Breaker 1-9

No matter what the challenges, truckers always deliver

We continue to hear a lot of talk in the trucking industry about the “freight recession” and when we might return to “normal”. While I agree that the current market conditions are not sustainable, I would also say trucking is challenging regardless of the market conditions.

I grew up around trucking and have always been a student of the business. I wasn’t around before the industry was deregulated over 40 years ago, so I can’t speak to that era. But I never remember a time when the industry was satisfied with freight rates; regulations; the cost of equipment, fuel, and insurance; and the quantity and quality of the drivers.

Our industry plays a vital role in supporting our communities, businesses, and overall quality of life. We deliver 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days out of the year. We work nights, weekends, and holidays, and provide much needed support during pandemics and natural disasters. And we do this while making massive investments in equipment and technology in the face of increasing liability and regulation.

Trucking has always been a challenge. But I have always remained optimistic.

Ultimately, we owe our success to the dedication of our people who, through it all, continue to get the job done. We also partner with great customers and work hard to earn their business every day.
