.

He bled out and it killed him.” Mike started thinking that maybe riding a motorcycle wasn’t the smartest thing he could do because as he told me, “I‘m not the safest person in the world and sometimes I make bad decisions.

Mike stated, “I’m a pretty independent person.

I realize at work you have to listen to your boss in order to get paid. But on your days off if you ride for the feeling of freedom, I don’t want a boss while I’m riding. I’m not about to pay money to ride with someone and I’m not going to go be told what to do when I’m on my bike.” Counter to that statement he also tells me he isn’t about to get into anybody else’s business concerning riding.

The more they looked at riding groups the more the word “rules” kept coming up, a seemingly contradiction in terms. “Everybody had rules, rules, and rules…just too many rules!” What came out of that was the decision to start a group without ANY rules, Mike emphasizes. Thus came the name “No Rules Motorcycle Club” which eventually was changed to “No Rules Riders”. “I spent a lot of time on it and a lot of headaches did result. However, it was and is still very, very rewarding to see the growth and the amount of people I have met. Most of the extremely close friends I have now I’ve met because of No Rules Riders’. I would not have the depth of the friendships I have had it not been for this organization.”

To try to understand what this group stands for is like trying to pick the proverbial needle out of the haystack. But it is a challenge and actually in some respects really does pick the brain. “There are no rules or requirements “ the founder of this group says with a relaxed smile on his face. He goes on to explain that a chapter can have one member or one hundred. There are no dues or fees, no meetings, no presidents, no head honchos and there are no paid positions. Everybody does everything for free, including Mike.

The webmaster is a personal friend of Mikes and he is quick to point out that without the website No Rules’ Riders would probably not exist. Virtually anything that is done for the organization is done for free except for the purchase of patches and t-shirts. You can be a No Rules Rider and not sign up on the internet and still be a part of the organization.

Sounds strange doesn’t it, yet the great thing is, it works.

As the interview comes to a cIose I ask Mike if there is anything he wants to say from the heart about No Rules Riders, his “baby” for over ten years now. He takes a moment and slowly focuses on his thoughts. He tells me he thinks the name and the Mission Statement draws like-minded people. “The people of No Rules Riders seem to be very self-confident and do not carry around big egos. The people who are attracted to No Rules Rider’s are people who are NOT attracted to being called the “President” of the group, or “the man in charge”. They are also people who don’t want to be taking orders while they are enjoying the freedom and beauty of being on a bike.”

There is a momentary silence and then in an instant his grandfather clock starts clanging the 20th hour of the day and Mike says, “My vision for No Rules Rider’s has continued the way I wanted it to, and that is that everybody is equal. If you want to lead, you just have to ride faster than everyone else. If others follow, that’s their choice. I really think when everyone rides together we don’t want or need a pecking order.”

Mike goes on to further explain that with any group as big as this one there has to be a little bit of organization, but he is quick to point out it is not a “rule” or “regulation”. “If someone creates a chapter there is a certain amount of work that goes into it. That person usually can do things on their website that other people cannot do, like erase photos that were put up if they are inappropriate. If you create a chapter you have a certain amount of oversight because you started up the chapter.

But again, it is pointed out to me that just because a person started up a chapter does not make him or her the boss or leader of the group. Mike says, “Run it the way you want it, without rules, while being decent and respectful of other people.”

Mike walks me outside and his wife Wynne pulls up in the car with their teenage daughter and her friend after an evening of shopping. Packages in tow everyone piles out of the car. Eventually Mike’s lovely wife tells me her husband is going to be heading to the lake somewhere that evening around midnight on a work night, with the two kids to watch the Lenoir meteor shower. It seems every year the earth passes through a meteor belt and Mike enjoys watching, he says, “One of the natural wonders, as the meteors shower down on the earth. “ Wynne explains this is another thing Mike enjoys, to sit by a lake at midnight with the solitude of nature, waiting for a natural phenomenon to occur. Mike glances over at Wynne and smiles through his eyes. Wynne is the woman who has supported her man all of these years which has greatly helped No Rules Rider’s to grow and thrive. Anyone who knows Mike also knows Wynne.

She is frequently with him and has supported his love of riding for many years now. We all say, “Goodnight” and I begin to drive home. On the way back to my destination I start to think of Mike’s love of riding steel as a “wonder” he greatly enjoys, and so is his family and the wonderful organization known as, No Rules Riders.

