Thank you to all of those who completed a submission on the SA Government Your Say Web site in relation to the Draft Standards and Guidelines for the Breeding of Dogs and Cats. As the State government is now in Caretaker mode it can not make changes to legislation so there will be no progress until after the results of the election are declared. Saying this, believe me we are still not out of the woods and will need to keep the pressure up when the election results are known. My suggestion for each and every one of us approach your local MP and their opposition and express your concerns with the proposed changes.
As we have been through a significant hot spell during February the grounds have dried out considerably. This despite increasing the watering frequency and having works completed to improve the irrigation system. The area behind 5 and 6 is improving with the addition of the additional sprinkler station. The area behind 3 and 4 is still an issue and the irrigation provider is returning to improve the area. It is believed part of the problem is the decreasing water pressures around Adelaide and surrounding suburbs. The office is doing all they can to improve the areas however this is a hard task so please be patient.
The Dogs Australia Board meeting was held at the end of February and although I cannot provide the outcomes as yet there were a number of items on the agenda aimed at increasing the participation and enthusiasm in a number of our activities so watch out for the rule changes.
With the irrigation now working better and it has provided a means of getting sufficient water to the proposed Sprint Dog Track we can now recommence working on the track. It has been a long process getting the water but there is now a workable solution.
A reminder that the Dogs SA AGM is scheduled for Wednesday 18 March 2026, start time is 7 pm in the Dogs SA Bar. For those that have read the agenda you would have noticed there is nothing out of the ordinary however should you have any questions on the financial report we would be happy to respond to them. Also as with most Dogs SA AGM depending on the time we will also open the floor after closing the meeting to have an open forum. Should you have a matter you would like discussed please email the Executive Officer at info@dogssa.com.au so an informed can be provided on the night to the members.
With us now being in March and many of the disciplines now starting up their seasons please be courteous to each other as these are only hobbies that we can enjoy with our friends both 2 and 4 legged.

Dogs SA Council anticipates that a Special General Meeting will be convened later in 2026 to consider the Constitution once all relevant documents have been finalised.

OBEDIENCE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
2026 OBEDIENCE & RALLY ANNUAL AWARDS
The qualifying period will be from 1st October 2025 to 30th September 2026.
Results from all trials held in South Australia during this period will be eligible. Results from trials held interstate will not be eligible. Results from Restricted trials will count towards the Top Dog Class Awards, but not for the Top Obedience Dog or Top Rally Dog awards.
Eligibility for these awards:
All competitors are required to lodge “Application for Title” forms with the Dogs SA Office for any titles gained in all classes within the above dates to be considered. Competitors are not allowed to enter a higher class unless titles are granted except CCD and Utility which are optional classes. When titles are granted by the Office your results will be included in this year’s award registers.
A country member cannot be considered for a metropolitan award for an Obedience or Rally class even if they are members of a metropolitan based club. They are still eligible, however, to compete for the Top Obedience Dog and Top Rally Dog awards.
To be eligible for the Country Dog awards the registered owner and the dog must NOT be domiciled closer than 100 kilometres by road from the Adelaide GPO. The registered owner must be a member of an affiliated Country based club and must nominate that club on their trial entry forms.
If the owner/handler or a dog is found guilty of a breach of SACA Rules during the qualifying period they will be ineligible for any award they may have otherwise been entitled to.
OBEDIENCE
TOP OBEDIENCE DOG
The Top Obedience Dog will be awarded to the dog that accumulates the highest number of points in the Open, Utility, Utility Dog Excellent classes during the qualifying period. Only the best 13 results from each class for each dog will be counted.
Points will be awarded on the basis of qualifications and placings gained as detailed below.
Qualifications:
Dog Excellent

TOP COUNTRY OBEDIENCE DOG
The Top Country Obedience Dog will be awarded to the Country dog which scores the most points in the Top Obedience Dog Award.
TOP DOG AWARDS - OBEDIENCE
To be eligible for these awards the dog must have gained the relevant title during the qualifying period. Qualifications gained in prior years will count, as long as the 3rd qualification was gained during the qualifying period.
Top Dog awards will be offered in respect of the following classes:
Community Companion Dog (CCD) Novice (CD), Open (CDX), Utility (UD), Utility Dog Excellent (UDX)
Points will be allocated as follows:
Title points:
Dog

points
Community Companion Dog 10 points
Bonus points for placings gained will also be awarded on the same basis as detailed above for the Top Obedience Dog. The following formula will be used to determine the winning dogs.
The total of the number of title and placing bonus points will be divided by the number of trials in the relevant class the dog competed in to gain its title. This will give an overall score.
For example, if a dog gains its Utility title with 1 first placing, 1 second placing and a third, and competed in 10 trials to achieve its 3 qualifications, its score would be:
Utility title points 40 points
Placing bonus points (20+15+10) 45 points
Total 85 points
Divide by 10 (the total number of trials entered) 8.5 overall score
The dog with the highest overall score in each class will be the Top Dog for that class.
Tied Scores
In the event of tied scores in a particular class, the number of points awarded by the Judges in three qualifying trials will be added together and the dog with the highest total will be the winner. If there is still a tie then multiple awards will be presented.
RALLY OBEDIENCE
TOP RALLY DOG
The Top Rally Dog award will go to the dog that accumulates the highest number of points in the Master, Excellent and Advanced classes during the qualifying period. Only the best 7 results from each class for each dog will be counted.
Points will be awarded on the basis of qualifications and placings gained as detailed below.

The regional Australian FCI title is the Asia, Africa & Oceania Champion, in the short form FCI A20 Champion (FCI A20 Ch.), which came into effect 17th June 2019.
Due to the structure of the ANKC and the way individual States Bodies manage and run their own affairs, dispensation is given to Australian exhibitors to qualify for FCI A20 Section titles, in that A20 CAC’s won in different countries be replaced with individual States counting as different countries.
Requirements to attain Asia, Africa & Oceania Champion Titles in Australia:
To obtain the title of Asia, Africa & Oceania Champion: A dog/ bitch who is already an Australian Champion or Champion of an FCI member country, must win EIGHT A20CS CAC’s dog/ bitch at any FCI

At least THREE of the twelve A20CS CAC must be won in different States of Australia.
Awarding of A20CS CAC’s
The A20CS CAC’s are awarded to the Best Dog & Best Bitch OR Dog CAC & Bitch CAC at a Championship Show. The Show does not have to be a CACIB/International Show and the awarding of the A20CS CAC’s follow the ANKC Rules with the regards to the awarding of the Best Dog & Best Bitch OR Dog CAC & Bitch CAC.

Tailored Nutrition for Champions
Powered by the ROYAL CANIN® EXPERT range
The ROYAL CANIN® EXPERT range is scientifically formulated to support dogs where exceptional health, high performance, and a flawless coat condition is a priority. Whether you’re raising future champions or conditioning dogs for the ring, ROYAL CANIN® EXPERT delivers targeted nutrition to support their unique needs at every size.
It has been many months since I first fed my Labradors Royal Canin Maxi Adult Expert. I have found it to be nothing short of amazing for my dogs. Not only did my dogs love it, never leaving anything in their bowls but I observed how well this food improved their coats, helped each hold condition without an increased amount, it is easily digested and an excellent source of nutrtion for them.
Highly recommend feeding Maxi Adult Expert, great product Royal Canin.
