FIN Celebrates Provincial Chapter Mary Help of Christians House of Spirituality, Batangas, 24 June 2022– 51 Salesian priests and brothers gathered from 19 to 24 June to celebrate the Provincial Chapter with the theme “Renewed Salesians and Lay for the Youth of Today.”

It commenced in a spirit of prayer and recollection preached by Rev Fr. Lino Gregorio Redoblado, OFM, current Minister Provincial of the Order of the Friars Minor in the Philippines.

His conference zeroed in on Synodal Discernment.

The framework is structured following the three nuclei (i.e., (1) Priority of Salesian Mission among Today’s Young People, (2) Profile of the Salesian Today, and (3) Together with Lay People in Formation and in Mission).

In keeping with the SDB Constitutions, the PC also reviewed and revised the Provincial Directory (art. 171).

"Peggy" Fesariton (SIP), Mr. Mark Geronimo (SYM), and Ms. Bernadette Salonga (DB-Canlubang) served as PC Observers. They are lay mission partners (LMPs) and young people invited from the local settings of the FIN Province to help the Capitulars in their reflection, especially on the lay empowerment and shared responsibility in the mission.

On the eve of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fr. Ronel Vilbar shared with the members of the PC some slice of life in the Sacred Heart Novitiate in the FIN Province with two novices Benjo Mangila (FIN) and Kenji Hasegawa (GIA).

DBYC MABALACAT SEEKERS CONQUER MT. BATULAO Batangas, 25 June 2022—Led by Fr. Dante Valero, Br. Carmelo Martinez, and Cl. Joel Granada, the DBYC Mabalacat Seekers conquered the heights of Mt. Batulao.

This is one of the activities for the group to help them in their discernment journey.

One of the Seekers, Joseph Charles Gomez, shares his reflection below: The muddy trail path and the steep rocky paths served as obstacles to see the beauty of Mt. Batulao. These can also be related to finding greatness inside us.

But when we overcome these hardships, the obstacles that block our way, we’ll see the beauty of what you really want to see deep within.

Don Bosco-Tarlac, Summer of 2022--One essential part of the pastoral formation provided by Seminaryo ng Don Bosco, Parañaque, is to send its formands to different Don Bosco settings for summer apostolate. For many of them, this summer’s exposure was their first immersion beyond the premises of the Seminaryo after more than two years of the pandemic.

Together with Br. David Yan Naing from the Myanmar Province, I was assigned in DBTI Tarlac to help re-organize the DBYC scholars’ weekend activities and mainly, to accompany the Seekers to deepen their sense of vocational discernment, love, and service for God.

Rev. Anthony Vallence (MYM) was invited to give a pre-camp talk on the Meaning of Vocation to the Seekers

One highlight of the program is their summer camp to be held in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, where they will be asked to come up and commit themselves to a project of life.

Every vocation in life, especially the call for consecrated life, is a gift from God, and Salesians are there to empower these young people to open these gifts and respond to them.

Thus, after all these beautiful experiences we had, I truly believe that more than empowering them through structured programs, our mere presence as Salesians is something that they will treasure as they embrace wholeheartedly their own vocations in life.

EAO-SCHOOL OF FORMATION FOR SOCIAL COMMUNICATION

Fr. Eli Cruz is the resource person of the EAO-School of Formation for Social Communication that will be held on July 7 at 1 PM. He will be joined by the brothers of the Postnovitiate Community. Their session zeroes in on the experience of the Oratory apostolate during the covid-19 lockdown which challenged the Salesians, the youth, and the lay mission partners to: (1) Re-root the oratory apostolate to its original vision and vitality, (2) Re-read the oratory apostolate vis-à-vis the tensions of the times, and (3) Re-route the oratory apostolate according to the language and psychology of the digital platform.

Don Bosco Calauan may be a simple community, but this community is a great presence for the impoverished ones in the periphery. During my stay here, there are three important activities that I found valuable.

First is the Feeding Program in collaboration with the benefactors, lay mission partners, and those who volunteer to prepare the food and distribute it to 3,700 impoverished ones two times per day.

Second is the ministry of the Salesian community in running the TechnicalVocational Education and Training (TVET) Center. The Center offers various programs such as Automotive Servicing NCI and NCII, Motorcycle Small Engine Servicing NCII, Electrical Installation Maintenance NCII, and Computer System Servicing NCII.

The third is the Youth Center. This summer, the Youth Center of Don Bosco Calauan launched a summer program which is dubbed “KALARAJUAN” (Kasama sa Larangan si Juan). The summer program aims to help young people in the areas of evangelization and education.

The oratorians were given basic catechesis, and good morning and afternoon talks.

Sports activities such as basketball, football, volleyball, and badminton. They were also taught skills such as guitar playing, visual arts, dance, and theater arts.

It is a beautiful experience for our summer apostolate in Calauan, we are glad to have this experience with the young, poorest, and needy ones.

8th Don Bosco Film Festival

YOUNG FILMMAKERS CREATE AMID THE PANDEMIC

The pandemic did not stop nine youthled production teams to create films for the 8th Don Bosco Film Festival. The theme, "Listen:ng with the h(ear)t," is inspired by three events: (1) The World Communication's Day, (2) 400th Anniversary of the Death of Saint Francis of Assisi, and (3) Synod on Synodality.

This year there are seven short films, one documentary film, and two vertical videos.

The competition for the People's Choice Award is ongoing. Relevant and timely information about this year's DBFF can be viewed through the festival's website: donboscofilmfest.org.
