A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Welcome to the 32nd edition of amfAR Gala Cannes, and thank you for joining us this evening.

Since our Founding International Chairman Dame Elizabeth Taylor launched the event in 1993, the gala has raised more than $300 million for lifesaving research. Its phenomenal success is a credit to your generosity and compassion, and we are profoundly thankful for your commitment.

Over the past four decades, amfAR’s supporters have helped shape the course of HIV research worldwide. amfAR-funded science has contributed to four of the six major classes of HIV medications, including therapies that prevent mother-to-child transmission of the virus. Our researchers continue to make bold advances that have brought us closer than ever to achieving a cure.

Today, amfAR remains focused on developing an accessible and affordable cure for the more than 40 million people living with HIV. At the same time, we are expanding our investments into areas where HIV science intersects with broader biomedical innovation—strengthening global health and accelerating progress across disciplines.

By supporting strategic research in virology, immunology, and AI-enabled science, we are shortening the pathway to a cure, drawing from the most promising advances in medicine and cycling those insights back to advance HIV cure research with greater speed and impact.

Your support this evening enables amfAR to advance science that saves and extends lives here in France and around the world.

We are honored to have you with us and grateful for your continued partnership. Please enjoy the evening.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

When I helmed my first amfAR Gala Cannes as Chief Development Officer five years ago, I was struck by the outpouring of support not only for amfAR’s mission but also for people living with HIV. It reminded me of when I first learned I was HIV positive, years before I joined the amfAR team—in that time of uncertainty, I looked to the organization for hope. Committed to cutting-edge science, amfAR was laser-focused on finding a cure for HIV and ending AIDS once and for all—that possibility meant the world to me.

Over time, my belief in the importance of our mission has only deepened.

Last year, researchers supported by amfAR made major breakthroughs in targeting the HIV reservoir (the primary barrier to a cure) and controlling the virus long-term without the help of antiretrovirals. And recent amfAR grantees are testing innovative cure strategies that work against all strains of HIV around the world and that can be easily scaled up.

Looking ahead, we are broadening our research investments to include diseases where viruses and the immune system play a critical role, including cancer, neurological conditions, autoimmune disorders, and other viral diseases. Study of these conditions could provide vital insights into curing HIV and potentially find health solutions for millions. amfAR is also supporting new technologies, like AI, to bring us closer to a cure.

Now that I am CEO, and ultimately responsible for safeguarding amfAR’s efforts to advance scientific discovery and improve global health, I still look to the organization for hope. I’m heartened that you do, too.

Thank you for your support at amfAR Gala Cannes!

"The funny thing about Brigitte Bardot is that I am certain I was in love with her. But she couldn’t speak a lick of English. And I didn’t speak French. So our relationship, regrettably, was only between my camera and her beauty.”—Terry O'Neill

Terry O'Neill (1938–2019), one of the twentieth century's most accomplished and collected photographers, shot to fame in the 1960s when he began photographing the emerging faces of the film, fashion, and music scenes that would go on to define the Swinging Sixties. By 1965 he was commissioned by the biggest magazines and newspapers around the world and became famous for capturing his subjects candidly or in unconventional settings.

No other photographer has chronicled the frontline of fame in such detail, capturing celebrities, politicians, presidents and royalty; from Winston Churchill to Nelson Mandela, singers from Frank Sinatra and Elvis to Amy Winehouse, big-screen stars from Audrey Hepburn to Nicole Kidman, modern supermodels from Naomi Campbell to Kate Moss, and almost every James Bond from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. His portraits have been consistently noted for their unposed and intimate nature over six decades.

O’Neill’s work can be found in such museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Recognized for his outstanding contributions to photography, O’Neill was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019, mere months before he passed away in November of that year. He has left behind an extraordinary legacy for collectors eager to buy Terry O’Neill art.

Archival print, acrylic glass, lenticular lens, and Dibond in artist frame with glass

48 5/8 in. x 64 3/8 in. / 123.5 cm. x 163.5 cm.

Yves Scherer (b. 1987, Solothurn, Switzerland) is a visual artist based in New York City. Working in media spanning from figurative sculpture to oil painting and lenticular prints, he creates immersive environments that combine personal narratives with fan fiction and celebrity culture to offer the viewer an often-romantic lens or perspective on the self, relationships, and the everyday.