Nash County Southern Iron Party On September 10th, Southern Iron of Nash County held a party at Batchelor’s Tavern in Spring Hope, NC. Although gates opened at noon, with the threat of rain in the forecast, the party started off rather slow. However, after a few short sprinkles during the day the clouds dissipated and the party goers started arriving.

By 5:30pm the grilled chicken that was being cooked for the hungry guests was ready. Along with the grilled or barbecued chicken, they served up snaps, baked beans, potatoes, brownies and pound cake. The guys at the grill (Stump, Peewee, and Eddie, while being supervised by Ricky Carroll) did a great job on the chicken and sides.

As the evening progressed, new arrivals began showing up. Everyone arriving early enough to get a table were the lucky ones. For the house was packed. Friends of Southern Iron and regulars of Batchelor’s Tavern started filling up the bar to the point that standing room only would be an understatement. With approximately 250 attendees the Tavern was bursting at the seams, waiting for the band— Doghouse Retreat, to start playing. The band gave the growing crowd a small sample of what was to come during the sound check with a song. This intensified the eager crowds lingering desire for the band to start their first set. Around 9pm the band started up, electrifying the crowd to cheers.

After the first set and the band went on break the drawings for the 50/50 and gun raffle were done. The winner of the 50/50 drawing was ‘Wolf’ from Wilson County Southern Iron. The winner for the 835 Mossberg Turkey Shoot gun was pulled— and the winner was Goobie Lancaster. Although Goobie was not present he was called and informed his ticket had been drawn, so arrangements could be made for him to pick up the shotgun. Congratulations to both the lucky winners.

Doghouse Retreat

Once the drawings were done the crowd made a mad dash to the already filled bar area looking for their drink of choice. Kimberly Sykes, bartender for the night, was aided by Doug the owner of Batchelor’s, insuring the thirsty crowd was served promptly, so they could get back to their chairs or where ever they could find to stand for the band to start back up.

During the evening Southern Iron offered Support shirts for $20.00 and helmet stickers for a $1.00 to whomever was interested. The Club did an excellent job throughout the evening, while the Doghouse Retreat served up the music for the eager crowd till closing time.

With great food, exceptional tunes, two big winners, and a fantastic turnout for the evening, Nash County Southern Iron pulled off a GREAT TIME for all attending, with the help from Batchelor’s Tavern.

The Cushman Club of America’s 28th National Meet

The Cushman Club of America’s 28th National Meet will be June 14th through the 18th in Legendary Sturgis, South Dakota. This year everyone is invited to ”Come Play where the Big Boys Play”. The weeks activities will begin with an early bird trip to the Mount Rushmore lighting ceremony on Sunday evening, June 13. At the monument the past Presidents of the club will be honored for all their dedication and hard work. The meet will officially open on Monday morning, June 14 with a ceremony at the Sturgis Armory...and on that day, Main Street will be closed and the Cushmans will be parked on it just like Rally Week in August.

Photo towers will be set up and awards will be given out to the top 20 bikes on Main Street by The Sturgis Chamber of Commerce, The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum, The Jack Pine Gypsies and the Sturgis Rally Committee. Professional photos will be taken of the bikes on Main Street and will be available for sale.

Tuesday will be the longest sanctioned ride in the history of the Cushman Club of America. At 6AM 100 Cushman scooters will leave Sturgis for Hill City, Keystone, Iron Mountain Road, The Needles Highway and back to Sturgis via Vannocker Canyon. The Ride will return with an awards ceremony at the Knuckel Saloon. Tuesday is also the day the Highlander Honeys, (The Female Scooter Riders of the club) will be having their ride to Bear Butte, and also a meeting following the ride. Plus, a ride to Belle Fourche for those who do not ride the “Rough Riders Ride.” Wednesday will be a ride to Spear Fish Canyon, and in the evening a ride to FT Meade.

Following that there will be a big Buffet Dinner and Dance at the Knuckle Saloon.

Jeff did the restoration on it himself and he finished it 10 years ago. The above photo was taken 2 years ago in Hutchinson, Kansas where it took 2nd place in People’s Choice.

Thursday will be the annual Business meeting and in the afternoon the Ever Popular “Scooter Games” hosted by the game masters Bill, Ray and Don Durham from Georgia. The games will be held in the rodeo arena in the Knuckle Saloon.

All during the week there will be many activities for both young and old alike. Scooter School for the kids is very popular with the youth of the club - anyone ages 10 to 16 can come to the classes and learn restoration techniques and riding safety. Those who attend at least 90% of the classes will be able to have a chance to win a fully restored Cushman Highlander!

