Summer is officially here, and the Club continues to stay busy with activity. The Greens Project is in full swing and remains on pace for a September opening. This month, we will begin sprigging the new greens as they enter the grow-in process. It is an exciting time as we continue making significant improvements for the long-term success of the Club.

The new golf carts have been a huge hit, and we appreciate everyone ’ s help in taking care of the new fleet The Member Course halfway house is also getting a facelift this summer, and that project is well underway.

We appreciate your continued feedback and want to thank you for being a valued Member!

The Perfect Time for Referrals

Our Initiation Fees have recently increased, and they are scheduled to increase again to coincide with the completion of these renovation projects -- around Labor Day. Because of this, there has never been a better time to invite someone to join the GCOH Family. We are building toward an incredibly bright future, and being surrounded by your friends, family, and business colleagues makes the Club experience even better.

If you know someone who would make a wonderful addition to the Club, we would love the opportunity to extend an invitation on your behalf before the next increase in joining fees

As always, we deeply appreciate your continued support, patience, and enthusiasm as we invest in the future of your Club!

Warm regards,

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

The greens renovation continues to progress nicely, and we expect to wrap up work by the end of this month. If all goes according to plan, the target reopening is set for September. It has been exciting to work alongside Kyle and the team at Tripp Davis and Associates and watch the shaping process bring subtle movement and new pin locations to life.

In addition to the greens, all surrounding areas are being gently contoured to improve surface drainage and enhance overall playability. The Member range tee expansion is also nearing completion and will add more than a half-acre of teeing space.

June also marks the first of our two major annual cultural practices on the greens. This year, we will once again use a larger core tine in June followed by a smaller tine application in August. These practices are essential for removing accumulated organic material and ensuring we continue to provide outstanding playing surfaces throughout the year.

I’ll see you on the course

Calories Aren't Equal

Often we are seeking ways to improve our eating to be more healthful. Then we think of counting calories and analyze the nutrition label on foods. There are some myths about calorie counting and it can only work when you are comparing like foods.

Whole Food vs Highly Processed Food

A calorie from a whole food is not the same as one coming from highly processed food Whole foods demand more energy to digest via the thermic effect of food (TEF), the calories burned breaking down meals. Eating whole food requires you to chew more extensively and demands your body break down fiber, and other complex structures within the food. Your gut also becomes much more active by producing various digestive compounds to process the food and absorb nutrients. Highly processed foods on the other hand, do not require this and are easily digested, but often times have much less nutrient density.

Studies show whole food meals burn nearly double the energy (140 vs 75 calories for an 800-calorie serving) compared to processed ones

If your goal is to improve your body composition, prioritizing highly processed foods over whole foods puts your in a "metabolic disadvantage". Think of it like this: eating whole foods burns more to process due to TEF, and highly processed foods do not have that benefit. Beyond TEF, whole foods shine nutritionally: high fiber promotes satiety, stabilizes blood sugar, and feeds gut bacteria for better immunity and mood. They pack vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants absent in stripped-down processed versions, slashing risks of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease

Processed foods, refined for shelf life, spike hunger with low fiber and added sugars/fats, leading to overeating Food quality should always be your first move when making a shift in your diet