His work has been shown extensively in galleries and institutions across the world, including the Swiss Institute in New York, Kunsthalle Basel, and the ICA London, and is part of the collection of the Portland Art Museum, Farnsworth Museum, Kunstmuseum Olten, and Kunsthaus Grenchen, among others. He is the recipient of a Förderpreis Bildende Kunst des Kanton Solothurn 2012, a Swiss Art Award in 2015, and was listed on Forbes 30 Under 30 “Art & Design” in the class of 2016.

It never rained, a new lenticular work, features a picture of model Kate Moss against a flower arrangement on the artist’s own windowsill in New York. Made in a sophisticated technical process of his own invention, the artist's lenticular works reflect how popular culture shapes our understanding of life and identity. By merging personal experiences with celebrity imagery, Scherer constructs a world where fantasy and reality blur into a joyful presence.

BRUNO BERNARD— MARILYN MONROE PORTFOLIO

Three Never-Before-Seen Photographs Edition 1 of 2

This triptych of Bruno Bernard’s legendary photographs follows the progression of Norma Jeane Dougherty into Marilyn Monroe. Bernard and the fledgling starlet first met in 1945 when she was crossing Sunset Boulevard, where the photographer had just opened his flagship studio. The two became fast friends thanks to their shared ambition and backgrounds as orphans; Bernard later wrote that the young woman had the canniest instincts of any model he’d ever met.

The image of Norma Jeane in a white bikini was the shot that netted her first contract with Twentieth Century-Fox; it was there that she received her stage name. “Marilyn” was the name of Fox casting head Ben Lyons’ secretary, and “Monroe” was the star’s grandmother’s maiden name. Monroe later stated she was never very fond of the name Marilyn but stuck with it all the same.

In the second photo, Monroe is at the pinnacle of her fame; she is reclining inside the Trans-Lux Theatre in New York City between takes of shooting the “flying skirt” sequence for The Seven-Year Itch.

The final image of Monroe—resplendent in darkness—was taken in Los Angeles during the reshoots for the same movie. Monroe was fresh off announcing her divorce from baseball star Joe DiMaggio just days earlier. Despite the turbulence in her personal life, Monroe shines brighter than ever under Bernard’s lens; this sitting would be the last one in an ongoing collaboration that lasted a decade.

The lot includes a 100th Marilyn Monroe birthday anniversary book signed by Joshua Miller, grandson of Bruno.

Reclining Lobster, 2026

Mirror polished stainless steel, plinth

55.1 in. x 100.8 in. x 66.9 in. / 140 cm. x 256 cm. × 170 cm.

Edition of 3 plus 2 AP (#1/3)

Born in Scotland (1979) and living and working in London, Philip Colbert is often referred to as the “godson of Andy Warhol.” He has created a global following for his cartoon lobster persona and his masterful hyper-Pop history paintings. His work powerfully explores the patterns of contemporary digital culture and its relationship to a deeper art historical dialogue.

After graduating with an MA in Philosophy from St. Andrews University, Colbert’s work has received international acclaim in museums and galleries worldwide for his energetic new approach to painting and Pop theory. Following on from early Pop painters such as Richard Hamilton, Roy Lichtenstein, and James Rosenquist, Colbert’s paintings cross high art themes from Old Master paintings and contemporary art theory with everyday symbols of mass contemporary culture, all narrated through the eyes of Colbert’s cartoon lobster alter ego. He has been championed as a contemporary Pop master by art world figures such as Charles Saatchi and Simon de Pury.

Inspired by Henry Moore’s reclining figure series, the lobster reclines comfortably with its legs outstretched yet evokes the peculiarity of the body in the landscape and the surreal silhouette of form. Made in mirrored stainless steel, the lobster reflects its environment, inviting viewers to see both the sculpture and abstracted reflections of themselves within its surface.

AUDEMARS PIGUET X GEORGE CONDO

A HISTORIC FIRST • BESPOKE TIMEPIECE

Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon—George Condo

Black Version (1 of 5)

Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet / Product Reference 26662BC.OO.D200VE.01

Part of an extremely limited series of five bespoke timepieces, this watch was created on special request from the American artist George Condo within the Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet collection.

