President’s Message

“We are always grateful when clubs hold a National event and use our beautiful Durack Showgrounds.

Recently, we have seen some special events. On Friday 19 May 2023 through to Sunday 21 May 2023 the Bullmastiff National was held at Durack. The club had an impressive entry of 97 dogs!!!! Shane Yates live-streamed the event so the judging could be enjoyed by a worldwide audience. Thank you to Shane for the innovation in technology!!!! A very informative lecture was given by the President of the Bullmastiff National Breed Council, specialist and All Breeds Judge, Andrew Burt.

On the weekend of 26-28 May 2023, the Dachshund Club of Qld hosted the Dachshund National. A total number of 342 entries saw exhibitors from all over Australia come to exhibit their beautiful dogs.

The opening ceremony commenced with Judge Mrs Dawn Norton (UK) arriving in style in a carriage drawn by 2 majestic Clydesdale horses. Lots of activities kept the exhibitors and guests entertained with informative lectures and social activities.

Shane Yates went over and above yet again with his wonderful live-streaming of this event for the world to enjoy!

Congratulations to President of the Dachshund Club of Qld, Mark Yardley and all involved for their hard work and dedication in coordinating this event.

Our next exciting National event is scheduled on 30 June and 1 and 2 July 2023. We have dogs sports galore and will be hosting Agility,

Jumpers, Games, Track and Search, Scent Work, Dances with Dogs, Tricks, Obedience and Rally. These events will include State and National Trials. Thank you to all involved in preparing these events and to Tabitha Young and her team for their coordination and fund raising efforts. I’m sure these will be fantastic events!!!! It’s also a great opportunity for all dog enthusiasts to see the various dog sports in action. Please take the opportunity to come along and enjoy the day.

We are now moving into our season of agricultural shows.

One of the most important aspects our dog world has is taking the opportunity to promote pedigree dogs to the public.

On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May 2023, the Brookfield Show Society held its annual show. The dog section was well supported with a great number of entries. The public were encouraged to interact with the exhibitors and Chief Steward Ulla Greenwood commentated during the judging. Thank you to our members for making their beautiful dogs available to the public. So many happy faces and well cuddled dogs!!

Breeder Alert –

Puppy Scam Websites

Dogs Queensland has become increasingly aware of Puppy Scam Websites using legitimate Dogs Queensland Registration and Queensland Breeder Identification (BIN) Numbers to sell puppies. Dogs Queensland Registration Numbers are obtained from legitimate websites such as Dogs Queensland or DogzOnline, where they are displayed as required by the Queensland Government.

Please see the Queensland Dog Breeder Fact Sheets for regulations and guidelines for Queensland Dog Breeders.

An example of a typical scam is:

• A Dogs Queensland Membership number is lifted from current advertising on the internet.

• The scammer researches and obtains personal details of the breeder including name, suburb, prefix.

• A domain name similar to the Kennel prefix is registered on an offshore registry.

• Once the breeder has ceased advertising the litter of puppies a new website is published.

• No physical address or phone numbers are advertised on the website.

• The seller avoids permitting you to physically see the cyber puppy and only sends non genuine pictures.

• The seller insists on only accepting payment by a crypto currency or a funds transfer.

As a breeder what can you do to avoid being an unknowing victim of a Puppy Scam:

• Regularly Google search the internet for websites using a similar Domain Name as your Prefix.

• Put a warning notification in your online advertising to alert buyers to check any website they are looking at is legitimate.

• Encourage puppy buyers to verify breeder information with Dogs Queensland and make direct inperson contact with you.

• Ensure puppy buyers check communications are made with verified contact details.

• Encourage puppy buyers to meet the puppy and breeder before handing over payments.

As a buyer what can you do to avoid being a victim of a Puppy Scam:

• Verify breeder information with Dogs Queensland.

• Ensure communications are made to verified contact details.

• Meet the puppy and breeder before handing over payments.

• If paying online, use a credit card or PayPal where you have a degree of buyer protection.

• Check website is an established site with a website security certificate.

• Avoid websites without physical address or phone numbers.

• A sk for proof, including ANKC registration papers and veterinary health records for any puppy. Importantly you should report any suspect sites or advertising to the ACCC ScamWatch website. Please let us know about any suspect websites too by contacting Dogs Queensland on 3252 2661 or by email at info@dogsqueensland.org.au.