There are even seminars for older “Kids,” a judged scooter show, parts and scooter vendors, plus so much more.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meet, however, all club sanctioned rides are limited to members of the club in good standing.

Monday –World tavern , Wednesday –Pool tournament, Friday –Live music Bootleggers Bar and Grill (formally Double D’s) is Fremont’s newest Bar and grill. Located in the heart of Freemont, N.C., just of of Hwy 117. This establishment is a family venture of three generations of women - mother, daughter, and granddaughter, all working hard to make this place their own. They are currently giving the bar a complete makeover with some of the best deals around! So if you are in Fremont and want a cold beer, quick bite to eat, or if you want to shoot a game of pool, Bootleggers is the place to be. As I listened to Janice explain their plans for the bar I was thoroughly impressed. So, watch out for big things to come! They are currently hosting World Tavern Poker on Mondays, a pool tournament on Wednesdays and live music by Fremont’s own Tyler Davis on Fridays . They also have specials, like $1 beer on Tuesdays and Thursdays, $5 buckets, and .25cent chicken wings on Sundays. This place is the best bang for the buck, not to mention thy have a real friendly family atmosphere. Bootleggers is a Biker friendly bar, “ We want to make everyone feel like they are Home Here” (Janice Orander) Hog or Horse, everyone is welcome here! BIKER BARN OPEN HOUSE Gary & The Crew at The Biker Barn held their Open House and Customer Appreciation Day on 17 October 09. Hundreds came out for the annual event. Bruce and the boys (Hog, Stan & Frank) cooked up some mean porkchops, hot dogs, & barbeque, as always...and the fixins to go with it. Miss Alma made her ‘world famous’ nanner puddin’...that didn’t last long!

This day was also set aside to help Doobie raise money to trike her bike. Gary & The Crew, with the help of many bikers, sold tickets for chances to win lots of awesome prizes. Thanks to everyone who came out in support and those who bought tickets in advance. The ticket sale was a hug success and Doobie’s bike is being triked as this issue goes to press. A full story will be in the next issue of Behind Barz with all the info and build photos of the trike.

Halloween at The Copper Kettle

It’s always a good time at The Kettle! Owners, Roy and Cathy Platzke always make every visit exciting. Cathy is the chef - her specialty, food!

I particularly like the seafood. They serve up some of the best seafood dishes around! They have full ABC permits and live entertainment most evenings. I know I have ranted and raved about The Kettle many times before but I can’t help it...It is one of my favorite restaurants! They are also located in one of my favorite towns in the whole wide world, Boydton, VA! Boydton is nestled in the center of Mecklenburg county, VA., just 80 miles north of Raleigh, N.C. and five minutes west or south of the John H. Kerr Reservoir (locals call it Bugs Island Lake). This is where you will find the Roanoke River and over 106,000 acres of land and lake. They have year round cottages and camping available.

The Porters With over 30 recreation areas, hiking trails, a marina, beaches, picnic areas and some Roy of the most scenic roads in the eastern US. That makes Boydton, VA., a great Brady destination and just one more reason to plan a trip to The Copper Kettle!

We stopped in to see Roy and Cathy at The Kettle for Halloween, had ourselves an awesome meal and was entertained by Roy at the bar and Chase Bowes on the guitar - awesome musician! It was a spooktacular time!

The Copper Kettle will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year and to show their appreciation, will be having a Pig and Oyster Roast on Sunday the 14th of March, 2010. You need to mark this Chase one on your calendar because it’s an event you don’t want to miss! BB Aproved!!!

“The 2009 Ina Fitts Toy Run”

“The 2009 Ina Fitts Toy Run” was a success! Thanks to all of you who helped to get the word out. Ina Fitts had a very caring and loving heart for children, especially at Christmas time.

Because of Ina’s and others caring, the “Run” was started in the fall of 1995 to help the Smithfield, N.C. Salvation Army Corp give toys to needy children at Christmas. When Ina died, due to a lung disease, at age 59, the event was named after her as a “memorial” to her and the love she had for the children.

Even with inclement weather, 60 or more riders and others showed up for the “Run”. We loaded up at Team Power Sports in Garner, rode to the dealership in Smithfield while picking up more riders, and then on to Walmart where we shopped for more toys. While we were in Walmart, children would run over and talk to our Santa. As we rode through other shopping centers, with Santa leading the way, shoppers enjoyed watching us. When we arrived at the Salvation Army, we were welcomed with a Christmas Tree, hot food, and good fellowship.

