President’s Report There has been no advancement on the issue confronting our Association now which is the matter pertaining to the Valuer Generals (VG) current valuation on the property owned by us. The 2 responses we have had so far are as follows: •
A formal response has been received from the VG in relation to their current valuation. The result being they have confirmed their current valuation as being current and will not be reduced.
•
A response from the Port Adelaide Enfield Council (PAE) is that they have reviewed our submission for a rate rebate in accordance with the Local Government Act and confirmed they applied a 25% rebate on our rates for the 26/27 FY.
We are waiting on responses from the office of the Premier and the Treasurer in relation to an exemption to the payment of the Land Tax which is the prime concern to us. Now that we have had responses from the VG and PAE we can advance these negotiations further. I must reiterate that no decision has been made on whether we are selling the property or if we are going to review relocating to another site. The members will be fully informed and involved in any decisions moving forward. The Vice President (Peter Thompson) and I attended the Annual General Meeting of Dogs Australia and the Board meeting. Although I cannot go through the specifics of the meetings, I can advise that Mr Hugh Gent OAM has resigned as President of Dogs Australia with effect 23 October 2026. Mrs Pam Cambell (President Dogs West) has been appointed as the acting President of Dogs Australia until the February Board meeting. We wished Hugh and his family all the best for the future and thanked him for his 28 years as President of Dogs Australia. The matter of the Champion class was further progressed, and it is expected that an information document will be distributed and information sessions provided for members to consider and provide feedback on the proposal. This will be handled through the member bodies and not through Dogs Australia to avoid the confusion which occurred during the last survey. Nominations for the Council elections closes on 30 October and I wish all those that have nominated all the best in their ambitions to become an elected Councillor of Dogs SA. Also, once the nominations are released, I would ask all members to consider what each of the candidates has to offer our Association. With what is affecting us now this is very important. FLYBALL NATIONALS
The weekend of the 26th & 27th September the Flyball Nationals were held at the Bendigo Showgrounds, Bendigo, Victoria.
SA was represented by 4 Teams, 1 from Dover Gardens Kennel & Obedience Dog Club and 3 from Para District Obedience Dog Club. The 22 dogs competed over 4 divisions over the two days. There was a total of 9 Divisions: 46 Teams and a total of 270 Races.
Teams/Clubs enter as either Regular Racing or Open Racing. Regular Racing team members most belong to the same Club and the jump heights are set at the height for the shortest dog in that race. Open Racing can have a dog from either the same Club or from different Clubs combined to make up a team and jumps can be set anywhere from 7 inches to 14 inches (usually Open Races at 7 inches). Teams are separated into divisions based on a seed time entered on entries. The seed time is the time (less 0.5 seconds) that the 4 fastest dogs will complete the race in. This makes racing fair and even. If there is a large discrepancy in times the race will be handicapped with the slower team starting before the quicker team. Each SA Team was in a different division with 2 Teams, Cruised’ Over & Para Medics racing in Regular Racing and the other 2 teams: Para Barking Brigade & Para Swaggers in Open Racing.
Racing was held indoors on matting. This was a new experience for most of the SA dogs (some did race at last year’s Nationals on matting). In SA we race/train outside and on grass. Teams/Clubs were also set up in the same building where the racing occurred. This made for a very loud weekend.
Cruised’ Over was in Regular Division 4 against 6 other teams and competed in 2 round robins. The team consisted of Arlo (handled by Libby), Ben (handled by Ron), Loki (handled by Jordan), Clay (handled by Jordan) & Tona (handled by Virginie).
Para Medics was in Regular Division 6 against 5 other teams and competed in 3 round robins. The team consisted of Eddie (handled by Carmel), Mia (handled by Judi), Dusty (handled by Brett), Charli (handled by Sarah), Zoe (handled by Karen) & Sasha (handled by Scott). Para Barking Brigade was in Open Division 2, racing against 6 other teams and competed in 2 round robins. The team consisted of Ollie (handled by Ray), Callie (handled by Tracey), Tux (handled by Steve), Cea (handled by Belinda) & Baci (handled by Chrissy).
Para Swaggers was in Open Division 3 racing against 4 other teams and competed in 3 round robins. The team consisted of Rumble (handled by Bec), Treble (handled by Alex), Raven (handled by Rachael), Lily (handled by Wendy), Gracie (handled by Jenny) and Quill (handled by Sarah/ Rachael/Alex). We were also supported by Box Loaders; Sharyn & Jess and Ball Shaggers; Trish & Markus.
On Saturday racing started around 8:30am and finished around 7:30pm, a very long day, with 2 rings running simultaneously. At the end of day one, Para Swaggers and Para Barking Brigade were sitting in 1st Place and Para Medics and Cruised’ Over were in 3rd. Para Swaggers winning all their races. Para Barking Brigade winning 5 out of 6 races and Para Medic winning 3 out of 5 races. Sunday racing started around 8:30am and each race was raced enthusiastically by all teams giving it their all. At the end of the day SA had great results from all teams entered. Division 4 – Regular Cruised’ Over

CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $5000 (07/22)
As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association: 1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required. 2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16) 3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce. 4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases. 5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20) (a) No bitch owned by me and/or under my control be mated before she is twelve months of age or older as prescribed in the ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6. (04/25) (b) No bitch can be whelped more than twice in any 18-month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (04/25) (c) No mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings are allowed. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25) (d) No bitch is allowed more than 5 litters in her lifetime. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25) (e) No bitch over 8 years of age can be bred from unless at the time of mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health and suitable for breeding, including carrying and whelping a litter. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (07/26) 6. I shall not knowingly permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA. 7. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog, I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19) 8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health. 9. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12) 10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements. 11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned. (01/12) 12. I shall ensure that every dog in every litter I breed will be registered as required in the SACA Rules. (07/22) Page 15