Timepiece

The 41 mm 18-carat white gold case is accented with a black bezel and paired with a striking black aventurine dial. The dial is dominated by the iconic “C O N D O” motif, in which each letter forms a miniature work of art executed using a different métier d’art: hand engraving, snow and gemstone setting, enameling, and hand painting. Colors directly reflect the palette of three original paintings created by George Condo in 1984.

Its composition is further enriched by microblasted white gold clouds with polished engravings, a polished pink gold shooting star in the middle of the dial, and special twisted hands in 18-carat pink gold, adding depth and a poetic dimension to the dial.

The watch is powered by the manufacture's selfwinding Calibre 2968 with flying tourbillon, visible through the sapphire caseback and adorned with Haute Horlogerie finishes in keeping with the standards of the Le Brassus Manufacture. Other features include a caseback engraved with the artist’s signature and the individual numbering and a black “Epi” calfskin strap, delivered with two additional interchangeable straps in matching tones.

Presentation Box

Accompanying the watch is a presentation box specially designed and personalized by Audemars Piguet. Crafted from wood featuring a green-tinted Swiss fir veneer, the box stands out for its refined presentation and distinctive visual identity.

The interior is lined with red micro-fiber and includes a dedicated compartment to house an additional strap. It is further enhanced by an interior marking bearing the individual numbering of the watch, reinforcing the unique nature of the ensemble. A printed reproduction of George Condo’s iconic painting The Cloudmaker also distinguishes the interior of the box.

"I was approached by Audemars Piguet to create a unique watch that would celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the painting I created in 1984 called The Cloudmaker. The watch itself was meticulously crafted in such a way that it would become a museum piece. The watch is one of the most exquisite works of art that exists on the planet, and not because it’s of my painting, but because of the precision in the craftsmanship, adding jewels to the letters of my name just as I did in the painting, clouds in white gold with planets, and turquoise showing each side of the globe. I’m very proud of the collaboration that was created in Le Brassus and very happy that I was able to immortalize a painting into an object."

ANDY WARHOL

Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn),1967

Portfolio of ten screenprints on paper

Each sheet measures: 36 in. x 36 in. / 91.44 cm. x 91.44 cm.

Framed dimensions: 8 1/8 in. x 38 1/8 in. x 1 7/8 in. / 20.64 cm. x 96.84 cm. x 4.76 cm. each

129/250 (signed in pencil and numbered with a rubber stamp on verso)

In 1967, Andy Warhol published the first portfolio of his career—a set of ten color screenprints of American sex symbol and film star Marilyn Monroe. The variable color images are based on an appropriated publicity still from Monroe’s 1953 film Niagara, the same cropped photograph Warhol referenced for his many Marilyn paintings in the 1960s. Warhol began producing his iconic Marilyn works shortly after her death in 1962, expressing his fixation on stardom, tragedy, affluence, and popular culture. This portfolio is said to have made an icon out of an icon.

Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe series challenges the traditional fine art standards of his AbEx predecessors by elevating pop culture symbols into the realm of fine art, blurring the line between the two. The works revitalized the practice of portraiture in the mid-20th century. Warhol’s obsession with mechanical reproduction and consumer culture led him to use the commercial process of screenprinting. Each Marilyn was printed using five different screens to generate ten identical photographic images with shifting colors and offregister effects. The repetitive imagery in Warhol’s Marilyn series references America’s mass production and commercialization of celebrity personas.

This set was the first to be published through Warhol’s New York based print-publishing business, Factory Additions. Printer: Aetna Silkscreen Products, Inc., New York.

HAYAL POZANTI

An Offer for Lovers, 2026

Oil stick on linen 80 in. x 60 in. x 2 in. / 203.2 cm. x 152.4 cm. x 5.08 cm.

A painter whose sweeping landscapes, made with fingers rather than brushes, are so alive that they have a pulse.

Hayal Pozanti makes abstract paintings by drawing with brightly colored oil sticks that she blends into the canvas with her fingers. From her home in rural Vermont, the artist sketches landscapes outdoors, capturing lifelike movement and natural growth. Concerned about the natural world, Pozanti calls her paintings “love letters” to the Earth. Pozanti seeks a trancelike connection between body and mind, shaping her biomorphic forms that are rooted in an original symbolic language into sweeping visions marked by the texture of touch.