COLLIESMOOTH AND ROUGH

Collies should be confident, attentive, loyal and intelligent; loving to spend time with their family as much as they can. They should be of a friendly disposition, and not be nervous nor aggressive.

Breed Feature 8 DOG WORLD June 2023

The Collie should instantly appeal as a dog of great beauty, standing with impassive dignity, with no part out of proportion to the whole. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to be owned by a Collie will know how much this breed will capture your heart.

Rough and Smooth Collies have a long history as a herding breed in Scotland. The early few hundred years as a landrace breed have many stories and suspicions as to how long they have been around and what they looked like. There is even speculation of where the name came from, with the most common theory being that it had to do with the black or “coally” faced sheep that they were herding.

There were 2-3 pairs of rough “Colley” dogs imported in 1825 as the first herding dogs officially brought into Australia. These dogs were part of the foundation for Kelpies, and later the Cattle Dog, and Stumpy-tailed Cattle Dog. The modern history of the breed begins from around the 1860s, at this point the breed was mostly tricolour or black and white – the second of which no longer exists in the breed. What is now the most common colour, sable (aka Lassie’s colour), first appeared with Old Cockle who was born in 1868. The last recognised colour is blue merle, which appeared in the 1870s.

By the 1880s, with some assistance due to the popularity by Queen Victoria, Collies (both Rough and Smooth), had made the move from being working dogs to also being shown. The first breed standard was drawn up in 1881, and in 1895 the stud book was closed.

In 1951, the Scotch Collie Society of Queensland was formed. The club held their first show in 1952. In 1995, the name was changed, and the Rough and Smooth Collie Club of Queensland became an incorporated body. The club is affiliated with Dogs Queensland and holds shows and sometimes sporting events. The club’s primary goal is the promotion of the Collie which includes providing information

and support to new and prospective owners, as well as advice to those interested in Obedience training, dog sports or exhibiting their Collie. The Collie Club has a Rescue Officer who coordinates with other members of the club to collect, care for and wherever possible rehome any Collie regardless of age, condition or location. The club welcomes any new members who share the love for Collies.

The three recognised colours can be described as follows:

• The sable can be in any shade, from a light golden colour through to a dark mahogany coat that almost looks like tricolour.

• Tricolour is black with tan markings on the cheeks, legs and chest.

• Blue merle is a tricolour with a modifier gene that fades some parts of the black to a silvery blue colour, leaving splotches of dark and light colouring, with the tricolour tan markings still present.

All three colours have the Irish spotting markings to some degree, being white on the chest, feet, tail tip and/or neck.

There are two additional possible colours that are not recognised in this country, but are possible to produce: sable merle, where the merle gene is present on a sable, lightening some of the dark overlay of the sable coat, and white. White Collies were traditionally avoided as they could be caused by two merle genes being present and having two merle genes often presents with health issues. However, these days

9 DOG WORLD June 2023

we know that there is a piebald gene that does not have any health issues associated with it. This gene is recessive and carried by quite a few Collies, and when a pup has two copies of the gene, it can end up with large white splotches or be mostly white on the body with a coloured head. These colours are recognised in some other countries and are present in Australia though not recognised.

Collies come in two types: the Collie (Rough) which has a longer, harsh and dense double coat, and the Collie (Smooth) which has a short, flat double coat with a harsh texture. In many countries, the two varieties are considered the one breed, and the two varieties may be interbred, with the pups registered according to the coat type they are born with. In both cases, the coat should protect from the wet and other weather conditions they would encounter working outdoors, so must always fit the outline of the body. The Collie Rough will also have a mane and frill that is very abundant.

The Collie Rough is the more popular coat in Australia, with an average of 350 puppies registered a year, whereas the smooth coat is

much less popular in this country, where we only average 35 pups per year for the smooths.

The two coat varieties are similar in many ways, and other than coat length their ear size is the most obvious difference. There is anecdotal evidence that Smooths are more energetic than their Rough littermates, and the standard reflects this, with the Collie Smooth standard calling for intelligence and alertness, and the Collie Rough standard calling for impassive dignity.

Collies should be confident, attentive, loyal and intelligent; loving to spend time with their family as much as they can. They should be of a friendly disposition, and not be nervous nor aggressive. Having a history of being bred to herd, they both are incredibly loyal, have a streak of independent thinking and sense of humour, leading to antics which keep their owners entertained. Collies are intelligent, easy to train, with a great will to please, but they get bored easily with unnecessary repetition.

