Addressing Feedlot Lameness Norfolk,

On Wednesday, October, 12th, Zinpro and PAC hosted an “Adressing Feedlot Lameness” meeting.

The program included Dr. Dorte Dopfer from the University of Wisconsin, who discussed the anatomy of the foot and normal mechanical function. Dr. Connie Larson from Zinpro highlighted the importance of nutrition when dealing with lameness.

Dr. Tom Noffsinger and Dr. Kip Lukasiewicz demonstrated how stockmanship can help prevent and control feedlot lameness. Dr. Shane Terrell went through the locomotion scoring tool that can be used to identify the degree of lameness in the animal.

After lunch, the attendees broke into three different groups and had an opportunity to see first hand some of the tools discussed during the morning session in action. The rotations included an interactive locomotion scoring activity, a stockmanship and facility design demonstration and a wet lab on hoof trimming.

Thank you to Daniels Manufacturing and Weborg Feeding for providing equipment and cattle for the day. Thank to all the attendees for coming out to the meeting and for all you do to help improve our beef industry.
