This supplement to Radio World includes Product Previews from industry suppliers, providing an early look at what technologies they will introduce or highlight in Las Vegas.

A pull-out map of the Radio/Audio area of the Las Vegas Convention Center is also included at the center of this supplement. Many of the radio/audio exhibits will be found in the North Hall, but you’ll find others throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center. Comrex to Showcase ACCESS NX and Opal, and Unveil Several Surprise Products At NAB 2018, Comrex will be showcasing ACCESS NX and Opal.

Perfect for coordinating call-ins with guests who have no technical experience, Opal provides near-studio quality audio with consumer grade equipment. Like a traditional audio codec, Opal transmits and receives audio. However, Opal wakes up the high-fidelity audio coding engine built into modern web browsers, so remote guests can connect using a browser on a computer or cellphone. Guests connect instantly by clicking a link.

Opal makes it possible to do long interview segments in HD voice quality, without requiring guests to install apps or fiddle with settings. Once installed, Opal serves a web page that allows a user to click a button and transmit from their computer or phone using the Opus encoder, for excellent fidelity and low delay.

Opal can support two discrete connections at once. Opal occupies 1/2U of rack space, and two can fit side-by-side in a 19” rack shelf. Connections to Opal can be made from Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge, and Safari.

Comrex will be debuting EarShot IFB, a new product that marries VoIP technology with IFBs. EarShot IFB supplies 4 feeds (or 2 IFB feeds), and enables up to 30 users to call in and hear audio simultaneously.

The latest addition to the ACCESS codec line, ACCESS NX has been designed from the ground up to accommodate the substantial technological advances in IP audio transmission. The basic Cortex 360 comes equipped with 8 differential analog inputs for sensors, 16 status inputs with independent-grounds, 8 form-C relay outputs and 128 SNMP commands that let you monitor and control virtually anything at your site. Expansion is easy with the unit’s Modbus interface and SNMP add-ons to 1024 commands. A built-in 4-port USB Hub and a 4-port Network switch reduce the need for auxiliary equipment.

As with all Davicom products, the unit is designed to operate in high-level electric fields and to resist normally crippling electrostatic discharges.

SAM Watches Over Your Station!

The Systems Alert Monitor is a versatile “watchdog” that monitors the equipment and systems of a typical broadcast facility. SAM provides an instant visual, audible, and email indication if anything goes wrong or needs attention by station personnel.

SAM monitors up to 15 status inputs from station equipment. When a fault is detected, SAM generates an “Alert” text messages that is displayed on a video monitor. SAM’s Alert messages could indicate equipment failure or other important conditions, for example OFF AIR, NO AUDIO, EAS ALERT, HIGH SWR, etc.

SAM’s video alert messages can be viewed on any HDMI monitor.

SAM’s messages can also be using any PC that’s connected to the station’s LAN. SAM will be on display at the BGS Booth #C2022. $695.