The 2010 tour season is upon us and the motorcycle industry has not been immune to the economic climate. Many bike builders, manufacturers and ancillary vendors who sell clothing, food and other complimentary items have closed their doors. The direct result of these hard times has manifested in less custom bikes and fewer vendors at shows, expos, rallies and events. Enthusiast who have historically attended several rallies are now forced to pick between one or another, a perfect example of this was the turnout in Laughlin.

“The 2009 Ina Fitts Toy Ru Those of us who remain must work together. Without the enthusiastic, passionate men and women who have participated in the American Motorcycle Rally scene our subculture will suffer dramatically.

In light of the change in today’s economic crisis there are things that can all do together to ride out the storm. Several cities including Daytona have slashed prices on accommodations; however if you wait until a week or two before the event you’ll find even better deals, and always negotiate! If you trailer your bike make sure that your trailer is at capacity to share fuel expenses. Promoters also need to step up and tighten their belts. They need to start comping spaces to the bike builders that are toughing it out and discount spaces to the rest of the vendors.

If vendors and builders don’t show up bikers wont show up, if bikers don’t show up… game over. On the other hand if a rally is packed with custom bikes, exciting entertainment and unique vendors attendance will be high. This is the only way to rebuild our industry without letting it slip away forever. Let’s be real here, the bubble has burst we need to get together and protect our way of life even if we have to give up some profits for a while. Lets remember why we chose to be part of this culture.

There is a new symbol on the horizon...The Honor and Remember Flag.

Honor and Remember was founded by George Lutz.

George lost his son George Anthony (Tony) Lutz II December 29, 2005 in Iraq. After Tony’s death George realized that there was not a national symbol to honor or nations fallen service members. With that in mind George not only designed the Honor and Remember Flag but he also set out on a mission to see this flag become a national symbol as well.

The Blue Star represents active service in military conflict. This symbol originated with World War I, but on this flag it signifies service in all wars from the American Revolution to present day.

The White Border surrounding the gold star recognizes the purity of sacrifice. There is no greater price an American can pay than to give his or her life in service to our country.

The Gold Star signifies the ultimate sacrifice of a warrior in active service who will not return home. Gold reflects the value of the life that was given.

The Folded Flag signifies the final tribute to an individual life that a family sacrificed and gave to the nation.

The Flame is an eternal reminder of the spirit that has departed this life yet burns on in the memory Kathy Moore’s son, CPL Ryan Russell of all who knew and loved the fallen hero.

Mission: To create, establish and promote a nationally recognized flag that would fly continuously Lt - Rt Lori Southerland (NC State member), Brenda Ike, (VA. State Director), Kathy Moore showing off the as a visible reminder to all Americans of the lives lost in defense of our national freedoms. The Red Field represents the blood spilled by the brave men and a woman in America’s military through-out our history, who willingly gave their lives so that we all would remain free.

On October 24, 2009 a group from Ayden received their official chapter proclamation to become a state chapter. This is only the second official chapter Virginia being the first.

Benefit for DJ

Saturday, October 24th was a remarkable day! That is the day that local bikers, friends and family of DJ Firestone gathered at Good Tymes in Rocky Mount, N.C. Horace and his wife, Barbara, of The Good Tymes Club held a poker run and raffle benefit for DJ. She is battling breast cancer.

Many bike related items were auctioned off, as well as, many home baked goods. Chris Gates was the big spender of the auction, buying the majority of the baked goodies. DJ’s dad won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to his daughter.

There was also an auction for a date with Sharon that was won by “Bo Dick”. He had the winning bid of $70.

Entertainment was provided by DJ Erma.

On Saturday, November 20th, friends and family held a brunswick stew sale for DJ at The Good Tymes Club. It was the almost world famous (Papa’s Recipe). The night before the sale, folks were working diligently to clean, peel & cut potatoes and prepair all the other ingredients for the stew.

Over 200 pounds of potatoes went into making the stew.

That’s a lot of peeling!!! Over 500 quarts of stew were sold.

Needless to say, the stew was sold out and it sold out early!

These two events were a huge success! Thanks to everyone who helped in the planning and all those who participated.

