President’s Report

The Winter International held in late May attracted a great entry given the economic climate we are now in and was deemed extremely successful by exhibitors. Congratulations to the Committee in organizing this prestigious event. The format for 2027 will be altered slightly with the emphasis not just being conformation but introducing a number of Dog Sports into the program. The committee of the Winter International will soon be meeting with the sporting disciplines to see how this can work.

The Agility Advisory hosted the annual state championships at the Southern Districts grounds in June. Thank you to the Committee for hosting this very successful event which was appreciated by both local and interstate competitors. Dogs SA will be hosting the 2028 Agility Nationals so keep that in mind if you are interested in competing start training now.

A new discipline of Bale Seek is being introduced which is similar to the American or animal components will not be used in the sport. For those interested, please keep to start the program off and a working party will be formed to implement the program into SA.

A. CODE OF ETHICS FOR MEMBERS

Each Member shall comply with the following Code of Ethics and any Member who fails to do so shall be guilty of an offence against these Rules. Maximum Penalty $5000 (07/22)

As a Member of the South Australian Canine Association:

1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly and effectively contained by fencing or enclosure, and are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and given proper Veterinary attention if and when required.

2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large, and, when away from home, ensure they are kept fully leashed and under effective control, or otherwise under effective control at all times. (01/16)

3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality of the breed in line with the breed standard and strive to eliminate hereditary diseases in the breed/s that I produce.

4. I shall strive to have all my breeding stock tested, where tests are available, for hereditary diseases.

5. The health and welfare of a bitch being bred from is of paramount importance and I will adhere to the following minimum standards. (01/20)

(a) No bitch owned by me and/or under my control be mated before she is twelve months of age or older as prescribed in the ANKC Ltd Regulations Part 6 (04/25)

(b) No bitch can be whelped more than twice in any 18-month period without the prior approval of the SACA. (04/25)

(c) No mother/son, father/daughter or brother/sister matings are allowed. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25)

(d) No bitch is allowed more than 5 litters in her lifetime. Puppies from such matings will be registered on the Limited Register and flagged never to be upgraded. (04/25)

(e) No bitch over 8 years of age can be bred from unless at the time of mating there was a current veterinary certificate stating that the bitch is in good health. The veterinary certificate must be presented at the time of registering the litter resulting from this mating. A current veterinarian certificate is defined as a certificate dated within the three months prior to the mating. (04/25)

6. I shall not knowingly permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed, or to a dog of the same breed which is entered on the Limited Register, unless specific permission is given by the SACA.

7. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at six weeks of age and thereby allowing for the ten to fourteen days for the vaccine to take effect. Upon the disposal of the dog, I shall provide the owner with a current vaccination certificate of that dog issued by a Veterinary Surgeon. Accepted Veterinarian vaccination certificates are C3 12/36 months, C4, C5 or an annual Titre Test accompanied by a Veterinarian letter. (01/19)

8. I shall not knowingly sell or otherwise transfer from my care any dog that is not in good health.

9. I shall ensure that any puppy that is to be exported shall be a minimum of eleven weeks of age and micro-chipped. (01/12)

10. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal as defined in Clause 1 and 2 above. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs or those placed by me, written details of all dietary and vaccination requirements and responsible dog ownership and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements.

11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind or to be auctioned. (01/12)

Bale Seek is a relatively new dog sport in Australia where dogs use or hay bales. The dog searches the bale course and indicates when it has found the target scent, while the handler works with the dog as a team.

Where did it come from?

Bale Seek has its roots in the work farm dogs used to do searching barns and storage areas for vermin. Modern Bale Seek

Australian conditions and animal welfare standards. Instead of live quarry, scented tubes are used. The sport has been promoted in Australia in recent years and is now spreading across several states, including South Australia. Is it suitable for all dogs?

Yes. One of the great things about Bale Seek is that it is open to dogs of all breeds, sizes, and mixed breeds. Dogs from toy breeds through to large working breeds have successfully or jumping ability, many dogs can enjoy it regardless of size. Why dogs enjoy it

Vetting Time: Both Days Obedience 8.00am – 8.30am & Rally 11.30am – 11.45am. Bitches without desexing paperwork only. All dogs must pass through checkpoints by close of vetting. Dogs vetted for Obedience are not required to be again for Rally.

Entry Fees: $12.00 per entry (1 class per entry form).

Catalogue: $5.00. Catalogues will be posted on the website: dogobediencesa.auand dog obedience trialing facebook 2 days prior to the event and Show Manager..

Order of Judging: As per catalogue. All rings simultaneously except: Obedience: UDX followed by CCD, Rally : Ring 1: Novice then Excellent Ring 2: Master then Advanced TROPHIES: Prizes for 1st place in each class each day (qualifying only). Trophies for State Champions for each class will be presented at the conclusion of all judging on Sunday.
