President’s Report As many would expect, the major issue currently facing members was discussed at the recent Extraordinary General Meeting held at David Roche Park on 12 August. The meeting was very well attended, with most disciplines represented, and the overall mood of those present was positive. The meeting was also livestreamed, and many of the comments and discussions were captured using AI. A summary was subsequently posted on the Dogs SA Members Facebook page. The main purpose of the meeting was to provide members with accurate information and address many of the rumours that had already begun to circulate, some of which have the potential to be damaging to our Association. There was constructive discussion around the question of whether Dogs SA should remain at David Roche Park or consider relocation. Pro-relocation: Some members raised the possibility of selling the property at its current value and using the proceeds to develop a new, state-of-the-art facility. Suggestions included indoor and outdoor arenas, powered camping sites, training facilities, cafés, veterinary services and other amenities. Pro-staying: Others argued strongly against selling, given the history of the site and the considerable investment that has been made in it over many years. Questions were also raised about the local &RXQFLO·V ORQJ WHUP GHYHORSPHQW SODQV IRU .LOEXUQ DQG WKH LPSRUWDQFH RI XQGHUVWDQGLQJ WKHVH SODQV before any major decision is made. Irrespective of individual views, the underlying question is simple: Can we afford to stay? 7KLV TXHVWLRQ KDV DULVHQ EHFDXVH RI WKH VXEVWDQWLDO LQFUHDVH LQ WKH 9DOXHU *HQHUDO·V UHFHQW YDOXDWLRQ of the property, from $5.8 million to $19.7 million. As a consequence, our annual rates and taxes are H[SHFWHG WR LQFUHDVH IURP WR DSSUR[LPDWHO\ LQ WKH ² ÀQDQFLDO \HDU Quite simply, an increase of this magnitude is not sustainable. Council has made no decision regarding whether remaining at David Roche Park or relocating is the preferred option. Several avenues are currently being pursued in an effort to reduce the impact of the increased rates and taxes before any decisions are considered. Council has made a clear commitment to keep members informed as further information becomes available. In the meantime, it remains business as usual. Members seeking further information are encouraged to contact their elected Council members. Virtual Trick Dog Invitation Dear Kennel Club Friends, For the past seven years the American Kennel Club has held an annual Virtual Trick Dog Competition. This year we have added an International class to this popular event and we would like to extend an invitation to dog owners to participate from those countries with which we have a mutual cooperation relationship. PRESS RELEASE International Virtual Trick Dog Competition Following the announcement of the mutual cooperation agreement between Dogs Australia and the American Kennel Club (AKC), Australia has received an invitation to participate in the annual International Virtual Trick Dog Competition organised by the AKC. CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $5000 (07/22)
As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association: 1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required. 2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16) 3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce. 4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases. 5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20) (a) No bitch owned by me and/or under my control be mated before she is twelve months of age or older as prescribed in the ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6. (04/25) (b) No bitch can be whelped more than twice in any 18-month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (04/25) (c) No mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings are allowed. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25) (d) No bitch is allowed more than 5 litters in her lifetime. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog, I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19) 8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health. 9. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12) 10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements. 11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned.
