We are almost halfway through 2026 and so far are tracking along reasonably well with no unexpected financial impairments. A good return has been identified with the installation of the Solar batteries and the upgrade of the existing solar panels resulting in an approximate 75% saving to our electricity bills this time last year. Of great concern to many members is the introduction of the Champion Class into the conformation discipline. Although the survey was not well presented by Dogs Australia or represented by the membership, it has produced a lot of discussion on social media and with me personally on what members perceived went wrong with the survey and where we should be going into the future. One of the best suggestions and very much worth taking on is “to go forward we must look at the past”. That does not mean we stay in the past but look at what has been done, what has worked and what hasn’t and why are numbers decreasing. This should not be confined to just Conformation but also other performance disciplines where they are either declining or remaining stagnant. Also let’s look at those disciplines that are gaining strength as to what is working for them and can it be implemented in other activities.
Council has also been reviewing a number of activities to consider where savings can be made. There are concerns identified about the continuation of the DOTY POTY NOTY program with declining entry numbers and the continued deficit it has been operating with over the past 5 years which has accounted for over $12,000 of member funds. This is not sustainable for a single event where other disciplines are hosting their own state championships from their own budgets. Where do we go from here? Council has agreed the POTY DOTY NOTY event should continue for 2026, however it will need to be seriously investigated to ascertain viability to continue into 2027. I am sure the committee would welcome suggestions on how to reinvigorate the event to make it profitable.
The Winter International will be conducted at the end of May with four Championship shows and a number of Specialty shows. The format will be changing somewhat from 2027 with the introduction of various performance disciplines being involved. It is still in the planning as to which disciplines but it will be designed for the Winter International to showcase as many Dogs SA activities as it can. I am extremely pleased to announce that BlackHawk has signed a contract to further sponsor the Winter International for a further 3 years from 2027. When you see Louise at this year’s event please go and thank her for the continued support of BlackHawk for this event. Other major events on the calendar include the Agility State Championships over the June long weekend and Scent Work State Championships at the end of June. Please come along to these events and as it is worth coming to see what the dogs are bred for.
With the Sprint Dog track at David Roche Park coming along I will be asking for volunteers to help with the lacing of the wire to the rails. Not hard work but requires a lot of bending. Come and see me if you can help.

Following a survey last year relating to the age of stud dogs’ requirements for registration of Bullmastiff puppies on the Main or limited register, it was unanimously resolved at the February 2026 Special Board meeting that the survey results be endorsed. As a result of the decision, Regulations Part 6 – The Register & Registration Clause 8.14 will be amended as follows:
8.14.4 A Bullmastiff male may NOT be used at stud before the age of 12 months is reached. Puppies born where the stud dog was not 12 months of age at the date of mating shall be registered on the Limited Register only and flagged “NOT TO BE UPGRADED”
8.14.5 Semen can be collected over 9 months of age but cannot be used until the dog is over 12 months of age and had the relevant health testing requirements for that breed. Puppies born where the stud dog was not 12 months of age at the date of mating shall be registered on the Limited Register only and flagged “NOT TO BE UPGRADED”

Best of Breed / Challenge Certificates

Due to certificates now being available from either Easydogs or Show Manager, it is no longer a requirement for Conformation Clubs to print certificates for exhibitors that do not require a hard copy.
Application for Conformation Titles can now be applied for with the point list from either of the online providers and there is no requirement for the hard copy certificate when lodged in this manner.
As from 1st June 2026, Conformation Certificates may only be available upon request at the event, on the day.
This enables exhibitors to continue applying for titles in the same manner they are familiar with if this is the preferred option.
If an exhibitor does not pick up their certificate on the day, the Club is not responsible to issue another one but can cooperate if they choose.

Class Eligibility: It is the competitor’s responsibility to enter the classes they are eligible to enter. Refer to 6.1 Titling Classes and 6.2 Progression through the Titling Classes of the ANKC Scent Work Rules (specifically 6.2.2 and 6.2.3) re eligibility requirements for entering trials.
Notes and other rules: The judge’s decision is final: Rule 10.1.3 - there shall be no training utilizing the Scent Work target odours on the grounds of a Dogs Australia Scent Work Trial, other than in the designated warm up area. Breach of this rule shall result in disqualification: Rule 13.11 - there is to be no discussion of the searches until all competitors have finished the class. (thumbs up, thumbs down are allowed).