I have some Gr8 friends. The fund raiser was a success. We raised $3,564.00.& they are still looking out for me. I want to thank HORACE JOYNER, Barbara Joyner, Mike & Tammy Wall, of course my handsome honey, Shawn Schnitkey & everyone who helped in the organizing. All the stops on the poker run: Good Tymes, RM Harley Davidson, Tippettes, Batchelors, & Carolina Billards. It is so gr8 to know I have such wonderful friends & now I have so many more.

I recently went for me second round of chemo. This is hard. It disrupts everything. I have always been tough. It is a blessing to know that when I am weak I have such Gr8 friends to carry me.

On a positive note, I passed the motorcycle class @ Nash Communty College. I was able to get my motorcycles license before I lost my hair.

I am a retired Wake Co. EMS Paramedic and my wife, Sandi, is a nurse at WakeMed Trauma Center. I had met Flip several times and my wife worked with him even more than I in her work at W. Med. Through my past work with EMS I knew MANY people who knew and worked with Flip and was deeply touched by the outpouring of love being shown for Flip and his family.

I created “The Friends For Flip” website www.friendsforflip.com as a way to get people information on Raleigh Fireman Lt. Harry “Flip” Kissinger as he struggled for his life in WakeMed after an early morning collission with a Wake County School Bus. The family was at the hospital day and night by his side and I felt a fundraiser benefit to help pay for expenses not covered by insurance would be a great way to help out. I talked with my cover band Triple Threat’s members www.triplethreatband.net and then the one of the owners of Sportspage Knightdale, www.knightdalesportspage.com Billy McGee and a date was chosen for the event on Saturday Dec 26th 2009.

I also play with a band that leans more towards original music called Kabin Fiva. www.kabinfivaband.com We had not been “together” for sometime and were just talking about reforming as this incident with Flip began. We had recorded a song we wrote called “Old Photographs” and I saw so many pictures on the Prayers for the Kissinger Family facebook site that I sat down to make a video memorial for Flip.

It took me over 12 hours to synchronise the video with the pictures to get the feel I was looking for. After posting the video on the Friends for Flip website I would say it was worth the effort. I have gotten so many wonderful responses from his family, friends and co-workers as well as people who did not know Flip. Those that did not know him have commented that they felt like they knew him after watching the video and seeing the outpouring of love to the family on Facebook. The benefit idea and the video took on a life of its own with over 3,200 hits on the website and thousands more on youtube. I got requests for Kabin Fiva to play Old Photographs at the benefit and this spurred us to ramp up the reunion of the band, we added new lead vocalsit booked some studio time and got ready for the benefit.

I also contacted a friend of mine, Mark Roberts of WRAL TV and Capital Ford, who is also a very accomplished drummer and asked him to sit in on some songs with both bands and to help MC the event, he was more than willing to help and did a fantastic job on all accounts.

Sadly Flip died from his injuries one week later. His organs were donated to help save the lives of others. It was quickly decided that since Flip was such a fan of music and concerts that the event would now be a “Celebration of Life Benefit” Jill and Hannah surrounded by members of Triple Threat Band and Mark Roberts.

Many business donated door prizes, time and money to the family and the event to make it a success. Flip’s wife Jill and oldest daughter Hannah were at the event and it was packed. There was a $5.00 donation taken at the door, people were waiting patiently outside as the venue was filled beyond capacity most of the night. A biker group whos name I do not know came by and donated $100.00 to help the cause.

Over all it was beyond a success, so many people came together to show respect and support for this great man and his family. The most amazing thing to see has been Jill Kissingers faith and courage throughout this ordeal.

Her love for Flip and their girls should give hope to us all.

Since Flip loved music so much we made him an honorary member of Kabin Fiva and 25% of proceeds from Old Photographs downloads at I-Tunes will be given to his family.

The Wilson, N.C. CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Chapter) wanted to do something different this Christmas and that was to give some good tidings to those going through difficult times. We set out and delivered Christmas dinners to six families. Two were shut ins because of their health issues; one was out of work for over six months (this was after moving to this area with a promise of a job and then the job offer fell through during the move). Another was delivered to the Baptist Church on Raleigh Road in Wilson, N.C. and we ended up praying for one of the workers in the church because of the hardships she had gone through, working tirelessly for the Church’s Christmas Program - without complaint. Another dinner went to a family that has a member who had just gotten a job after months of not having any work.

Finally, the last dinner went to a divorced mother (Parent) who was finishing her Christmas shopping for her two children. We had to give the dinner to her in the WalMart parking lot because of an urgent call for a hospital visitation for one of our members.