Collies are a medium sized dog, with the standard showing that dogs should be between 56 to 61cm at the shoulder, and bitches being

10 DOG WORLD June 2023

between 51 and 56cm at the shoulder. Both Collies Rough and Smooth should be slightly longer than they are tall, with a 9:10 ratio being the preferred shape.

Some people may be discouraged from owning a Collie Rough, when they see the coat and immediately think that it is a lot of work to care for. It is, however, a lot easier to maintain their beautiful coat than what is expected. A thorough weekly groom, line/layer brushing with a pin or bristle brush, paying attention to behind the ears, is easy to achieve. They enjoy a bath and a blow dry occasionally and then it’s simply a matter of trimming the hair between and around their feet and hocks and ensuring that their nails are kept short.

Collies are a hardy breed – generally they do not suffer from many health issues. They have very low rates of hip dysplasia, with average hip scores of 7 for Roughs and 4 for Smooths. Other issues that have plagued the breed are slowly being bred away from, with Collie Eye Anomaly rarely being more than mild in those that are affected, and the breed is heading towards more

genetically clear dogs, with more born every year. It is still good practice to only buy a Collie from breeders who eye test all puppies before they get sent to their new home, so that there are no surprises.

The only other high occurrence issue in the breed is the MDR1 mutation (sometimes referred to as an ivermectin sensitivity), which is common in many herding breeds, but is in fact a sensitivity to several medications. However, in modern times there are many medications that may be used in place of those medications that can cause problems.

Collies are great at matching their energy level to their household. Families that just want a pet who goes for walks with them and play some games or do some tricks at home find their Collie’s energy level will match theirs, and those who want their Collies to do sports and go for long hikes will find their Collies happy to take part. The one constant is that they do generally need a job of some description, whether that is tricks, sports, showing or going for enjoyable walks.

11 DOG WORLD June 2023

Collies have a good history as service dogs. In America they are considered one of the “fab four” service breeds, and are used for various disabilities and ailments as service animals. They also have a good reputation as therapy dogs – doing school, hospital and aged care visits.

The will to work and sense of humour that Collies have has led to a long history of Collies excelling at various dog sports in Australia, with many more titles and higher percentages, than you would expect for a breed with such low registration numbers.

Collies have been competing and excelling in Obedience in this country since the 1950s where multiple Collies obtained titles. The trend in Obedience continues to this day with the current competition Collies winning at trials in every level of Obedience.

Collies also have a great history as Tracking Dogs in Australia, with 10 Track and Search champions (some of which are also grand champions) and 28 Tracking champions, 9 of those are even Dual Champions. Other sports that Collies have succeeded at are Agility/Jumping, Tricks, Dances With Dogs (DWD), Scent Work, Lure Coursing, Rally, Backpacking, and Endurance, proving they have brains and beauty.

So if you’d like a dog that is incredibly loyal, has a sense of humour, loves to do things with you, follows you from room to room, and is versatile with their talents, a Collie Rough or Smooth may be for you!

Far North Queensland’s “Tableland Dog Obedience Club”

– Ally’tiani Ki

Far North Queensland’s “Tableland Dog Obedience Club” is leading the way for the next generation of Dog Handlers.

Situated in the Atherton Tablelands of the Far North, the Tableland Dog Obedience Club is busier than ever with each Wednesday evening seeing the Club grounds packed with eager dogs and handlers, both young and old. Puppy classes through to Class 4 and 5 Obedience are full, as are the Agility, Rally O, Scent Trial, and now Tricks classes are also being run on a separate night.

The last trial held in Cairns in early April this year, saw the Tableland Dog Obedience Club field 5 Juniors with their competing dogs. Here is an insight into the Juniors’ worlds:

Mia: I am 16 years old, with Bronte, my 4 year old Border Collie. I got into the club through my mum when I was 12, when I got my own dog. Dog training has given me confidence and taught me persistence as things don’t always go the way you want them to. I love Agility and Dances With Dogs, and one day I’d love to go on Australia’s Got Talent for Dances With Dogs.

Laura: I am 13 years old, and have a Springer Spaniel called Finn, who is also a qualified Therapy Dog. He loves Obedience and Rally but is retired now and enjoys going to the lake every week for a swim. I also have a new Kelpie X Border Collie puppy called Trigger. Trigger keeps me very busy and I love how quickly she learns new things and that she’s enthusiastic about everything! In a year or two we hope to be ready to compete in Rally, Tricks and Agility.

