RESULTS BEYOND ARCHITECTURE

RESULTS BEYOND ARCHITECTURE
At Little, we’re constantly exploring what the future holds for public libraries. We’re passionate about how thoughtful, innovative design can help libraries stay relevant and even more impactful. In a world where content is available at our fingertips, learning can happen anytime and anywhere, and knowledge is increasingly digital and multimedia-driven, the library has the opportunity to become something even greater - a place that fuels curiosity, connection, and creativity for everyone.
Lillington, NC
29,000 sf
The Harnett County Library is nearly half of the 56,000 sf Resource Center & Library building that brings people and services together. By uniting the public library, training center, and key administrative departments under one roof, the county has created a more connected and efficient government. The expanded library — nearly double its previous size — offers dedicated spaces for children’s and adult programs, maker areas, and modern amenities that foster learning and community. A flexible training center with event space, a café, and kitchen supports countywide gatherings, while departments like Veterans Affairs, Parks & Rec, and HR now collaborate more easily to better serve the citizens of Harnett County.
Raleigh, NC
22,000 sf
Inspired by the steep ridges, rolling hills, and flowing stream that define its site, the Northeast Regional Library is a dynamic, nature-driven space that serves as a vital community anchor for Wake County. Little’s design weaves the building into the landscape, with two wings—one for adults, one for children—linked by a skylit passage that echoes the meandering stream below. Expansive reading areas open to serene views and soft northern light, while flexible community rooms turn the library into a welcoming hub for gathering and learning. Rooted in sustainability, the library incorporates eco-conscious materials, solar strategies, and high-performance systems to meet LEED certification goals—merging environmental stewardship with civic pride.
Morrisville, NC 9,000sf
As the heart of Morrisville’s new Town Center, the branch library is designed as an open, light-filled “great room” that invites connection, discovery, and adaptability. Bathed in soft, diffused light from clerestory windows and framed by service wings, the soaring central space offers flexible zones for adults, youth, and children—each defined by the natural rhythm of the stacks. A quiet, storybook corner with a picture window looks out onto the future Town Center green, while offices are thoughtfully placed for visibility and accessibility. With its openness and future-ready design, the library stands as a welcoming beacon for the growing Morrisville community.
Waxhaw, NC
25,000 sf
Serving an under-resourced area between Waxhaw and Weddington, the Southwest Regional Library is designed to grow with its community. The first phase delivers 25,000 square feet of light-filled space, including dedicated reading areas, a maker lab, flexible meeting rooms, and a storytime nook—all organized along a central spine that opens to a serene, wooded courtyard. Future expansion will bring the library to 35,000 square feet, adding a community wing and outdoor garden space shaped by movable, low-cost landscaping. With infrastructure built to support its full vision from day one, the library is a welcoming, future-ready resource for the region.
San Diego, CA
6,745 sf
With 60% population growth over the past 40 years, the Skyline-Paradise Hills community is one of San Diego’s most diverse—and the new Skyline Hills Branch Library rises to meet it as a civic gateway and cultural landmark. Rooted in the design mission DREAM, HOPE, INSPIRE, the library fosters lifelong learning and celebrates the community’s rich languages, diversity, and shared love of reading. Every element of the design reflects a forward-looking vision: a 21st-century library that connects people to knowledge, and to each other.
Brevard, NC
35,000 sf
The Transylvania County Library was designed to honor the area’s rich heritage and natural beauty—a vision passionately championed by the local design committee. Embracing the county’s “land of waterfalls” identity, Little crafted an undulating roof that echoes the flow of nearby falls, while stone elements and site-responsive features ground the building in its historic context. A two-story layout separates public and private functions, enhancing usability, and the addition of an after-hours community room, arboretum, and planned amphitheater reinforces the library’s role as a vibrant cultural and civic hub.
Mooresville, NC
13,000 sf
Little is helping to revitalize the Mooresville Public Library, a cherished civic space in the heart of downtown. This 13,000-square-foot renovation will transform the library’s main floor into a more open, welcoming, and flexible environment that reflects the evolving needs of its community.
From updated study rooms and restrooms to a redesigned reception area, lighting, and ceilings, the project is more than a refresh - it’s a rethinking. With architectural and engineering expertise across every discipline, we’re creating a place where people of all ages can gather, learn, and connect for years to come.

Master Plan Deliverable
Charlotte, NC
20 Branch Libraries
The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County is one of America’s leading urban public libraries, serving a community of over one million citizens through 20 branches and online services. The Library required a facilities master plan to ensure that future capital investments made throughout the county are maximized and targeted to address their existing users and under-served areas of the community for the next 10 to 15 years. Little was tasked with developing a Plan that provides recommendations for existing facilities, including renovations and refreshes, expansions, relocation, and maintenance related changes, as well as new facilities throughout the County to tackle access and transportation issues.
