Welcome to December 2025! Many will be pleased to hear that this is the final President’s Report for the year — but yes, I will be back in 2026!
This year has been a particularly busy one for Dogs SA, with a couple of staff changes and the challenge of managing reduced revenue from areas such as litter registrations and transfers. Work on the Sprint Dog track is progressing steadily. The clay base has been removed and will soon be replaced with loam and turf. The old herding ring has been cleared to make space, while the duck ring remains in place as it continues to be used.
Our groundsman, Michael, has done a wonderful job maintaining the main exhibition area, and many have commented that it has never looked better.
On Saturday, 13 December from 9:00am, we’ll be holding a working bee to tidy up the grounds — including cleaning along the fence line, weeding, replanting garden beds, and organising the sheds. Each affiliate and member with items stored in the sheds is asked to attend and dispose of anything no longer required. There’s also a stash of books in one shed that needs sorting to decide what’s worth keeping.
Please mark the date and come lend a hand! We’ll need gardening tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, and whipper snippers. Dogs SA will provide a free sausage sizzle, along with cold drinks and water for everyone in attendance.
The Dogs Australia Annual General Meeting and Board Meeting were held in October, attended by both Vice President Peter Thompson and I. 2025 marks the first year Dogs SA has been entitled to two delegates, as the Dogs Australia Constitution allows this for member bodies representing 10% or more of the total national membership. Let’s hope our numbers remain strong so we can maintain this level of representation.
A summary of the key decisions made at the Board Meeting has been shared with members via Facebook, the website, and in the December journal. There are several rule changes across various disciplines, so I encourage all members to review the rules relevant to their activities — it’s your responsibility to stay informed.
I would like to sincerely thank all Dogs SA staff and volunteers for their outstanding contributions this year. Our staff continue to be among the most friendly, capable, and professional in the country — always ready to assist members with courtesy and respect. My thanks also go to the committees of our many affiliated clubs and our own internal committees. Without the dedication of these volunteers, there would be no “dog world” — so thank you all.
On behalf of the Dogs SA Council, staff, and myself, I wish every member — and their dogs — a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please stay safe over the festive season, and I look forward to seeing everyone back in 2026, enjoying whichever activities you and your dogs love most.

At the recent Annual General Meeting of the Australian National Kennel Council Limited held in Melbourne:
1. Election of ANKC Ltd Executive
• Ms Pam Campbell was elected as Vice President for a one-year term from 18 October 2025;
• Mr David Sales was re-elected unopposed as Treasurer for a one-year term from 18 October 2025;
• Mr Brian Parker was re-elected as a member of the Executive Committee for a one-year term from 18 October 2025.
At the October 2024 Dogs Australia Board meeting, Directors resolved/considered the following:
2. * Regulations Part 2 – Judges, Clause 3.7
It was resolved that Regulations Part 2 – Judges, Clause 3.7 be amended as follows: Currently reads:
3.7 Only All Breeds Judges shall judge General Specials at All Breed Championship Shows. (Amended 10/13 – 5.6.4)
Amend to read:
3.7 All Breeds Judges or Judges with a minimum of 6 Groups at Championship Level may judge General Specials at All Breeds Championship Shows. Those Judges that are not all Breeds Judges must also be currently listed as a Trainee Judge within their State
This amendment is effective from 1 January 2026.
3. * Regulations Part 3 – Judges Training & Examination Program, Clause 7.2
It was resolved that Regulations Part 3 – Judges Training & Examination Program, Clause 7.2 be amended as follows: Currently reads:
7.2 Unless otherwise determined, at the discretion of the Member Body, a practical examination for a single breed license shall consist of one (1) class of a minimum of five (5) dogs over the age of six (6) months, and one (1) class of a minimum of five (5) bitches over the age of six (6) months, and the Trainee Judge will be required to place the classes and select a Best of Breed and a Runner Up to Best of Breed. The Trainee must not be examined on dogs they own or co-own.
Amend to read:

Amend Clause 9.8 to read:
9.8 All Theory Examinations, once passed, are valid for a period of five (5) years. If a candidate has not attempted to advance to Championship Show level within this time, the examination must be re-sat to ensure continued competency.
This amendment is effective from the start of the commencement of each Member Bodies Judges Training Scheme in 2027.
5. * Regulations Part 3E(a) – Regulations for the Conduct of Tracking Trial Judges Training Scheme
It was resolved that Regulations Part 3E(a) – Regulations for the Conduct of Tracking Trial Judges Training Scheme, Clause 8 – Practical Assessment be amended as follows: Currently the rule reads:

Designated ramp breeds may be examined on the ground (table if applicable) or on a ramp during breed judging at the sole discretion of the judge and not the exhibitor. The entire entry in that breed is to be examined on the ground (table if applicable) or on a ramp. The ramp will be available at the discretion of the judge for all ramp optional breeds through all levels of competition including group and Best in Show judging. Be amended to read:

It was resolved that Regulations Part 5 – Conformation Shows be amended with the addition of new Clause 9.10 for the selection of the Australian representative at the FCI World Challenge for Top Dogs. The new regulations to read as follows:
9.10 Rules for the Selection of the FCI World Challenge Top Dog (Added 10/25, 5.18 – Effective 01/01/26)
9.10.1 Listed below are the rules for the selection of the dog to represent Australia at the FCI World Challenge Top Dog.
9.10.1.1 All dogs competing in a FCI CACIB event in Australia will automatically be entered in the point score.
9.10.1.2 Only FCI CACIB events shall be included in the point score.
9.10.1.3 The point score will run from any FCI CACIB show commencing on or after 01 January and will finish with any show commencing on 31 December of that year.
9.10.1.4 Points will be awarded as follows and shall not be accumulated at any 1 show:
a. Runner Up Best in Group 1
b. Best in Group 2
c. Runner up Best in Show 3
d. Best in Show 4
9.10.1.5 The dog with the highest points at the end of the period will be declared the Top Dog and will be invited to represent Australia at the FCI World Challenge for Top Dogs the following year.
9.10.1.6 Should there be a tie for the Top Dog then the winner will be decided on a count back as follows:
a. The number of Best in Show, then;
b. The number of Runner up in Show, then;
c. The number of Best in Group, finally; and
d. The number of Runner Best in Group.
9.10.1.7 Should the successful dog not elect to represent Australia then the invitation will be bestowed on the next dog on the list down to placing number 5. Should none of the placegetters down to 5 accept the invitation then Australia would not have a representative.
9.10.1.8 All the expenses related to the dog and owner’s travel and accommodation, are under the responsibility of the relevant owner(s)
Effective from 1 January 2026.
8. * Regulations Part 5 – Conformation Show, Clause 9A.2.1
It was resolved that Regulations Part 5 – Conformation Show, Clause 9A.2.1 be amended as follows: Currently reads:
9A.2.1 A maximum of four A2O shows may be held by each Member (each State or Territory) in a calendar year.
Amend to read:
9A.2.1 A maximum of six A2O shows may be held by each Member (each State or Territory) in a calendar year.
This amendment is effective from 1 January 2026.
9. * Dogs Australia Judges Contract
It was resolved that effective immediately page 4 (Judging Declaration for Additional Breeds) of the current Dogs Australia Judges Contract be removed.
10. * Dogs Australia Judges Contract
It was resolved that effective immediately the Dogs Australia Judges Contract be clearly marked “Dogs Australia Judges Contract (Australia and New Zealand Judges)”.
11. * Dogs Australia Ramp Listing
It was resolved that the following amendments be made to the Ramp listing:
• Skye Terrier be given the option of Ramp or Table (effective 1 January 2026)
• Remove Harriers from the Ramp listing (effective immediately)

* Procedure to apply for Dogs Australia recognition of a breed for Herding
It was resolved that the following sentence in paragraph 3 of the Procedure to Apply for Dogs Australia Recognition of a Breed for Herding be removed: “Final acceptance will be by the Dogs Australia Governing Council’
This amendment is effective from 1 January 2026.
13. * Spanish Water Dog – Recognition as a breed for Herding
It was resolved that the Spanish Water Dog be permitted to participate in Herding Trials.
Effective from 1 January 2026.
14. Registration of Kennel Names with FCI
It was resolved that all members be advised they must register their kennel name with the FCI in accordance with our agreement with the FCI.