Zanthe: I am 11 years old and have a 5 year old Border Collie called Nova (Kambalano Gemma). I quit doing gymnastics 4 times a week so decided to come along to dog club with Mum. Training has helped Nova and I to form a close relationship and now we are best friends. Nova is quite an anxious dog but I love seeing her light up and get really excited when we are training. I also love hanging out with my dog club friends. We compete regularly in Agility and are starting to trial in Tricks and Rally but we also love making fun dances together. My goals are to teach Nova the weave poles and continue competing together.

Scarlett: I am 12 years old and have a 2 year old Blue Heeler called Bullet. I’ve wanted to do dog training with my own dog for a long time so when I got Bullet I started training at the Atherton Dog Club. After Bullet and I passed Class 4 Obedience, we were offered Agility to try. We competed in our first trial a few months ago and loved it. Dog training has let me get to know Bullet better and understand him more. He’s a bit of a clown and sometimes does the wrong thing, but I know he loves it and we have lots of fun together. When driving to dog training, as we get closer, Bullet starts barking and whining and wagging his tail madly ! My goals are to become an excellent Agility dog handler and some day become a trainer myself. I’d also love to take Bullet and my other dog Misty to trials around Australia.

Ember: I am 15 years old, and have a 3 year old Border Collie named Brumby. We started at Dog Training when I was 12 and Brumby was just 12 weeks. I wanted to have a well-trained dog and do lots of new things with her, as she is always by my side and wants to please me all the time. Brumby passed Class 4 and we moved onto Agility and she is just a natural. She has since competed in quite a few trials and always has such fun. She loves it all and picks everything up so quickly and is very focussed. I also have a 9 month old Border Collie called Sage, who has just started Agility –she also is proving to pick it up really quickly and loves it.

At the Tablelands Club, we see the Juniors as the future of the sport, as well as helping give them confidence with training strategies, and the chance to build a relationship of respect and patience with their dogs. These are lasting memories and real-life lessons. Hence, we encourage youngsters and welcome them wholeheartedly. Apart from the Juniors above, who are already competing with their dogs, we have another 4 Juniors coming up through the Obedience Training classes, including one 7 year old (Athena) who is doing fantastic things with her dog, and even did a little Dances With Dogs demonstration with Rubble at our Christmas Break Up party last year.

Young people bring life and fun into the Club, and everyone loves supporting them and watching their journeys with their dogs.

The key to groominggettingright … is knowing your breed and its coat-type

Reproduced courtesy Dogs Australia

The best place to start learning about the breed is the Standard, writes Deborah Ryan.

We all have our favourite breeds and, once we fall for a breed, we usually become obsessed by finding out as much as we can about it.

The first port of call is usually a successful breeder or handler of the breed who can give advice on its grooming needs. You can buy books or search the internet to find out about the breed’s grooming needs, or watch your breed around the show rings.

Most of my skills in grooming my breeds have been learned in a breeder’s kitchen with a cup of tea. I have spent many hours watching, followed by many more hours practising my skills and learning from my mistakes. You can never learn too much about a breed you are grooming.

KNOW YOUR BREED

Grooming needs for pet and show dogs can be quite different; however, the one thing that does not change is that you need to know the breed’s structure, topcoat, undercoat, coat texture and movement.

Understanding what your dog is bred for and what it is supposed to look like is the key to any good groom, so the Breed Standard is a good place to start building this knowledge.

The Breed Standard is a step-by-step guide to

what each part of the body needs to look like and what type of coat the dog should have. By keeping this guide in mind when you start to groom an individual dog, you can create a look as close to the ideal as possible.

It is common knowledge that breeds like Poodles, Maltese, Wirehaired Fox Terriers and many others are groomed on a very regular basis – a lot of hours are spent on grooming them.

However most breeds that go into the show ring, even smooth-coated breeds, also require preparation for the show ring to make sure they are looking their best.

KNOW THE COAT TYPE

There are many opinions out there about the best way to groom different breeds and the best tools for the job. However, one thing that doesn’t change is that the hair grows a certain way and in a certain cycle, depending on the coat type.

Once you learn how your individual dog’s coat grows you can then start to groom your dog to the breed standard and decide what advice to take in order to achieve your grooming goals.

The coat provides protection for the skin. It can be made up of two kinds of hairs, the primary or guard hairs, which are coarse, protective thick and long, and the secondary or down hairs, which are finer, shorter, insulating and form the undercoat.