The 7th Annual Guardians of The Cross Cancer Fund Run in Memory of Jean Bobbitt was held on Nov. 7th, 2009. Registration was at Cornerstone Vineyard Church in Rocky Mount, N.C.

After registartion, fellowship & prayer, everyone went on a scenic ride to the fire dept. in Castalia, were everyone ate a hot meal. Door prizes were given away and a 50/50 raffle was held.

All proceeds were given to local cancer survivors to help offset medical expenses.

Greetings from Pastor Thumper to all my brothers and sisters in the biker world. As you all are aware, Thanksgiving and Christmas have come into season. As I ride around on my bike to the bars, clubs, bike shops, and churches, I notice that in our biker world being M/C, ride groups, Christian ride clubs, or enthusiast, all have a heart to serve the less fortunate. It is just in our hearts to do for others. I am proud to call myself a biker and I call myself a brother to all clubs and ride groups. With this said, allow me to explain. As a Pastor I must carry myself in a manor that you would respect.

Especially in all the places that I travel. You see most churches and Christians look down on my travels, but that is another story. When I visit our M/C houses, bars, and shops I am treated with the upmost respect from the members and friends of these areas. More so than some churches I visit. You see, a true Biker has a respect, friendship, and comrodery that most people cannot understand. It is called a Brotherhood. What makes this special you may ask? When a family is in need or some children have nothing for Christmas, maybe someone needs a meal for their family, or maybe because of an injury or illness bills have fallen behind. You can bet a biker club or a ride group will be the first to step up to the wheel to meet these needs. Not only step up but they do not let the weather or time needed to fill the needs stand in the way. Rain or shine you will see bikes out and labor through many hands used to complete a task. You do not see this in many churches. Let me give you some information you might not know. In the Wilson, Nash, and Green Counties there are over 800 registered churches within these three counties. In the same counties we have only an estimate of 32 bars and or clubs, and 8 motorcycle clubs. If you look around during the Christmas season there are many many toy runs and benefits that are planned all throughout the year. Who do you see in the cold, rain and wind but a person on a motorcycle? Remember, we only have 8 clubs and a handful of bars in the area. Who is it that comes out of their comfort zone to help with the needs of others? Oh yes, bikers. I am not saying that our area churches do not help, they are not as “hands on� as a biker club or bars are willing to be. What a blessing this is for the needy.

If a church could grasp the respect, fellowship and brotherhood of a biker club, and understand we are all human with the same wants and needs of each other, a church could take over a town within a week.

Now in the same frame, if the biker world could understand the love of Jesus Christ we would have more bikers riding Heaven bound. I am in prayer that all my brothers and sisters that hold the handle bars of a bike will ride in safety and be blessed by our Saviour Jesus Christ and that our church families will come to undrestand the biker and learn from them a true brotherhood that we all should strive for. Let us work on this together as a new year comes into season. While the winter weather comes in and the spring looms in the future, let us keep our bikes oiled and tires checked. May we also check our hearts and plan for a great year to come. When we see a brother or sister in need let us as a family fill that need whatever it may be. Know that we are all brothers and sisters of the same love, being motorcyclist. Above all, let us as bikers

be an example of what family and brotherhood really are about by our words, ways, and actions when people see us on our bikes and in public.

Till we meet someplace down the road I pray safety, blessings, and care as we ride the highways and byways of our counties.

If you happen to see Pastor Thumper along the way, give a wave, maybe we can share a beverage, conversation, and even a prayer with each other. Know that where ever your walk in life may be at this time, whatever you may be doing, God loves you unconditionaly and so does Pastor Thumper.

On December 5th, 2009, Batchelor’s of Spring Hope, N.C. held their 16th Annual Toy Run. It was a rainy, cold day but that didn’t stop the overwhelming attendance of folks that stopped by to show their support. Steve Batchelor cooked a pig with gas and one with charcoal (battle of the pigs) to see if which one was really better tasting. The decision was unanimus...it was all good! XXXXXXgrilled up some deer skewers that were awesome -never had deer on a stick before! Lots of door prizes were given away and there were also several homemade quilts and blankets that were raffled off.Santa stopped by - I had no idea he was such a big fella! All the toys were loaded in a trailer and taken to Ephesus Baptist Church.

All cash proceeds went to The Tar River Baptist associa tion Toy Store. Be on the look-out this year for the 17th Annual Batchelor’s Toy Run! It’s a tradition!