The State Obedience and Rally Championship trial in September was the perfect setting for Brian Parker to present Life Membership of Dogs SA to Keith Millington.
This award recognises Keith’s exceptional contributions to Dogs SA since the 1970’s: and whilst Keith will mainly be remembered for his contributions to Obedience and his many years on the Obedience Advisory Committee he was also involved with the Agility, Rally and Retrieving disciplines.
Keith’s membership of the Investigation Committee and his impact on trial management, judges’ training and assessment will leave a lasting legacy.

Notice to Members – Temporary Carpark Arrangements
Dogs SA advises Members that for the months of October, November and December, the bitumen carparks will be leased on weekdays (Monday to Friday) to a local company whilst renovations to their own carpark are undertaken.
Parking by the company will occur from early morning until 3.45pm each weekday. To ensure continued access for Members:
The front row of carparks directly opposite the office will remain reserved exclusively for Members attending the office.
Two carparks at the Off Lead area will be allocated for the use of Members whilst utilising that facility.
Extensive parking continues to be available elsewhere on the grounds, and these arrangements will not impact parking around the Showrings or Marsula Brine for Members wishing to use those areas during the week.
Dogs SA appreciates the cooperation and understanding of Members during this temporary arrangement.
Working Bee at David Roche Park
Dear Members and Affiliates,
Council has approved a Working Bee to be held at David Roche Park on Saturday 13th December 2025 at 9.00am
As the saying goes, many hands make light work, and we would greatly appreciate the assistance of members in helping to clean up the grounds and sheds.
As part of the clean-up, we will be clearing out the sheds. We ask that Affiliates with equipment stored in the sheds ensure they have a representative present so the areas can be swept out and any unneeded items removed.
Planned works include:
• Weeding and tidying the gardens
• Cleaning along fence lines and disposing of rubbish into a hired skip
• Cleaning out the sheds
• General maintenance and tidy-up around the grounds
If possible, please bring along items such as wheelbarrows, shovels, gloves, or other useful tools.
Dogs SA will be providing a sausage sizzle and cold drinks (water and soft drinks) for all volunteers.
The Working Bee is expected to take approximately three hours, depending on the number of volunteers. Remember, these are your grounds — let’s all work together to make them look great again for the start of 2026!

A Journey of Dedication: Rose Ince’s Story
For many in the dog training and agility community, the name Rose Ince is synonymous with passion, patience, and unwavering dedication. Her journey through the world of dog sports has inspired countless handlers and their canine companions, leaving a lasting mark on every club she’s touched. Rose began her instructing career many years ago at the South Australian Obedience Dog Club (S.A.O.D.C.), where her calm manner and deep understanding of dogs quickly set her apart. It wasn’t long before her enthusiasm for agility took centre stage, and six years ago, she brought that expertise to Para Districts Obedience Dog Club, where she continues to share her skills and love for the sport.
Her teaching style reflects her belief that agility is not just about speed or precision—it’s about the partnership between dog and handler. Under her guidance, many teams have blossomed, learning to trust one another and find joy in every jump, tunnel, and weave.
Beyond instructing, Rose has also made an incredible contribution as a judge, a role she began back in 2008. Over the course of 17 remarkable years, she has judged with fairness, insight, and integrity, always encouraging competitors with her kind words and infectious smile. Her keen eye and deep respect for the sport have made her a highly regarded figure in the agility community.
Seventeen years is a long time—a span that represents not only experience but also commitment, passion, and love for both people and dogs. Rose’s journey is a shining example of what it means to give back to the sport you love, year after year.
From her first judging appointment to her latest class at Para Districts, Rose Ince has helped shape the future of dog agility in South Australia. Her legacy will continue to inspire trainers, handlers, and dogs alike for many years to come.