19 DOG WORLD June 2023
Pixabay

Most breeds have more secondary hairs than primary hairs, but there are exceptions. For example, the primary hair dominates in German Shepherd Dogs, while breeds such as the Boxer and Yorkshire Terrier have no secondary hairs. In the Poodle, the secondary hairs dominate, and the Shi Tzu has a long, dense coat with an undercoat. Hairless breeds such as the Chinese Crested Dog, although seeming bald, have fine secondary hairs on their bodies.

Starting with the breed standard will tell you what coat type your dog has and, therefore, what care it needs.

The silk-coated dogs like the Springer Spaniel or Cocker Spaniel need undercoats. However, by removing the correct amount of undercoat (this is called carding) you can get the silky guard hair to lay flatter, creating a better outline.

The coats of these particular breeds also grow to different lengths depending on which part of the body it grows on. The coat on the body stops growing at a shorter length than the drop coat that

forms the furnishings.

A Siberian Husky needs a dense undercoat, and the guard hair then stands up through the abundance of undercoat. The undercoat has to stay on the dog, and a great amount of work is necessary to keep the undercoat in place without the coat matting.

Some dogs are not supposed to have any secondary hair (undercoat), for example the Boxer. However, sometimes there are secondary hairs around the neck, withers and tail. These are easily removed with brushing and carding.

Sometimes a dog’s secondary coat can interfere with the beautiful guard hair. A good example is a Miniature Schnauzer. With this breed, the outer guard hair does not seem to come through well unless the undercoat is regularly removed.

GROWTH

Different breeds’ coats grow in different cycles, and even dogs of the same breed can seem to have a slightly different hair cycle. Once you know the cycle of growth for your dog, you can use it to your

advantage to get the length of coat required for the show ring.

Hair growth and loss is a continuous cycle, and is split up into three stages, the Anagen, Catagen and Telogen stage.

ANAGEN STAGE

The Anagen stage of the hair cycle is when the hair grows to the specific length determined by genetics. This is the stage that our own hair is in most of the time, as are the coats of those breeds that seem to keep growing and need regular trimming, like the Poodle or the Maltese.

The Anagen stage can be very short in short-haired dogs, up to one year, or longer as in the Maltese Terrier or Shih Tzu.

CATAGEN STAGE

The Catagen stage begins once the hair gets to the specific length determined by genetics and stops growing. It then enters a temporary transition stage just before the coat is ready to fall out or, in the wire breeds, ready to be pulled out.

The hair of Wire breeds gets to its genetic length and the hair becomes loose in the hair follicle. In their natural environment, these dogs would create a natural stripping to gain their new coat. For example a Wire breed out in the bush and scrub in England may create a natural stripping by moving through brambles.

However, for our pet or show dogs, we usually prevent this natural process happening, so we have to hand strip the coats.

TELOGEN STAGE

The Telogen stage is when the hair enters into the final resting, or non-growing phase, and sheds. Some dogs seem to shed all the time – they have a Telogen-predominant cycle, which means their Anagen stage is short, just long enough to get the genetically desired length.

The hair then cycles into Telogen stage and remains there for a longer period of time. It is thought that the Telogen stage may last for years in the Nordic breeds. At some point the Telogen hair falls out and the cycle continues with the Anagen stage.

SHEDDING

It is a myth that certain breeds of dogs do not shed their coats. Those breeds known as ‘non-shedding’ simply have a slower-growing coat. Only a few hairs are shed at a time, giving the impression that the dog does not shed. Nevertheless, decreased shedding can still minimise the effect of the dog on allergy-sufferers.

Shedding is influenced by the amount of sunlight and temperature fluctuation. Outdoor dogs usually shed in Spring and warmer weather, while indoor dogs shed all year long, but in smaller amounts because they are exposed to more constant temperatures and light.

CARING INSIDE AND OUT

When grooming, remember to look after that coat not only with good products, but from the inside as well. Good basic nutrition is necessary to keep the coat and skin healthy and, with so many products and diets on the market for coats and skin, just try them and see what works for your particular dog.

DR ALISTER WEBSTER’S TOP GROOMING TIPS

With spring now upon us, it is important to maintain good grooming habits to care for your dog’s coat and skin. Grooming not only keeps them smelling and looking great; it is also crucial for their health and hygiene.

Regular washing and daily grooming is particularly important for dogs that have sensitive skin or are susceptible to skin problems. Washing your dog helps remove dirt, debris and allergens from the coat and skin, while daily grooming helps to prevent matting of the coat, remove excess hair or winter coats, and increases ventilation to the skin.

