sher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dominican University of California is an academic program founded in 2004 and supported by a generous endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation, the resources of the University, and member donations and tuition. The program offers four-, six- and eight-week courses, as well as workshops, clubs, and events. Challenging, non-credit liberal arts courses for adults over 50 are taught by experienced professors in the discipline. Homework is not required. There are three categories of membership in OLLI: Basic Members who take between one and five courses spread throughout the year, Session Members who take up to four courses in any one session and Premium Members who take UNLIMITED courses in the fall, winter, and spring sessions. Scholarships are available for members who qualify.
Letter from the Director Dear OLLI member, Since my last letter to you, the entire world has changed, gripped by illness and fear of COVID-19. You and I cannot participate in what we so enjoyed: each other’s in-person company. I am nostalgic for the OLLI experience of Dominican…not only the classes, although they are the heart of our program, but running into you in the hallways, the elevator, or on the campus, chatting about the course, or the weather, or your family. I miss the excitement of being on campus, the pleasure of seeing old and new friends, and working in the office with Calum and Michelle. All this we have lost…but we have no intention of stopping the OLLI program or diminishing its excellence: we are seeking (and sometimes finding) new ways to learn and new ways to get together. We did not choose to move our program to Zoom, but it does have advantages: no traffic jams, no parking anxiety, and no bad weather.
Please feel free to email me at khenderson@dominican.edu with your thoughts and feelings about the program. I would love to touch base and learn how you are doing in this strange new world. Fondly,
Kathie Henderson Director P.S. Thank you so much to all who donated to the Annual Fund! We don’t know the final total yet, but we had an excellent response, so thanks to all.

We have lost for the summer and fall our traditional way of implementing it, but we will not lose the program because you are its critical element; you are its heart and soul. As long as you want OLLI Dominican, there will be OLLI Dominican. You can be assured that we are deeply committed to continuing the intellectual excitement and general excellence of the program.
