Welcome to Winter. This year’s Autumn weather has been very mild with little to no rainfall. As such we have had to do a lot more watering of the grounds than expected so the grounds will remain in acceptable condition. The areas that were hydroseeded behind rings 3, 4 and 5 have come on with a great improvement. Thank you to the members for your patience. Working Dogs will be back in Ring 5 from Winter International and Ring 7 will remain the spare ring.
The tender negotiations for the grounds upkeep have been decided and the new contractor, Michael Cabal will be commencing from the Winter International. Michael is well known to the Executive Officer and I as he was responsible for assisting with getting the irrigation and grounds back up to the condition they are now. I would like to thank Urban Landscaping for their previous works although not successful in keeping the contract.
I continue to see posts on Face Book by members asking for clarifications on the regulations. Please do not ask for clarification on the regulations on Face Book or any other social media platform as too often the responses are not correct and could get a member in hot water. If you have an issue, email the office, or look up the Regulations.
Royal Show entries are out, and Lynne Stapleton is working with the Advisory Committees to hold demonstrations in the dog area and the main arena. This will be a great promotion for Dogs SA, and I hope as many as possible can get behind Lynne and assist her to make it a great success. Hopefully the demonstrations will be popular and successful which could lead to bigger things in the future. A reminder when you may be putting Benching Requests in for the Royal Show, please ensure that you speak with who you are asking to be benched with, and make sure they want to bench with you.
It appears that our 2 fastest growing disciplines at the moment are Sprint Dog and Scent Work. The numbers in these events are growing with numbers at times reaching their cap for events. I attended a Sprint Dog Trial run by Para Districts Obedience Club last month and it was great to see the competitors being so supportive of each other as well as being prepared to step up and give each other a hand. The highlight was watching the embarrassment on the competitors face when the dog decided to do its own thing, having a good time and generally everyone having a laugh including the handler.
I intend hosting a Presidents and Secretaries meeting in July to have an open discussion on things effecting our hobby so we can look for improvements going into 2026. Get your thinking caps on. If you are a member of an affiliate club, perhaps request a meeting with them so they can present your ideas.

Caring for children and young people brings additional responsibilities for employees and volunteers of our organisation. All employees and volunteers of our organisation are responsible for promoting and protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people by:
• always sticking to the Dogs SA child safe policy and taking all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and protection of children and young people
• treating everyone (this includes staff, volunteers, students, children, young people and parents) including those of different race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes and religious beliefs with respect and honesty and ensure equity is upheld
• being a positive role model to children and young people in all conduct with them
• setting clear boundaries about appropriate behaviour between yourself and the children and young people in Dogs SA – boundaries help everyone to understand their roles
• listening and responding appropriately to the views and concerns of children and young people
• being always mindful about bullying behaviours and responding promptly and appropriately
• ensuring another adult is always present or in sight when conducting one to one coaching, instruction, or other activity
• being alert to children and young people who have been harmed, or may be at risk of harm and reporting this quickly to the Child Abuse Report Line (13 14 78)

Employees and volunteers must not:

Any breaches of this Code of Conduct will be investigated promptly by the Executive Officer and further investigation may be undertaken by the Investigations Committee which could lead to Disciplinary action. Complainants will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.

• Any person is permitted to take photographs on the grounds providing they are not selling such photographs
• Any person who intends to take photographs on the grounds for renumeration must supply proof of Public Liability Insurance to the Dogs SA Office
• Any person who intends to have a site on the grounds for either displaying and or the taking of photographs for sale, must pay the appropriate site fee
• Clubs who engage a photographer to take photographs on their behalf, have the right to make the photographer exclusive for their event. No other commercial photographers are then permitted to operate during that Club event/s.

History
This dog of ancient Italian origin, used for bird hunting, has modelled itself and developed over the ages; from the hunting of yesteryear by means of nets, he has adapted himself to the present hunting and shooting. Frescoes from the 14th century are proof of the indisputable timelessness of the Italian Pointer over the centuries, whether either regarding his morphology (appearance) or his aptitudes at hunting as a pointing dog.
Appearance
Of strong and harmonious construction with powerful appearance. This breed has lean limbs, well developed muscles, well defined lines with a markedly sculpted head and a very obvious lower orbital chiselling, elements which all contribute to give distinction to this breed. Important proportions: Length of the body is the same or a little more then the height at the withers. Length of head is equal to 4/10 of the height at the withers; it’s width, measured at the level of the zygomatic arches, is less than half its length. Skull and muzzle are of equal length.
Temperament & Suitability
Braccos are very much a people-loving dog and thrive on human companionship, having a strong need to be close
to their people. They are a particularly good family dog, and many have a strong love of children.
They get along well with other dogs and pets, if trained to do so - it is, after all, a hunting breed and must be taught what to chase and what not to.
They are very willing to please, as long as they have decided that your idea is better than theirs. Obedience training is a must for a Bracco, and the more that is asked of them, the better they do. Harsh reprimands do not work with this breed unless the reprimand is a fair one, to remind them who is actually in charge. Although not an aggressive breed, many Braccos will alert if there is a reason, and some will bark or growl if there’s a good reason.
The breed loves to hunt, and they excel at it: in fact, a nonhunting Bracco is not a happy Bracco, and will act out in various other ways.
They are an active breed, but require more mental exercise than physical exercise to keep them happy. A Bracco owner can teach games like hide-and-seek (an object or person) which fits into the breed’s original and current usage, and keeps them mentally active.