International research on Canine Atopic Dermatitis has indicated that dogs with skin allergies often have a moisture and oil imbalance in the top layers of the skin which can lead to irritated, dry and itchy skin.

Long-term use of harsh pet shampoos and some medicated shampoos that are drying to the skin can actually exacerbate this condition, so careful grooming product selection is critical for these pets.

If your pet has skin sensitivities, use a mild shampoo, preferably free from sulphates, to gently clean without further stripping moisture and oils from the coat and skin. Always use a conditioner after washing to help re-moisturise, rebalance and hydrate the skin.

Supplementing the diet with oral omega fatty acid supplements (omega 3 and 6 fatty acids) or using topical omega spot-ons can also help to maintain coat and skin health.

Finally, daily brushing helps keep the coat clean and free of knots, improves ventilation to the skin and gives you quality time with your dog each day.

Vale Mike Cave (17/07/1946 - 06/05/2023)

We will miss you at ringside...

On Saturday 6 May 2023 Mike Cave passed away in the early hours of the morning. Lets celebrate the life of Mike Cave!

Mike was often seen around the show ring at Durack. He loved to go to Durack not just to watch the dogs, but he loved talking with people. He would walk around and there was never a shortage of people who would stop for a chat with him, or you would hear friendly greetings like, “Hi Mike, how are you?”

Mike had a great appreciation and love of all dogs. We would talk for hours about dogs and I hope that some of his knowledge rubbed off on me. He bred Bull Terriers, and owned both Bull Terriers, a Greyhound, and Basenjis. His current Basenji, Merlin, was by his side at home with Mike before he was taken to hospital.

microscope it was discovered he had a rare eye condition that prevented him clearly seeing through it, so he reluctantly gave up on his dream to become a vet. Despite his rare eye condition, Mike had 20/20 vision.

After university he worked for the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for many years. When he wasn’t breeding Bull Terriers, his other passion was rally cars. He owned a rally car, but he didn’t drive them in races. He did participated in many races with his cars. He retired from the ABS in his midfifties and then bought a taxi and drove for himself with another driver.

Mike was full of surprises. After senior high school Mike went to Queensland University and studied to be a vet. However when it came to using a

When Mike wasn’t at the show ring he loved to play cards every week and played a sharp game of 500. Mike was Patron of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club for many years, and also a Patron and VicePresident for Basenji Breed Network Queensland Club. Mike was a Hounds, Terriers, and Working Dogs judge.

Mike was also a Founding Board Director of the

RainShine Foundation Australia (USA and Democratic Republic of Congo). This charity’s mission is working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in community rural development. He became involved in this charity all because of a dog – the Basenji. The Basenji breed originated in northern DR Congo and Southern Sudan and is connected to the Azande people.

Throughout 2022 Mike was championing a RainShine project to build an airstrip in a very remote area of DR Congo to improve access to a number of villages so they could receive medical and emergency equipment.

Another project that Mike was passionate about was to improve the provisioning of medical care to the people living in remote areas of DR Congo.

Some people have indicated they would like to send flowers. Mike wasn’t into flowers, so if you would like to donate to his favourite charities, then you can choose from the ones listed below:

• RainShine Foundation Australia: https://www.rainshinefoundation.org.au/ memorial-mike-cave/

• Basenji Breed Network Australia Rehoming and Rescue Program: https://www.basenjibreednetwork.org.

Mike, Rest in Peace. You will be dearly missed, but will not be forgotten. Condolences to your family and friends.

WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Touchofchow in South Australia has been exhibiting Chow Chows for over 20 years and breeding for 10 years.

We breed to introduce worldwide stunning lines to better the breed here in Australia and we are achieving amazing success in and out of the show ring with both our smooth and rough coats.

Our puppies are given the best start to life being exclusively fed Medium Puppy and our adults are conditioned on Premium Performance Sport. We used to add supplements and vitamins to our dog food until we found Eukanuba™ which already contains biotin to help maintain glorious healthy coats for the show ring, folic acid for our reproductive mothers and glucosamine to provide cartilage nutrition and joint repair. With the addition of Eukanuba’s 3D DentaDefense, our Chows have everything they need and they love the taste.

‘OUR CHOWS HAVE EVERYTHING THEY NEED AND THEY LOVE THE TASTE.’
Enjoy this and other exclusive promotions when you join the Eukanuba™ Professional Club.
